Be very careful if you want to choose this small practice, I can no longer recommend them despite…read moreloving my vet when allowed access to her. I thought it was great to have an office that was close to my home, especially in case I had a sick pet that I wanted to get to the vet quickly or without a long car ride. Unfortunately I discovered that they aren't equipped to handle this and refer out to emergency centers much farther away, even when you call as soon as they open. I was informed that because they are a small practice I should have known to have a secondary vet lined up for when my pet gets sick, despite never being informed of this at any point in the past. This is not something I have ever experienced at any other veterinary clinic and don't know why I was expected to have this understanding. After I had my dog seen elsewhere and got her diagnosis (infection caused by E. Coli) I tried to get ahold of my vet again to get instructions on an upcoming procedure but never received the return call I was promised by office staff. I had to cancel the procedure that had been scheduled months in advance because I didn't know if it was safe while my pet was being treated by the other hospital for the infection. I attempted to address the situation again after the procedure was canceled because I still hadn't received a return call and was told I didn't warrant a call from the actual vet because my dog urinating blood wasn't that serious and my dog was already seen elsewhere (at their suggestion). I was also informed I shouldn't have been told I would get a return call from my request to begin with because they do not have enough staff to guarantee responsiveness. I don't think wanting to ask the actual medical professional a medical question is such a wild expectation from a pet owner, especially when they didn't see them for a current illness and have them scheduled for a procedure requiring anesthesia a few days later. All I wanted was reassurance that it was safe to go ahead with the appointment or confirmation that I needed to wait and reschedule after the infection cleared, but I was denied the opportunity. Update: I received my pet's records and discovered that the front office staff that took notes from my calls (TW) was not the person I spoke to and the notes they left were judgmental and inaccurate. They stated my call requesting to speak to my vet about an upcoming procedure was only a call to say I took my pet elsewhere. There was no note indicating what I truly asked for. They also labeled me "hysterical" on all of my pets files for being tearful and scared on the phone when my pet's urine turned to pure blood. It's clear I wasn't listened to, my concerns weren't taken seriously and I was dismissed for being a concerned pet owner. The office staff is why you can't rely on the practice.

I had to drive over 100 miles to Village days after I had surgery because no veterinary clinic in the Carbondale and Marion Illinois area had enough empathy to see her for days, and she would have died without the loving care of Village, who took her in immediately. After I took her in, I looked up Dr. Kelly Jones' background and could not be more impressed. If you have a reptile, or any other animal, this is the only animal clinic that I would take it to because they actually care about animals. I cannot say that for any other animal clinic in Southern Illinois.

They called me back right when they opened and said they could see my urgently sick turtle in 30 minutes. I rushed there from O'Fallon, IL and was seen immediately. They were SO kind and they were great with my turtle. The vet and the vet techs truly went above and beyond for me. I am so grateful. I'm hoping my turtle gets better so I don't have to go back for a while, but I know if he needs to go that he is in the best hands. The prices were reasonable (even for X-rays and medications), no wait time, and they were more than willing to see my turtle. 10/10 cannot recommend them enough. I am so grateful for this exotic animal hospital. Edit: I've been twice in the past few weeks and they are WONDERFUL. I am so confused by the earlier review because I have never even had an opportunity to sit in the lobby because they immediately take me back to a room. They are all so kind and knowledgeable. Genuinely seems like an incredible place to work.

I had two dogs getting vaccines and blood work. They opted to add a urine/fecal sample charge when I did not request this. They proceeded to say I would have to gather the samples myself. Fine, I can do that. The vet suggested multiple surgeries on my female black lab that was 13 years old. A tooth removal, cyst removal, and another procedure that I can't recall, totaling $1700. She did the same thing for my other dog, totaling $1500 which included a teeth cleaning and spay. When I left, they gave me the total for my two dogs wellness appointment that didn't last longer than 45 minutes, and it was almost $800. INSANE. I took my black lab to Ark Animal Hospital a few months later and showed her the printed sheet of suggestions the vet provided and she was horrified. She said it was borderline cruel to suggest those surgeries for a senior dog who is otherwise in good health. I will never return to this location and suggest everyone to get a second opinion before getting any surgeries from this location. Also, they are INCREDIBLY overpriced.

Disorganized, dishonest about pricing, & nearly cost me my international flight!…read more I used Rosewood Pet Hospital and Dr. Rachel McPheters, DVM to handle my dog's paperwork for an international move to Thailand. I paid upfront $320 as an all-inclusive fee covering vaccinations, the USDA health certificate, and all associated paperwork. I confirmed this multiple times. What followed was months of disorganization that nearly derailed my entire trip. It took four attempts over three weeks to produce a usable vaccination letter. I provided the clinic with the full requirements from the Thai Department of Livestock Development upfront. Despite that, the first document was a patient chart printout with no letterhead, no signature, no microchip number -- and the second was sent as a smudged photo, not a proper scanned document [see attached]. Each subsequent version still had missing information. They had to revise the letter twice on the same day because they kept making mistakes. These delays compressed my Thai government approval window to just a few weeks before departure. The health exam was poorly coordinated. We scheduled the USDA exam about eight days before my flight -- tight, since the certificate is only valid for 10 days. On exam day, the staff member handling my case wasn't there. I waited 45 minutes for her to arrive. The USDA application still wasn't submitted until 3:00 PM the next day. Then came the surprise charges. After paying $320 for what was represented as all-inclusive, I was told at the final stage I owed an additional $130 for USDA processing and expedited shipping. They claimed there was "no way to know" these fees until submission -- these are standard, published fees. After 30 minutes of pushback, they waived half the processing fee but held firm on shipping. Then they selected UPS 2nd-day air instead of Next-day air, eliminating any reliable on-time delivery. I even tried promoting the shipping to Next-day air, but Rosewood was unreachable, and only they could promote the shipping label since they ordered it. The result was a near-disaster. Because my dog's transport required no more than two flight legs, I had to rent a car and drive from central Illinois to Chicago to catch my flight. The USDA certificate arrived just minutes before I had to leave -- I had to coordinate directly with UPS to intercept the delivery because the timeline was that razor-thin. I had to drive to UPS package hubs directly for "package interception" which is not a service they offer! The stress made me physically ill the morning of departure with a sore throat and cough that followed me through the entire trip to Thailand. None of this should have been my problem to solve. For context, the Thai Department of Livestock Development -- a foreign government agency -- was easier and more responsive to work with than this clinic. I would not trust Rosewood Pet Hospital with any time-sensitive or international paperwork. The experience was disorganized from start to finish, the pricing was misrepresented, and there was zero accountability of wrongdoing from these "professionals."
