In September of 2012 I finally decided that it was time to replace my aging roof shingles before any serious leakage occurred. I went through the normal process of obtaining several estimates from local contractors including Ridgeline Exteriors operating out of No. Berwick, Maine. Mr. Wayne Perry from Ridgeline came to my house and gave me an estimate for material and labor to put on a new roof system for both my house and attached garage. I was pleasantly surprised when his estimate was significantly lower than others I had already received. Knowing that price alone is not the only consideration in selecting a contractor I proceeded to obtain additional information from Mr. Perry. He provided me with a complete description of the materials that he would be using along with details on how the old shingles are removed and the new roofing system is installed. He expertly answered all my questions and readily provided me with a list of references (including addresses and telephone numbers) of recent customers within my area. I performed due diligence necessary before such a large expenditure by checking out references, viewing previous work, checking for complaints at local Better Business Bureau, and researching the quality of the material being used. The references checked out fine, the previous work looked great and the BBB listed no complaints against Ridgeline Exteriors. When I checked out the primary material to be used (Owens Corning "Oakridge" shingle), I was happy to find that they are rated by Consumers Reports as "CR Best Buy" out of 18 products tested (www.midwestwholesale.net/images/Roofing+Consumer+Report.pdf ).
I was also surprised to find that Ridgeline Exteriors is the only Preferred Contractor, in So. Maine, listed on the Owens Corning website for roof shingle replacement (http://roofing.owenscorning.com/homeowner/locator/?zip=04102&distance=50 ).
During a second meeting with Mr. Perry I expressed concern about replacing the lead around my chimney as it had been leaking into my garage. He informed me that the lead would be replaced around the whole chimney and doing so was included within the original estimate provided. Other contractors wanted up to an additional $600 to do the lead work. I also requested an estimate to replace the existing shadow boards attached to the fascia boards located below the eaves of my house. Mr. Perry stated that he would have his crew install the new shadow boards at no additional cost as long as I supplied the material. Only one other contractor would even provide me an estimate to do this and he wanted an additional $500.
It took under a day and a half for the Ridgeline Exteriors crew to install the new roof system on my house and garage. I took the time to watch some of the installation and it was evident that they have a very experienced group actually performing the installation. My new roof looks great and I have every confidence that due to their professional installation my roof will be able to withstand our rugged Maine climate and be maintenance free for many years to come.
I sincerely thank Ridgeline Exteriors for their excellent work and wish to have my name added to their expanding list of satisfied customers. I also wholeheartedly recommend Ridgeline Exteriors for your roofing needs. read more
