We are the pet parents of a stupendous (in our opinion) 6 1/2 year old Pittie named Sargent Major. We live in a pretty remote part of the state and normal every day sights such as cars, people and other "pets" are a rare occurrence. Hence Sarge isn't familiar with them and could be a bit aggressive when he encounters them. We have never boarded him for either daycare or extended boarding however we recently needed to have him at a boarding facility. Our nerves were way up there and the stress we felt was off the charts. My husband spoke to LAUREN and detailed our concerns, spoke of our love for and concern about having an unsocialized "puppy" who needed her services. We had spoken candidly with a few other people in the pet care field and we were informed more times than not that they were really not able to accommodate us (for which we were completely understanding). LAUREN asked all the pertinent questions, answered all of ours and suggested a one day orientation type stay for him to see how he would do (being his first ever time away from home) and to also see how they would be able to interact with Sarge. Night before we packed up his favorite blanket, his favorite toy, his food and snacks. The day dawned and Sarge was off to Fetching Ridge Pet Hotel and Spa. Sign in and drop off was a breeze. More comforting was how upbeat LAUREN AND STAFF were when we entered. The handoff was seamless and with a bit of apprehension Sarge was led off to his adventure. No phone calls from Fetching Ridge all day gave us confidence, apparently they must have been doing well at their trial. When we went to pick him up later that day a very smiling LAUREN greeted us and assured us that our day camper had done very well and behaved well! We received a full report about his free time activities, his feeding and interactions. When Sarge was brought out to us we were taking home a VERY HAPPY and TIRED dog. I realize that this has been a bit wordy, but I HAD to say in every sense with all the words that if you have a pet that needs grooming, boarding, daycare or all of it you MUST do your pets and yourselves the favor and allow Fetching Ridge Pet Hotel and Spa to take care of it! Sarge will be boarding there for 4 nights this weekend, we are headed on our own adventure with a calm and certainty that our boy is in the BEST CARE. Thank you Lauren and staff from the bottom of our hearts for caring for our puppy and us at the same time.

I never considered this his primary vet as he as one in our hometown of Charleston, SC, that he has attended since I first took him home and who he usually sees for yearly check-in appointments, given that I visit often as my parents, other family, and friends still live there. That said, I have taken Junior to ANRV several times when I've had more urgent concerns regarding his health, such as allergies and hotspots and others. I have seen mostly all practitioners, Drs. Koh, Mervin, and McAdams, throughout my time here. I've had varying experiences. At times, I've noticed that interpersonal communications could be improved, but nothing bad enough to report or really even write a Yelp review about. (Once, I did cry after I left, because a provider said, "Aww, he's getting old. You know what that means, right?" sort of alluding to him being old and dying relatively soon, and, of course, I am super sensitive about my companion). Other times, I've questioned some of the procedures they've encouraged, wondering whether they are absolutely necessary or if they are just trying to gather more money. Overall, however, I have been satisfied and pleased with all of my visits. I wanted to write specifically about my experience today. I have been worried about my dog's labored breathing and finally called this morning to ask whether I could schedule an appointment for him to be seen. The receptionist noticed the concern in my voice, and urged me to come in right away to be squeezed in to be seen. Upon entering the facility, I immediately cried out of concern for my dog (note: this is not a common occurrence for me), and the two women in the front office were kind to comfort me. When I was taken back into the room, our vet tech was very kind with Junior, listening to my concerns, and gathering his vitals. Dr. McAdams himself was exceptionally receptive, effective, and quickly reassured me that everything was okay, providing me several options for treatment and allowing me to make an informed choice. When checking out and paying, the receptionist heard me discuss with my friend (who kindly came to visit us) that I was unclear whether my dog's ear was infected or not, and she quickly went to find the vet tech so she could clarify the diagnosis. Most importantly to me,the receptionist looked me in the eye and genuinely reassured me not to feel embarrassed or like I am "putting anyone out" for my questions and concerns about my pet. This was exceptionally kind and meaningful to me, and I sincerely left this afternoon feeling that everyone on staff cared about me and my dog. I appreciate everyone's help today and throughout my time in Boone, as they have accommodated my random, rather hectic and panicked phone calls and impromptu visits concerning my dog. If you have a pet in Boone, I would definitely consider coming here. Note, too, that one some days they are open late (until 8:00 pm) and even on some Saturdays. I would recommend meeting with Dr. McAdams as he is direct, no BS, and to-the-point, though all the providers have been kind and helpful, as well. Thanks, App New River!

There is no sense reiterating the entire story here but needless to say, this is not a place I will ever put my dog again. He came back losing a lot of weight because he was nervous with so many dogs there and still hasn't shaken that freaked out look after being home. I don't think the care was bad for the dog, but the care for the human owner was abysmal. I have never been treated like this by anyone in the wonderful town of Blowing Rock. Her husband is friendly and sane. If you really must go here, deal with him. He understood why I was upset and was helpful when I rushed to pick my dog up immediately after an international flight (because of the tone of her voice mails that came in while I was on the plane). Totally baffled by the treatment I got and never going back. As the one leading the creation of a dog park here in BR I will be sure to let all the dog parents here in town know. And I have the whack job voicemails saved for emphasis. Scary and awful. Ruined the last leg of my trip because of worry.

I had taken my dog here several times in the past and I couldn't have asked for a better place for my dog to have stayed. If the last person's dog was nervous around other dogs how is the owner to blame for that? I don't know the owner on a personal level at all, I simply know her through the times I had dropped my beloved dog off there. And if she was having an off week or something, I am pretty sure that we all have had one of those. Whether someone is opening a dog park or not in Blowing Rock that does not mean they should use their contact power to try and destroy someone's business on an app like Yelp. So to spread some positivity... do not hesitate to take your four legged family member here. You will not be disappointed. The accommodations are above what you will find anywhere else (trust me I had tried them all) and my dog loved it so much that every time we would pull in the driveway she knew exactly where she was and was excited. Anna was never that way any other time I had taken her someplace when I had to go out of town. I just hope the other posters "personality" didn't prevent the dogs in Blowing Rock from getting a dog park. As Mountain Mama's supposed personality conflict with the past-poster shouldn't prevent your dog from staying at the best doggie daycare and boarding in the high country.
