I immediately called Palm City on Route 28 in South Yarmouth, and the guy was super-pleasant, gave me prices and said they could look at it right away. The tune-up is cheaper also. There are other bike shops right on the bike path in nicer, shadier and more scenic sections in Brewster & Orleans. The Dennis section where Barb's is located is hot, dry & sunny with no scenery. They just get customers due to location, not prices or attitude. One review said they were too lazy to dig out the proper-sized bike for them, and another reviewer said they were rented bikes with no helmets because they "ran out". How reckless & irresponsible is that?? So I'm not the only disgruntled customer. I'd say Barb's needs to hire nicer employees & get their act together or they will keep getting bad reviews and losing business to the nicer shops in better locations..

OK, then take down the "20 dollar tuneup!" sign out front tacked to the tree! Came the next day to rent and was told I need a bike rack to rent a bike. How many people have bike racks on their cars but don't have bikes?! I told him I was going to put it in a pickup and he agreed to rent a bike to me. I gave him my info and was just starting to secure the bike in the bed of the truck when this person came running out of the house yelling "No! No! Dad says no! Don't rent to them!" The guy said, "Sorry can't rent to you" We packed back up and left. Are you kidding? The entire process wasted 20 or so minutes. There are way better places to rent from. We ended going into Falmouth and rented from a very cool shop that was friendly and helpful and didn't have crazy attack dogs in undersized cages and odd people running out of the house shouting things. Don't go here. They crazy people.

I think the other reviewer forgets that this IS a business ... just as you can't drop your car off and get automatic tune-up, or stop in the doctor or attorney office and expect to be seen immediately. Also, I have always found that if you are friendly and courteous, most people are back to you. Sounds like the previous reviewer had an attitude.

Excellent Excuses; POOR Maintenance…read more It's the bike shop you want to love, but can't. It's got a cute name, great locations, is friendly, and family run. We rented twice in the 2021 season, a total of five bikes. Almost all of them had maintenance problems ranging from the annoying to the trip-stopping. One bike seized up on the trail. The excuses and apologizes were convincing and friendly, so we came back for a second go. Worse. Example: One kids bike crank seized up. That's not a mishap. It's the result of not cleaning and repacking the crank bearing annually, which should be normal routine maintenance for rental inventory. Example: A half-hour later they showed up with a replacement bike and an excuse, but the technician refused to stay until our child fully tested it. That bike had a front derailleur and shifter so gummed up and dirty that it took superhuman effort to shift. Our child could not operate it, so plod along with no front derailleur. Example: Three bikes had grimy tacky grips. They excused themselves saying last year's sanitizer destroyed them. Ok, but why didn't the replace them? They claimed they can't get any because of covid. I took that at face value, but then checked on Amazon that same day. I can order any number of brands, delivered as soon as tomorrow. So a bald-faced lie. Example: Two other bikes had one inoperable derailleurs each. Each and every problem would have been avoided by modest routine maintenance. But with every bike rented, I guess they figure, why should we bother? One reason is a review like this. Try another shop.

I stopped by Idle Times Bike Shop early on a Saturday morning around 8:30 AM hoping to quickly put…read moresome air in my tire -- something that would've taken less than a minute. Unfortunately, I was met with an incredibly rude staff member, a man with a beard who was setting bikes out front. He made it very clear he had no interest in helping and came across as downright miserable. In my experience, bike shops are usually staffed by people who love what they do and are happy to help, even with small requests like this. This was the complete opposite. It left a really bad impression, and I won't be going back. There are plenty of other places on the Cape where the staff actually care about the cycling community.

Rented a couple bikes and a kids bike trailer for the week. The tires on the trailer were…read moreunfortunately incredibly worn, to the point that the threading of the tire was visible. While noticeable, it wasn't an issue until we had a flat with both my kids inside many miles from where we started. Had to bike to Idle Times and exchange the wheel for a new one, which they were kind enough to immediately help with. However, when we returned the bikes, I mentioned this to a staff member. They stated that they were just trying to stretch the life of the trailer tires as far as possible and seemed angry when I suggested this wasn't a good idea for a trailer meant for carrying kids. The owner was even less apologetic. Over email, he insinuated that this was my fault and that the trailer must have been dragged behind a car (logistically near impossible, if you take a second to think about it..) even after the staff member had admitted fault. When pressed, he continued to double down, telling me to "take my meds" and called me "mentally ill", perhaps insults that would have been acceptable in 1990. In his final reply, he informed me that he would be going to the police if he received any more messages from me (there were only about 4 messages back and forth) to get a no trespass order. Safe to say, such an order will not be necessary, would never rent from Idle times again or step foot in their shops! Disappointed by this experience, surely there are many better options on the cape.
