I've worked out in hard core sweat boxes to the fanciest of gyms. Lots of glitter on this definite…read moreNO.
WALKING-IN: I signed up for a day pass. Immediately, I received an email from Crunch and a text. A little much, but okayyy. I went in and stood at the desk for about 2 minutes while one guy behind the desk was on his phone and the girl checking people in was...on her phone. The guy looked up eventually. I showed him the pass. He said he's Eric and had just written to me. Screwy first move, he not only asked for my ID, but insisted on keeping it in their little plastic box (in reach of anyone who walks in-since the employees are focused on their phones) so that I'd have to ask for it back before I left. This 80's-era sales stuff is SO outdated in 2026. He asked if I would like a quick tour. It was nice that he gave me the option. I'd never been to a Crunch and figured a quick overview would help. It's a very pretty and seemingly clean open space.
WORKOUT ISSUES: I first went to the flat benches. NO clamps (collars) anywhere to be found with all of their benches. SO, SAFETY is not a priority? Is this like a college dorm where I need to rent out equipment then have to bring it back!? I went to the front desk. Eric was gave me clamps. I started my workout. Next, I realize there's ONE tiny freaking clock in this entire huge gym on the wall - visible only in one area. NO timers around. SO, I have to pull out phone while I'm working out to time my workout!?
Moving on, this gym has tons of fancy stuff everywhere-all kinds of machines nobody was using that are more cumbersome than old school stuff, but getting to a peck-deck was nearly impossible. Eric told me this was a slow day (so did the girl at the desk when I was leaving). SO, on a slow day, getting to an old-school piece of equipment is a major pain. There are a bunch of others waiting nearby for it too. There were 2 machines for it, but 2 DIFFERENT kinds of machines. SAME ISSUE with the lateral raise...ONE machine.
BATHROOM/WATER FOUNTAIN ISSUES: 2 water fountains, but when is on, there's no pressure in the other. The bathroom - counter was soaked. It just was't being cleaned properly.
AFTER THE WORKOUT: The girl at the desk questioned me on why I wasn't signing up today complete with a snarky tone and smirk. (LESS #NoJudgement tagline, MORE #Judgment from the kid at the desk.) I explained that I didn't want to be locked in yet. She gave me 2 one-day passes and a card. I said thank you and left.
Next morning, I get another message from Eric saying that he saw that I had put in a request for a pass and was looking forward to meeting me. SERIOUSLY!? THAT many people with the same exact name trying out the gym in a 24 hour period.
FINAL STRAW: I went back in to give the gym another try on a different day to see if maybe it would be less busy. SAME snarky girl doesn't even acknowledge me when I scanned one of the 1-day passes she gave me. Instead of just walking on it, I thought the right thing to do would be give her the pass since I was using it. Clearly being honest is a BAD thing here! She said "oh, it's your first time in?" (UHHH, we just spoke 2 days ago.) I explained that I was just trying it out with the pass she gave me. She proceeds to tell me with the same annoying smirk that their policy is for only one free day. I asked why she gave me 2-day passes on the way out. She told me those were to give to my friends! I asked how much a day pass would be since I was there. $15. I said "forget it" and walked out. Instead of apologizing for the confusion (HER FAILURE) and just letting me workout, just watched a potential customer walk out aggravated.
So, CRUNCH, THIS is the real experience from a real potential customer walking in for the first time to try your gym.
BOTTOM LINE. Clamps, timers/clocks, lateral raises, and peck decks are issues. Bathrooms are a mess. Water fountains are too few and can't be used at the same time. Judgement and 'tude at the front desk. Oblivious to who they've talked to. At least the main floor is pretty and there's lots of stuff.
As for the remaining day pass, I'm sure there's someone around the area that would like to have shelter for a day and hot shower.
