Since we needed to do some additional planning, we found and met with another elder law attorney to map out a plan, who also stopped responding. We were referred to Nay & Friedenberg by the attorney who assists us with our real estate and Darin Dooley has been outstanding! He is always calm, provides us the options we have available to choose from, the impact of each option, and explains them in an easy to understand manner. We are so grateful for their assistance, we are now beginning to use Darin for our own needs, and look forward to working with him to plan our retirement. I cannot say enough about this firm, they respond promptly, patiently, and use a common sense approach to very complicated issues, which makes working with them extremely enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Going into this, I thought it would be incredibly intimidating and complex but it was surprising direct - not because it is - but because of the way Sam was able to explain things in a way it was easy to get. And I should mention that in addition to Sam, everyone there was incredibly kind and helpful as my wife and I set up our living trust. So after years (yes, years) of putting this off, we finally have the peace of mind of a trust. And not just because of some paper but because these people helped give us some confidence in the process as well. So lucky we were referred here!

I was referred to Richard Hattenhauer, who listened to my situation and worked with me through the steps of preparing a trust, a special needs trust, powers of attorney, and wills. He was patient in explaining legal issues (sometimes twice or more!), worked to simplify the complex paperwork of how to move assets into the trust, and wisely suggested that we get a second attorney involved to represent other family members so that all legal actions were supportable and above reproach. I never felt that he or his efficient staff were billing me in 6 minute increments for phone calls and questions. There was a single bill at the end, and it was the same fee he discussed at the first meeting. His guidance was good, his work timely, and he and his staff were congenial and understanding. I offer my strong recommendation.

One benefit of a properly funded Trust is that your family will avoid the high cost, and time, associated with probate. Probate is the state sanctioned change of ownership from the decedent, to his or her beneficiaries, that takes approximately six months to one year to administer, and is expensive to the beneficiaries. A properly drafted Trust can provide for you, and, if you are married, your spouse's financial future. A Trust can also protect and provide for an impaired spouse or child. A trust can guide children and grandchildren toward a higher education and a hoped for financially secure future. Trusts also address the intricacies, and unintended surprises, that a blended family can create. Wills, which unfortunately only work through probate, may be appropriate for some young couples or individuals with few present day assets I am a veteran and a VA accredited attorney, and I can assist qualified veterans, or their spouses, who are over the age of 65, receive veteran's aid and attendance benefits. Mr. Hattenhauer is authorized to practice law in the States of Oregon (1979), and Iowa (1975), and before the Oregon Federal District Court. He is a member of the Oregon Bar Association, and the Oregon State Bar's Estate Planning and Business Law Sections.

I filed a bankruptcy in 2017 with Adam Weiner. The level of experience, kindness, and…read moreresponsiveness of his office is unmatched. There are several options in the Portland metro, but the difference with Adam's law firms and others is that he is not here to sell you on something, but to help you navigate a difficult time and to give you knowledge about better options for the future. His rates were reasonable, and although I borrowed money to pay the whole fee at the time, he does take payments, as I recall. His office was very quick at responding to any questions or concerns. The reason for this late review is that, unfortunately, my family made a series of mistakes that landed us back in bankruptcy. Even worse, I let my embarrassment over our situation prevent us from choosing this office again and going with a much less capable firm. Don't make my mistake. Adam Weiner's office is the one you want, hands down. Having been through two bankruptcies, I have to say that this is the one I recommend to friends and family. They are very organized in setting you up for filing, treat you with respect, and help you navigate what can be a pretty overwhelming process. A bad law firm makes bankruptcy feel more stressful. With Adam Weiner every week it gets easier and easier and you'll end up feeling like you have a fresh start and were treated well by him.

We were quoted 13K, which we agreed upon. That amount was surpassed greatly. It was evident that copy and paste was used for the majority of legal documents. The work was not done by a lawyer, but a legal assistant. There were spelling errors, delays, poor communication and failure to mail documents. On one invoice was a 30 minute charge to mail a letter. Maybe they walked to the mailbox??? The final straw was this letter. There is no more money in the estate. Fitzwater received over $20,000 for the guardianship and simple probate. They were paid from the estate. The conversation with Jonathon today involved him telling my husband that Oregon Law states that legal fees were to be paid before other creditors. My husband was NEVER informed of this law and paid outstanding medical bills with the little amount that was left in the estate. Jonathon also stated that "he talked with the partners about waiving the unpaid invoice and they declined". Unreal, the firm got over 20K for the "work" in the case. Do not hire them unless you have unlimited funds.
