I had the misfortune of retaining Brandon Hicks for a drug charge in Hendricks County. During our…read moreinitial phone call he never allowed the conversation to drift from the fact that he was to be paid 3000 retainer and paid no attention to the particulars of my case. I mistook his demands for the retainer to reflect a man confident in his ability . I thought this must be a man who was so sure of his ability to represent his client that he is well aware of his worth. This, coupled with the fact that he assured me that I would be granted a new suppression hearing with new counsel, convinced me secure his representation. Mr Hicks accepted my retainer and my case and immediately became unreachable. He made sitting down in person absolutely impossible and never once gave me the opportunity to explain to him my version of the events that took place on the night of my arrest. Even so, I was hopeful that this must be a man who works quietly in the background and is surely somewhere forming a strategy and I should be patient with this person who has taken my money and trust his process, though the fact that he had yet to be in the same room with me even once for months and had chosen not to return my messages which had begun to become frantic had begun to make me very uneasy. When finally a pretrial court date came I was eager to finally meet this elusive man who had made himself so impossible to communicate with as we were all to be in court that day. As the other cases were called the courtroom thinned until I was the only person left and learned he didn't show up at all. At this point it was becoming obvious there was a problem and I began attempting to reach him far more aggressively and when finally I did he was unable to recall what my case was concerning or what my charges were. I reminded him of these things and the suppression hearing he had assured me of and he told me there was no record of the first hearing and he could find no record my original suppression ever happened. I had to actually get on my case myself and literally email it to him because he had not bothered to or was incapable of finding it even though his promises of a second one was a deciding point in my hiring him. Mr, Hicks spent the remaining time I allowed him to be my counsel continuing to ignore my calls, refusing to meet with me, and failing to form any semblance of a strategy for my defense. I caution anyone who is need of a competent lawyer to avoid this person at risk of your freedom. I fired him in open court and secured new counsel and my case was suddenly defensible and worthy of trial. Firing him was the smartest thing Ive done since I made this mistake of hiring him. I urge you not to make the same mistake

When my boyfriend finally got another lawyer he found plenty of issues with his case smh.
