I made an appt for an adjustment due to an accident. When I called to make the appointment, they were three weeks out. That was actually great because the nature of my accident meant that I couldn't get adjusted right away. I sent them my insurance information, which is Kaiser, and waited patiently for my appointment. On the day that I arrived, the receptionist informed me that they would be charging me an extra $40 on top of my co-pay because "Kaiser is very unhelpful, doesn't pay them enough or in a timely manner" I was not willing to pay additional money outside of my co-pay for their "inconvenience". So I left and I sent a follow-up email to the owner. Not necessarily about the fee, but the lack of communication leading up to the appt. They KNEW I had Kaiser and it would have been a great time to communicate the additional fee. Also, if it is such a pain, why do they even accept Kaiser insurance. See below for my email to the clinic and the owners arrogant and unprofessional response : Me: Well - like I told you- and you were very nice- I just wish I had been notified prior to my appt that you were going to charge me extra because I had Kaiser Insurance. I haven't been to a new chiro in a few years- but I've never been charged extra outside of what my insurance will pay for my care. It was a massive inconvenience to schedule this appt 3 weeks in advance, right in the middle of my workday - just to be told my copay I was expecting would be more than double. I even sent the info over that I was a Kaiser patient weeks ago. If you look at the prior email thread. That would have been a great time to inform me of the additional charge. I was just looking for a chiropractor- I don't need any general practice care or office exams- I see my PCP on a reg basis. And it wasn't made clear there would be additional services or charges besides just a chiropractic exam. I guess- long story short- I just wish communication had been more clear up front. Robs response: Lacye, I'm sorry that you were disappointed by the extra charge on top of your copay. Here's the deal: CHP pays us an amount that is downright insulting. My compromise was to continue to see patients and let them use their insurance but I had to charge them extra due to the extremely low reimbursement rates. For example, (as I have kaiser insurance as well), an MD who does a 20min telehealth visit gets around $230 via kaiser. I get for a 30min visit $44 including your copay, which is insulting and is also untenable to continue to stay in practice. Now if you are only looking for a quick 10min visit then I'm sure you'll find plenty of places that you can get that type of in/out treatment. However, we go above and beyond, we treat first visits for an hour and follow ups for 30mins, as we want to address all issues in a holistic way, meaning not just address your pain, but also where it's coming from and why it's happening. We are required to do an exam at the first visit and after it has been 6mos since the prior visit. Thus, the only way to continue to keep accepting CHP/Kaiser was to charge patients extra money since they don't cover soft tissue work, extremity adjustments or any type of extremity work, etc.. They only pay for a spinal adjustment, which is like 5-10mins of our time. In the future you could get a referral from your primary and then their wouldn't be an extra charge as an option. I truly would rather not do this type of thing, but I couldn't stay in business if I was to accept what they paid me. Thanks for your time and understanding, and also not understanding about how insurance works and thinking, what? That we were trying to screw you over? That we were being dishonest? Did you stop to think about reimbursement rates, about how long we spend with you? About how much time we spend actually touching your body, listening to you? Does your MD do that? Do they actually touch you, feel where you're having issues? Probably not. If you'd like to reconsider paying us, that would be great! If not, then you can rest with the guilt that a doctor spent their time with you and you couldn't be bothered to understand what your insurance actually pays out and you walked out. Couldn't be more pleased to have found Dr Rob all thanks to yelp. The reviews really live up to the hype. Dr Rob is the best and most thorough Chiropractor I've ever been to. From my first appt, we went from head to toe discussing what was in pain, felt uncomfortable, tight, you name it. And with having spinal surgery 2 years ago and being a care taker who consistently is holding babies and lifting up and down, I had a lot going on. He not only did a very thorough adjustment, but also did some soft tissue work with my lumbar, which is where I have a ton of scar tissue, tightness, numbness and pain. He also did some work on my neck, which is always tight and achey. Since, I've seen Dr Rob a couple times, gotten a massage there by Billy (which was also thorough and relaxing! I was always satisfied with the care I received, but it wasn't until I experienced a shoulder dislocation earlier this year that I came to appreciate what a talented and caring provider Dr. Rob is. He attended to every facet of my symptoms, providing adjustments, skilled body manipulation around my shoulder joint, assigned helpful exercises, and frankly helped me avoid a surgery which would have been both costly and substantially disruptive. Super weird interaction here. My first massage was great. I came back for follow up appointment and masseuse asked me to fill out paperwork again. She didn't recognize me from one week prior and forgot about the treatment plan she recommended. She went in back room with a man (manager?) and I heard awkward conversation about massage only clients. My second massage was not enjoyable as I was completely put off by this weird interaction. Dr. Rob is absolutely amazing. He really spends time finding all the sore spots. Every rib and joint that is out of whack he adjusts. He began his career as a massage therapist and it really shows. Dr. Bodner is an incredibly gifted practitioner. I have only been to a handful of chiropractors and they kind of make me nervous. But after the first visit with Dr. Bodner I trusted him completely and immediately felt relief from neck and shoulder pain. I appreciate that he spends a good deal of time palpating and working on soft tissue before any adjustments are made. I also liked that I could come in once or twice a year as needed. I have been to countless chiropractors over the last few years to deal with a mystery neck injury. When my neck went into spasm last week and I needed an emergency appointment, Dr. Bodner was the only one to call me back and squeezed me in right away! In three sessions, he has calmed my neck and back down more effectively and efficiently than anyone I've seen, and with less machinery and gadgets. He is