Had to update! Still worth every penny for great results! Putting in the work, with a customized plan just for you, really makes the difference. Working out at my own pace, clean facility, and welcoming trainers that are there to push you to achieve your goals, RISE is it! Give them a month, and you will see a change.

    300 down, 3000 to go
    Jarrett C.

I've been a Rise Member for years, after belonging to typical chain gyms and numerous short stints with expensive personal trainers. I needed a push, and I was able to put aside my inherent paralyzing fear of fitness classes to try Rise. At the beginning of my Rise journey, I was emotional about my physical size, 34% body fat, self-conscious of my every movement, and terrified of lifting more than 20lbs. I couldn't get off the couch without making an "unnhhhhh" sound, and I was under 40. I realized that if I didn't fix that quickly, I wouldn't enjoy living in this body as I rapidly proceeded into middle-age. As of the time of this review, I've completed 324 semi-private personal training sessions. I've improved my functional strength tremendously, and while the first year was admittedly difficult, my sessions at the gym became so routine that it now feels weird to miss one. I've now mastered single-leg squats, can bench-press more weight than I ever thought I could, and improved my overall health. I now get off the couch in total silence. Despite being a total introvert, I've built genuine friendships with other members, as well as the coaches. This is not a gym where you need to feel shy, or embarrassed, or intimidated. The only members you'll encounter at Rise are there to improve themselves, and the coaches are there to help you reach the potential they know exists within you. The space has a sexy vibe to it, with black mirrors above the floor and the yellow athletic turf, without being intimidating. The InBody scale measures your overall body composition to track your actual muscle growth and fat loss. The coaches actually care about your progress as much as you do. Members range in age from high-school-aged to 80+ (seriously!). Workouts are scaled for every individuals' goals and abilities. The scheduling policy is reasonable and fair. Parking is abundant.

I've been training with Van and Wyatt for a while now, and the results have been incredible. Each session is tailored to my goals, and they always know how to challenge me while keeping things fun and motivating. Their knowledge of proper form, nutrition, and recovery has completely changed the way I approach fitness.

There's probably one or two people working this location at a time there's a fat slob who only gives attention to girls who works the front desk and has the worst attitude when addressing the issues in this roach infested place! Bathrooms are never clean, roaches everywhere and the smell of must is in every corner. Basketball courts should be their garage since there hasn't been any update or work done in this place. I've reported them to the city many times due to it being a hazard and actually growing mold in this place. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy only if I'm sending them to their deaths! Please avoid this place like the plague. Also good luck trying to cancel your membership the best i could do is place a stop block to payment since they give you the run around and are money hungry.

My guess is they don't pay people enough and have constant turnover which supports the terrible rapport I've had with any management regarding cleanliness and payment. I gave this gym the benefit of the doubt but they're more financially twisted than any other gym I've been to or worked with. The setting is dark, which is their way of hiding things, broken equipment, pests, uncleanliness. The music is so loud you'll go deaf. Save your time and breathe with these people. Lisette is an awful manager. Talks down to you, condescending, rude. She'll respond on here like things are fine or she's working on it and then ghost you like a 14 year old. Bottom line: unclean and completely unprofessional. It'll sneak up and bite you in the butt. Don't waste your time.

Staff enforces mask wearing and wipes are available to wipe down your equipment. AND PEOPLE ACTUALLY DO IT!!? What?! Everyone re-racks the weights and plates properly, and there are plenty of squat racks and benches. They have a track to run on as well as a HIIT area on the upper floors. There is also an area to do abs and stretching. They offer private pilates, Zumba, and yoga classes. Not to mention that they have an incredible rock climbing wall. This place is luxurious and spacious, and I'm not mad about probably ~50% of my tuition going to its maintenance and upkeep. Only thing that bothers me about the SRC is that they have such limited hours around the holidays. For example, this past weekend following Thanksgiving, they were only open from 10-2 pm. They are also closed from Dec 25- Jan 1, which I guess is understandable. But then again they are closed the week before the spring semester starts. It makes me feel like if I wanted to work out during those times, I need to purchase a separate gym membership somewhere else (which I do not want to do). Also, keep in mind that if you want to rock climb, you have to come at certain times as well, when the rock climbing staff are there. They really need to bring back the guest passes! Especially if that guest was an alumnus. And if they are going to charge $180 a semester for alumni gym membership, maybe make it worth it by not randomly closing down a couple weeks before the semester starts.

For example, the leg extension, there is only one good one in this gym and everyone other week it is broken and it takes at least a week for gym employees to address it. Today they closed off 7 machines off to do "maintenance" and with that, it leaves hardly any other machines left get a good workout with. This place loves to do this type of stuff and nothing ever gets better. A while ago they took HALF of the treadmills out and posted a small sign saying new ones will be coming in a month. Well, that month turned into 4 months. The "new" treadmills they got, half of them dont even work properly. With all this nonsense, they still have the audacity to charge a "gym enhancement fee" to each and every account (even the buddy passes). Also, if it rains, dont bother going for the day. They have more leaks in there roof that I cant even keep track of, with some so severe that they end up having to close off whole rooms and all of the equipment because it literally ends up flooded. This gym is just always an inconvenience and staff and management dont care. Im canceling my 3 memberships and moving on to somewhere else.

As you're stood at the front desk signing up, you'll get to listen to the front desk agent calling her coworkers "b*tch n*gga" at least 5 times in the 5 minutes you're stood there. Once per minute is almost impressive. You'll also get to listen to her yell at guests as they leave, then mock them once they're gone. Then, if you were expecting the tour so you know where things are (as is advertised), that's not happening either. As you enter the gym proper, you'll notice a giant sign advertising the lunk alarm, and defines what they consider a "lunk". For a "judgement free zone", it's incredibly judgmental (especially if you arrived in a tank top, holding a water bottle). You'll also quickly learn that breathing too loud or setting down the weights too hard sets off a loud alarm throughout the gym in order to shame you. Nothing says "judgement free zone" like public shaming! Now my favorite part. There's no bench press. No squat rack. No kettle bells. No scales. An incredibly small free weight area. If you want any sort of comprehensive workout, you're using machines only. That's all if you can bear the stench.
