Addressing Concerns: A Response to Mrs. Mary Ellen Ciganovich…read moreIn the realm of customer service, it is not uncommon for misunderstandings to arise. We received a request from Mrs. Mary Ellen Ciganovich regarding a non-refundable deposit, which has prompted us to clarify our position and express our commitment to customer satisfaction. Mrs. Ciganovich sought the return of her non-refundable deposit, a request that we carefully reviewed. As a business, we strive to uphold our policies while also ensuring fairness and transparency in our dealings with our clients. Given the nature of the deposit, which was clearly outlined in our agreement, we found ourselves in a challenging position when it came to providing a refund. When we initiated the refund process through PayPal, we encountered an unexpected charge associated with this transaction. In an effort to defend our policy and clarify our position, we disputed this charge with relevant documentation. We presented a comprehensive case to PayPal, illustrating our adherence to the agreed terms and the rationale behind our policies. To our relief, PayPal awarded us the dispute, confirming our stance. While we believe that we acted in accordance with our established policies, we are genuinely sorry to hear that this experience has led to dissatisfaction on Mrs. Ciganovich's part. Our goal has always been to maintain a constructive relationship with our clients, and we recognize that despite our best efforts, there are times when expectations may not align perfectly. In our correspondence with Mrs. Ciganovich, we made several attempts to address her concerns through collaboration and meetings. We dedicated considerable time and effort to understanding her needs and working towards a resolution that would leave her satisfied. Unfortunately, it appears that these efforts did not meet her expectations, and for that, we sincerely apologize. We understand that the refund dispute has left Mrs. Ciganovich feeling frustrated, and we recognize the impact that a negative review can have on our reputation. While we respect the right to express one's dissatisfaction, we also wish to highlight that our intention has always been to act in good faith and to comply with the agreements made with our customers. In conclusion, we appreciate Mrs. Ciganovich's feedback and take it to heart. We strive to learn from each encounter and continue to improve our communication and service delivery. It is our hope that this response clarifies our position and expresses our genuine intention to support our clients through transparent and fair practices. We remain committed to upholding the standards of service that we believe our customers deserve and will continue to work diligently toward finding solutions that foster satisfaction and trust. He said he didn't want to over promise and under perform which was nice to hear in a world where everyone promises the moon and delivers zip so I really respected that. I worked with Trip Farmer on a number of projects over nearly a decade and generally found him…read morereliable in the past. Unfortunately, a recent experience has forced me to reconsider that view. In late 2024, I requested a small task -- a file extension -- which I estimated would take 30 minutes. I asked Trip for a breakdown of the time and charges after receiving an unexpected invoice for $650+. I never received a clear response, despite following up. Months later, he sent a revised invoice for $350 -- again, without my agreement -- and eventually escalated the matter to debt collection charging me $842. To be clear: I made multiple attempts to resolve the dispute directly, including offering to pay for the 30 minutes of work I requested. My messages went unanswered for long stretches, and I was given no explanation for the charges beyond vague references to time spent. Being sent to collections over a disputed charge -- without any willingness to engage -- is not something I take lightly. I've worked with many collaborators over the years and never encountered anything like this. I share this to help others make an informed decision. Work with Trip only if you're comfortable with a lack of communication and the risk of escalation over relatively minor disputes.

Oftentimes, you leave their office wondering if their isn't a better resource and why you pay them. HHM is a breathe of fresh air. Yes, you'll pay a premium rate. But good advice/service comes with a price. If you're looking to get a simple personal tax return done, you can probably pay a small fee elsewhere. But if you are a business owner, have ownership in multiple entities, etc., you really need an expert in your corner (there are too many areas that a lot of CPAs overlook or simply know nothing about). With various partners in the firm, each brings a different area of expertise. I've only dealt with Kyle Christensen to this point. He's very professional, personable (yes, a personable CPA) and will certainly point you to another partner if his expertise doesn't match your needs. I recommend Kyle (and HHM) as often as possible. (Be sure to tell him you read Byron's Yelp review, if this was a factor in calling him).
