It's not a you pick apples place. Located in Northport in Long Island NY, they offer large bags of different varieties of apples in the fruit stand barn type building. We purchased apples, a gallon of apple cider, the apple donuts and jam. Only the apples and cider are produced at this farm. The younger guy working at the counter was very friendly and answered all our questions. It would have been nice to take photos of an apple tree but they are farther away and fenced off. A vintage rusted tractor was used for taking photos. For the extra amount you pay for everything, it would be nice to see a closer look of the apple trees. The cider was delicious. read more

As a home-brewer, I needed several gallons of fresh, unpasteurized, cold-pressed apple-juice. Research pointed me to Richter's. The proprietor, and his staff, were both helpful and knowledgeable on any and all fruit, and, as we chatted, we could see many families on their out to enjoy the grounds, as well as those, bags full, faces smiling, getting into their cars. I dropped off my 'carboys' on Wednesday and the following morning I received a notification phone-call. The carboys were, literally, filled to the brim! The quality of the apple-juice was top notch and I've already begun the process of making the 'hard' cider. Property is beautiful and breathtaking. A friend suggested we visit here instead of hiking it to to the East End of Long Island. we were pleasantly surprised as the young man tending to the shoppe was friendly, welcoming and glad to see us. Their apples are fresh, crisp and delightful to the most discerning palate. They also have other "gift basket" items, Delicious apple cider and a wonderful lot to have a picnic in the car. This "off the beaten" path is a long time family that really appreciated that we stopped in and shopped here during this time in our society. A MUST visit. Pains me to leave them such a low score. Richter's Orchard holds a great deal of nostalgia for me and my family. Would always stop here in the fall when visiting my grandmother who lived in Greenlawn as a kid in the 90's. But you can't skate by on nostalgia alone. The apples are just not good. They are "fresh-ish" and crispy for maybe a couple days... and then become mealy and disgusting. Even when stored in the fridge. I have had homegrown and super market apples that last fresh weeks longer than Richter's. The apples are also extremely overpriced. And you can NOT pick them off the tree yourself. read more

If I could give this zero stars I would. I remember when I was young riding out here with my mother to get peaches and they were always so wonderful. I haven't been in a long time and decided to give it a try again. It cost me over $50 for three small bags of peaches which were all bad and not edible within three days. I gave some to a neighbor and actually felt guilty. The peaches at Costco are so much less expensive and so much better. I was there with my 2 1/2-year-old granddaughter and I mentioned to the man that I wanted to stop and take pictures of her standing by the apple trees that you pass on the way in. He said we couldn't pick them and I said I had no intentions of it I just wanted to take a couple of pictures. He got downright nasty and said if we stop there to take pictures everybody was going to want to go and pick apples. Between the attitude of the man and the lousy peaches I see no reason to ever go back there again. read more

Cutest Welsh Corgi named Grommet outside wearing the cutest jacket happy to greet customers. Beautiful farm off the main road. Nice variety of apples but you can't pick them off the trees which is what we wanted to do. We bought a dozen for $8 and I even ate one and didn't have an allergic reaction for the first time in years! We bought some jams and I'm excited to try them on my gluten free bread!! Then comes the Apples that we all love and cant be found any where else. No you wouldn't find a cold modern store you find a family run farm of over a hundred years old that doesnt want to be over run by mobs of people that ruin there lively hood. They provide us with the fruits of there labor and care that they grow the best for us to eat. Can you say the same. Good farm good people with good food grown here not in China . The apples are delicious from this farm. I go once a week during the season to buy a 1/2 peck of apples. They are sweet, crisp and juicy. Much better than buying from a supermarket. The family and the dog are all very friendly. This is NOT a you pick farm. read more

There is no Apple picking here, in spite of the good amount of publicity which says the contrary. However, the mill is very nice and there's lots of fresh apples and apple products to purchase here. Monday to Saturday 9-5:30 and 10-5:30 says the sign. read more

