We used Rick and his team for a conversion of 1938 garage/workshop into a bedroom/bath and laundry room. We were surprised at how quickly and efficiently the team started demolition, hauled away the old concrete and leveled the new concrete floors. First he said he would remodel my bathroom and changed his mind. He is very hard to communicate with and I feel like he would not do a good job. I really just want my plumbing updated but have to wait until I get my new sidewalk put in and my front yard shrub taken out for the new sidewalk that will be wide enough for a wheel chair. I also will be getting a new paved road in front of my home and the men I talked to today from Lucas Paving were very good to talk to and they made me feel very comfortable I want someone who cares and does a good job and has patience plus good communication skills. read more

DO NOT HIRE THIS CONTRACTOR. They do not do what they promise. The subcontractors change constantly. It took seven months for a guest bath and master bath to be completed. Many changes were made for the project manager along the way. At one point we were introduced to another project manager with Rick stating we would be seeing the new manager every day. We never saw him again. A barn door was installed incorrectly creating more holes in the wall than necessary that required patches. My wife received an estimate from this joke of a company and before she could even say yes they were demanding payment. They showed up three days late and had a different guy on the job every other day. No invoicing just showed up to my house demanding payment every other day. They said it would take a week, ended up being 2 months and they were paid in full within 2 weeks so the service and end result was beyond horrible. Terrible company - do not hire them. read more

This was the very first remodel project that my husband and I took on in our fixer up home. We hired on Rick Robben Construction over 6 months ago to remodel our master bathroom. The contract stated that it would be a 3 day job which was obviously not realistic but that was the least of our worries. The job began with demo followed by plumbing and so on which seemed to be going smoothly with a seemingly experienced employee. Then 3 days into the job he was replaced with a new worker who remained the only guy to finish the job. Our final product was so disappointing and we are part to blame considering we paid the full balance only three days after the job started because we were asked for it, like I said we were new at this. Though, what we should have done was withheld 10% of the total cost to force the company to comply with our standards, which honestly wasn't much. The end result was so terrible.. it looked like an inexperienced person completed the job which is not what we paid for. The recessed mirror was not level so the mirror doesn't shut correctly, the tape and texture was in describable I mean the tape was completely showing through the corner walls, there is literally no texture on the walls I think the sheet rock was just painted over, the paint job was like a child painted it, the bathtub caulking literally came off days later after letting it fully dry, the ceiling bubbled instantly, the fan was incorrectly installed, the bathtub doors don't shut correctly, the toilet paper holder fell off the wall as well as the towel rack, the bath water shield came off the tub, the toilet leaked three days after the job was complete, the list goes on. I seriously cannot say anything good about my newly remodeled bathroom which is so sad. I hate to be the one complaining, but this was such a terrible experience for my husband and I and the company did nothing to fix the problems. They came out twice to fix some minor issues but then promised someone else would be by and no one ever showed. They stopped responding to any of my calls or emails. We now have to re hire someone to fix all these issues and pay our hard earned money to do so. This was definitely a lesson learned but that's the only good that came out of it. We have recently filed a complaint with the California contractors licensing board, but are still awaiting a response. I'm sure nothing will get done to make this right, but socially spreading the word about this company's work ethic should help others not make the same mistake we did. read more
