We passed this unassuming restaurant many times. It wasn't until last week that a friend of ours said you have to try it! The ladies are very warm and friendly and explained the daily specials to us. Dave got the ox tail stew that was served with plantains and rice and beans. I got the chicken cutlet with tomato., ham and cheese, rice and beans and a Tamale. I couldn't believe my eyes-the portion was enormous and covered with delicious melted Swiss cheese. I brought half of it home! Dave's was served in a little covered pot and there were large pieces of meat and bone! He had Cuban coffee and I had an American. The server was so sweet and asked us if we wanted more to go! We absolutely love Rincon! I've been coming here for over 20 years, when we moved here from Key West when I was a child, it brought back a lot of memories of home and the amazing Cuban food. Now my husband, son and I love eating here and also ordering delivery. They always package everything nicely and everything stays nice and hot during delivery. Some of our favorites are their Cuban sandwiches, Ropa Vieja, Picadillo, Arroz Con Pollo, Lechon Asado...they have, hands down, the best Cuban yellow rice in town as well as their black beans! The plantains are always cooked nicely and our son loves their crispy French fries, haha. The first thing I noticed when my order arrived was that there were no utensils included, which made it very difficult to enjoy the meal. On top of that, one of the items I ordered was completely missing. I understand that restaurants can be very busy, but attention to detail is critical. With so many Cuban/Latin restaurants in this area, customers have plenty of options. We've been coming to Rincon for 15+ years - it hasn't changed much in that time. You can slap new paint on a hole in the wall, and it's still a hole in the wall.... This is one of our favorite hole in the wall spots. A solid 5.1/5 on my scale. Is it fancy? NO! Is service fantastic? No, but it's by no means bad. Can be slow sometimes... but the staff cares! We eat Cuban at least once a week all over Lee county and have Cuban coffee 5-6 days a week. Unfortunately, we have noticed a decline in the quality of several items, every where in the past couple of years. We decided to take a ride to El Recon and try it out. We had the palomilla steak fries, yuca frita, congri and a tamale. Everything was great and better than we can find on the mainland. We cannot find decent steak and pork steak. The steak is small and the pork steak is paper thin and NOT a real pork steak. Two years ago we got much better, they're buying junk from the wholesale people. Don't waste the money on this place. The food is at max a 5/10. The only thing I truly enjoyed with no problem or issue was the croquettes, empanadas & smoothies. I don't know where the heck they think their pricing comes from, when this food was worth maximum 75$ but I got charged $110.84 and that's not even the worse part, they had a service fee of 18% after any check above 15$. Went on a Sunday with my wife it was packed. Excited to eat great food we waited for 30 mins without being acknowledged by one employee. When I mentioned to a still did nothing. They were rude and even let my wife clean the table that had been empty for 20 mins and was still not helped or served food for another hour. I am giving Rincon two stars and I shall show you my justification. I order their oxtail stew some tamales and a steak sandwich. We'll start off with the best the oxtail stew. The ox tail stew had three big pieces of oxtail a lot of rice and some gravy. The problem was half of the gravy spilled all over due to improperly packaging into the plastic bag which caused a big mess.... But things happen! They cannot follow instructions as far as my sandwich. The first thing I asked was no potato sticks. As you look in the my photograph you can see obviously that they did not listen or did not read and put too many of those nasty little potato sticks on my sandwich. Also it was cooked well done I requested medium rare to medium. The steak being thin I understand this is quite hard to do for a inexperience cook or chef, but cooking it well done like a piece of shoe leather is only for Republicans and idiots in general.... And of course trying to eat it was like trying to chew on a piece of a leather sole. I also ordered a side salad it only cost approximately $1.75. But when I picked it out of the bag I got soaking wet of water dripping out of the salad . which was shredded lettuce and four very thin slices of tomatoes. including the end of the stem of the tomatoes .. I also kind of expected some type of salad dressing but there was none included anywhere in the bag... The lettuce once I had a drained it was still very soggy. You would think being in United States people would understand what is the traditional way of serving a basic salad. Here obviously they do not have a clue. The last issue that I will bring up is which they probably had no control. Maybe due to the restaurant was busy...It took a long time for them to do my order because my Uber driver arrived there and had to wait at least 20 minutes. Uber driver was very quick though he too did not pay attention to instructions. The instructions are very simple you're allowed to Park in my driveway and to please beep the horn so I know that you are arriving..I am mobile challenge. ( I walk slowly. ) read more

In town from NJ for a baseball tournament, this is EXACTLY what you need to be eating for dinner when you're in the area. We came here for my birthday and to have Rabo. The Rabo was fabulous, tender, meaty but with enough bone to really enjoy the "process." I was surprised at how flavorful the red beans were, yummy with red bell pepper and some secret herbs and spices. Very clean and airy indoor space, booths were comfortable and not worn out. This restaurant is a hit or miss. I've eaten here several times and when they are on point their food is awesome but when I ate their Saturday special of rabo ensendio (my favorite) the only thing that was ensendio was my stomach; it wasn't that good. I guess the biggest thing they got going for them are the beautiful Cuban waitresses; they are very nice and accommodating but I'm there to eat good Cuban food.