extremely personable and approachable, and the office is warm and inviting. Prices are unbelievably reasonable and he has a massage therapist in office. I came to Dr Rob in January to avoid a second surgery on a knee injury and within a few short weeks of seeing him I was able to cancel the surgery. It's now been 6 months since our first meeting and I'm about 90% to full recovery. I could not have made it this far without his diligence, care, and encouragement to helping me hit my goal. I also had Rob treat my son for a back injury that he had been in physical therapy sessions for a couple months. I walked in on a Monday at 9AM with a fairly ignorant fear of chiropractors, only having seen adjustments on reality TV - don't judge. Dr. Rob did more than quell my fear, he made my body feel 'right' again. It's incredible what a difference an adjustment made to parts of my body I didn't even know needed relief. I've since been back for a massage - which was heavenly - and a quick check in with Dr. Rob who did some minor adjustments. I have always been weary of chiropractors, so when I was in a car accident that left me with back pain, I was not thrilled when the doctor I went to recommended massage and chiropractic therapy. Some women in my office highly recommended Doc Rob so I checked it out. When you walk in to the old house turned office, there is a personal greeter named Buddy - a wiggly lab mix that is always excited to see you! After sufficiently petting Buddy, you're greeted by a person who is just as friendly. The office is very calming and inviting. After my massage, I told Doc Rob that I was really nervous about getting a chiropractic adjustment and he was very cool about it. He talked me through everything and explained what he was doing and why. I also couldn't believe it when he said he doesn't believe in over-adjusting, because I had always thought of a chiropractor as someone who always wanted to crack something. Not Doc Rob. My back is almost completely back to normal thanks to regular sessions. So, if you are feeling stiff, ouchy or are in need of a relaxing massage/adjustment, go see Doc Rob! I have been going to Ridgeline Clinic off and on for several years. Dr. Rob and his staff are always super friendly and down to earth. Ridgeline is the quintesential Portland version of a Chiro/wellness clinic, easy going and relaxed in a renovated old house (perfect spot for a Portlandia sketch). You won't find stark white walls, medical lighting, or the smell of strong cleaners here. There are no condescending front desk people, or un-personable ego centric doctors. This review only reflects the chiropractic care portion of the clinic. I'm going to start off by admitting that I messed up. Yes, I missed my first appointment which is not something I normally do but it happened nonetheless. Upon realizing this I apologized and owned up to my mistake and rescheduled the appointment right away. When I arrive I am met by a gentleman who's less than welcoming. Even before a formal or pleasant greeting/introduction, he lets me know that he is going to charge me $40 for missing my first appointment. He states that he normally wouldn't but in this "case" he was so put out that he had no choice. His unforgiving nature and unwelcoming attitude prompted me to pay my fee and wash my hands of his services. (A fee that I honestly didn't have to pay because I hadn't even signed the waiver yet, but I paid anyway.) I do not want to associate, let alone be worked on, by a man such as him. Not only did he lose my respect, he lost a potentially loyal client who would have had multiple visits. It's unfortunate that things worked out this way, but I for one am actually thankful that I saw his true nature from the start rather finding out later. I've learned that I should make reminders so such occurrences are avoided in the future. And my hope is that he will learn that one of the best things we can do as fellow human beings is to forgive. read more

I went to Dr. Rob based on a recommendation from a friend. I had developed a calcification in my wrist due to a tendon injury that was causing me intense pain, and my primary care physician recommended acupuncture (really?). Dr. Rob treated my wrist with a low-level laser, and after the first session, my pain had drastically reduced, and I regained most of the range of motion in my wrist (which the acupuncture couldn't do, unfortunately). I only needed four sessions and I feel 1000x better. Best of all, I will finally be able to rock climb at full strength again soon! Dr. Rob himself is friendly and personable, and not at all what I expected from my first chiropractic experience. He also has a history in rock climbing as well, so I trusted that he knew what he was doing. His price was unbelievably low, and as a person with no health insurance and limited options, that was kind of a necessity. I also hear he gives good massages. Dr. Rob is incredibly calm, patient, and compassionate, while also being enthusiastic about his practice. He does whatever he can to help me. I'm a little nervous about chiropractic and he has a wonderful way of working with me that calms my nerves. I love the combo of massage and chiro (as well as craniosacral!), as he has a feel for both soft tissue and bony structures. Also, he is always sure to follow treatments up with general exercises to help the client "maintain" the adjustments he has given. I came to this clinic in a fairly hopeless state of mind after an automobile accident. Dr. Rob and his crew were not only supportive of me, but actually advocated on my behalf so I could get the care that I needed. Everyone here is lovely, talented, and skillful, but I especially loved my adjustments with Dr. Rob Bodner, my massages with Sarah McLaughlin, and my acupuncture treatment with Cayley Christensen from Organic Acupuncture (housed in the same building). All of these wonderful people helped me heal my body and I am now in recovery and back to my normal activities. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in need of some good healing. In April, just as COVID hit, I came down with "capsulitis" also known as Frozen Shoulder. It was worse than you can imagine. The pain was intense. I couldn't move my arm, I couldn't sleep, I couldn't think, I couldn't work, I couldn't care for my children... the bathroom was challenging. My regular MD and my Sports Med Dr. could only offer pills and exercises (which I couldn't do). The pills helped with the pain, but they did not let me do much else. I was depressed. Dr. Rob worked wonders. Over the course of the next few weeks he not only restored my mobility (eliminating my pain in the process) but he restored my dignity. I didn't not realize how much of my self-esteem was tied to my ability to be productive. I felt useless. Dr. Rob brought me out of my despair both physically and mentally.
