I grew up in Dallas and currently live in a suburb of Dallas. So I'm living in a metroplex of 6.8 million people. I own a small place in Taos now, and for sure it is a radical change, but one I welcome. So a bit of history for those who came from elsewhere. I recall when most hardware and lumber operations closed at noon on Saturday, and virtually everything was closed on Sunday (Texas Blue Law). Most retail stores closed at 5 or 6 pm weekdays, except might stay open to 9 pm on Thursdays. This was customary. I lived in a small town of less than 1,500 people in North Texas 40 years ago. They "rolled up the streets" around noon on Saturday back then, and most businesses still do. So I have seen both sides of this issue. For the working man who is into DIY, it makes it difficult to work on a project over the weekend. When I get started on a project Saturday morning, I can't say how many times I realized I needed something else to finish it, but it was after everything closed, so I was stuck until Monday morning. Not good if it is the only toilet in the house. But I also understand how valuable it is to owners and employees to have time off themselves, and how we should all take a breath and relax. In that small town in North Texas, if my ox ended up in the ditch, I could call the owner of the hardware store or the lumber yard and they would meet me at the store and get me what I needed. Taos is too big to operate like that, and times have changed, as have people. Moral of the story, there are two sides to this issue. The business owner takes a hit when you go to WalMart, Espanola or Santa Fe to shop when his/her store is closed. They have judged it is worth the loss for whatever reason- custom, rest, whatever. I won't hold it against them and will try to support a family business whenever I can.

We can also supply a dunnage door if you wish to remove the finished door until construction is complete. This protects the finished door from damage. We also fabricate heavy duty screen and screen/storm doors that match the design, texture, and finish of your entry door. All the glass used in our doors is saftey glass, not tempered glass. We find the saftey glass is much more difficult to break and does not make a mess of small pieces if ever it does break. We also can do stained or leaded glass inside the thermal saftey glass. Nightmare experience and nightmare people. Went in to buy a…read morefew house filters, and you would not know that there was a global pandemic ravaging this little town. And, it's not just the cavalier tourists that are bringing it..... it's dangerous and reckless locals and you will find them here. There were two people behind the counter, one being office manager Elizabeth Sisneron. And on the other side of the counter were two customers. It was an enclosed room with little ventilation. There were no masks in sight, not even around the necks of anyone. They were literally less than a foot from each others face, talking and laughing. I stayed outside until the customers left. When i entered, the male walked from behind the desk and up to my face. I told them that i felt unsafe and to please respect the mandatory indoor mask requirement. She said no. I reminded her that it is not a mere suggestion, but the law both in New Mexico and in Taos. She told me that she was vaccinated and was safe. I asked her if she has seen the vaccination cards of the two that just left, or the man standing too close to me. I asked her if she knew that she could still carry it and pass it to others. I asked her if she dealt with dozens of unmasked people every day, and conversed with them closely, how could she be positive that she wasn't being reckless and could seriously hurt or even kill someone. She didn't have an answer to any of these questions, but insisted that she wasn't going to wear a mask, even when she dealt with members of the public. This place is a public menace and a danger to the entire community, and i will hound the public health officials every single day to stop this deadly and illegal behavior. The first two infractions and it will come out of their wallet, third time and they'll be shut down. Maybe that's what it will take. They have no one to blame but themselves..... in the meantime, avoid these selfish people. Dahl and Bond both take the mandate seriously. so you won't be risking your life just to buy a plumbing part.
