Located in the bohemian barrio of Recoleta, Richy Ricon, offers the best picada for Peruvian food in town. This tiny restaurant which sits 24 (they have 12 tables that sit 2..I did the math) offers lunch specials for $1.700!
Situated right behind the Vega Central, this VERY simple, open door restaurant (what do I mean by open door? As in they don't have doors...) boasts fresh food for AMAZING prices. Because they are next to the vega, their surroundings aren't the most glamorous (mostly minimarkets and places that sell eggs and veggies) but those who know about Richy Ricon's know to go here instead of the Tirso de Molina.
Here you will run into those who work at the vega on their lunch hour, neighbors of Richy Ricon's, as well as those who need a pick-me-up after their arduos shopping excursion in the vega.
The service is good, but nothing to write home about, what is outstanding are their prices. They don't have a set menu but rather have a lunch menu and a daily dinner menu (these specials change daily). As I said above, their lunches cost 1,700 and include a glass of juice, soup and a main dish. They serve traditional Peruvian "criollo" dishes that are good and filling.
I recommend the Aji de Gallina with rice, fried fish with beans and rice and stewed chicken with beans -- you can also ask for a veggie option.
If you work close, I definitely recommend picking up lunch. You can call email the owner: richyricon@hotmail.cl to order ahead of time and take your food to go or find out what they are serving that day. read more
