Merry Monk - Fillet of Hake best seafood I have ever had. That is saying a lot being that I lived in Florida for 4 and a half years!

The serving sizes are more than enough for the price you are paying! I would venture to say that this is the best restaurant I have ever eaten at in the country of England, and I do not forecast that decision changing! Weather you want a beautiful dinner for two, breakfast in the morning with a great cup of coffee or tea, or you want to bring a massive party in for catering, the Merry Monk is sure to make you leave feeling full, happy, and satisfied. If you are like myself you will leave thinking and planning about your next visit and how fast you hope it happens!

We have been there several times now and have never been anything but impressed and satisfied when we came away. Food, staff, atmosphere is all terrific as you would expect. We are going to have our after wedding celebration here in June this year as we liked it so much. Adrian the chef / owner is a great down to earth guy who will do anything for you so you get exactly what you expect from the day. As for kids meals, we did ask, and yes it's the usual chicken goujons or fish fingers, but these are made with chicken breast and fillets of cod, not reconstituted cr*p. The food here is without doubt about quality, that is not to say that presentation and portion size has been compromised in any way.

It's not a large space, but does provide easily accessible parking. Diners can choose to eat inside, surrounded by pub-classy decor. A little warm to be indoors, then there is a lovely garden just out the door complete with a river view, a play area for children and a boardwalk along the River Lark. Happen to be boating down the river? Dock here and pop into the pub for a pint! Fancy a romantic evening? An evening, under the stars, relaxing by the beautiful willow in the garden may be just what you need. Judes Ferry touches my romantic side for certain. Of course, the food is very good too. My first time there, I had the Beer Battered Cod Fillet with hand cut chunky chips & minted mushy peas. I'm not a huge fish lover, but this was very good. I've also had the Chicken and Smoked Bacon Stroganoff with saffron scented rice. This was very yummy and surprisingly light. I finished the evening with a mocha and sweet chocolate mints. Service is always friendly which just tops off an already nice experience.

The owners are very kind and treat you like you are part of the family. Always a good vibe, and always feel very welcome. What I love most about their menu is that they serve fresh game. I love their game soup. Anything they serve that is game deserves an A+. I crave their game meals on a daily basis. I wanted to go here for Valentines Day but I could not get my husband to drive out of Newmarket and resorted to another pub which I wasn't happy with, so he does owe me a night at the New Inn. They always have new specials, it is always wise to check out their specials on the black board. I always have their specials whatever they are. They never disappoint. I have had their Sunday carvery and it is delicious. I never over spend, I always get a lot for my money, I am always happy and my tummy is full and my taste buds are always satisfied. They have a pretty good selection of ales, beers and ciders. Their menu is pretty large, I will take pictures of it and post it soon. There is lots to eat if you are a vegetarian and lots to eat if you are not! I need to try their exotic meats on a slab, they get exotic meat flown in from Scotland.

The bar area is a bit small, but there are plenty (about 10) of different beers on tap. I ordered a Greene King IPA and found it very tasty; not overtly hoppy tasting. There are many smaller dining rooms that make the patron feel cramped for space, so we elected to sit in the covered porch area for dinner. I ordered the fish and chips and thought it average. Overall, the service was good, the meal was hot, and the beer cold. Nothing fancy, though.