I don't understand why people are giving this orchard a bad rating. They are NOT a u-pick facility, so please don't treat them like they are one. If you're in doubt of what a place is, give them a call or look them up online. That's like being mad that you can't make your own salad in the middle of a grocery store. Richters has been a fixture in the community for years. I went on school trips there as a kid 20-25 years ago and, while I no longer live on the island, I make it a point to pop in when I'm visiting to pick up apples. The apples are more pricy than the store but are very fresh and they have a number of varieties that you can't get other places. Support your damn local farmers! They also make excellent cider and have other local goods like honey. read more

I love going here in the Fall, when they have a terrific selection of apples, and the best apple cider in the area. I can remember even as a child begging my mother to take us here for the apple cider, it is so fresh, you cannot compare it to what is in the grocery store. One year, my mother brought home a bushel of apples from here. I suppose she was really hungry. Nobody seemed to touch them, so I cut them up and made my first apple pie. She was shocked to see what i had done, and made it a fall tradition to continue making apple pies. Since then, I have continued the same tradition with my children, and I never forget to pick up the apple cider. I have so many happy memories radiating from Richters Orchard. Best cider, apples and donuts around!!! I do not kid you. Their donuts are so delicious, you can actually taste apples in every bite and on the taste left in your mouth. They have a great variety of apples to choose from. We were told they press cider on Thursday mornings and every day the week before thanksgiving. I am definitely coming back for more. This place has no bathroom. They don't allow anyone to pick any apples or go near the apple trees. The people who work here were rude. Basically, you're driving all the way here to go into a tiny store to purchase apples. The cider donuts came out of a box and tasted stale. We came with two little kids and there was no place to walk around since just the driveway was open to the public. Imagine this: you are minding your own business driving down your typical busy north shore road when you suddenly see a handwritten sign that says "Richters Orchard". I was immediately jarred and excited. Seriously it's that random! I knew I had to check it out. So my friend and I were in the area and stopped in. We drove down a rocky driveway and seemingly teleported from long island in 2012 to long island as it was in the 1950's to a beautiful orchard farm on a hill. The store has a lot of that old school vintage farm charm: old signs and photos covered in dust and every toned in sepia as old things are. They have several different apples to choose from and some fresh cider. My friend and I were free to walk about the area, needless to say we felt at home. If only I did not have to leave this simpler place! I did not purchase any cider or apples, but if I need some I will definitely return! After leaving my friend and I saw such potential. This place is a rare gem, but it needs more. They should team up with a local bakery and have fresh pies and cider doughnuts and maybe some apple crumb muffins. You add a sign that says fresh apple pie and they could triple their profits. But maybe all of that would ruin the charm? Okay just give us some pie! read more

The apples, asian pears, and cider are absolutely ridiculous. Sure it's more expensive than mega-farm products you get at supermarkets but you know it's a local family and you can see the trees they're coming from. Did I mention the asian pears? Plus, the pick-your-own is great for families with small children but if you want to get some great local apples, just go to Richters. read more

This place sucks! We drove over an hour to find out you can't pick the apples yourself. You can choose from bins of already picked apples. Lame. I asked the guy ringing up other disappointed people why we couldn't pick our own and his reply was "there's 101 reasons", a group of us asked "can you give us just 1 then?" His reply to that, "umm... cause I hate it." Luckily we found Fort Salonga Farm that is a 5 minute drive from Richters and lets you pick your own apples! read more

This place is a time capsule to the mid 20th century. The orchard is many acres smack in the middle of densely populated North shore Long Island. You drive up and feel like you've been transported to the Hudson Valley. The stenciled signage on Pulaski Road is all you need to know, this is the real-deal family farm. Luckily, they are open til 5PM daily, even on Sunday. We popped in on a whim, curious about the promises of apples and cider. The store is stripped down bare bones, basically a barn that's been converted for sales. They have dozens of varieties of apples to choose from. They also have their own cider, some jams and some mulling spices, but that is IT. No pies, no cider donuts. I'm not certain if they sell other items at other times of the year. The proprietor's son was there and told us some general information about the orchard, about how his grandfather bought it from Mr Richter in the 1940's and he allowed us to check out the cider production area. This is not a North Fork tourist trap like you'll find east of Riverhead. This is a working farm with great apples and cider, you won't find anything like it elsewhere on Long Island. read more
