She asked me to help her get some other estimates because the one she received was extremely high. She had an advertisement card from DGB roofing construction Inc. which was local to Crystal Lake and to me a perk. So I called and made an appointment and they were very communicative. Because my mother's home is very difficult to locate they called me a couple times to find us and they were even able to come a day earlier which was great for me having come from out of state and other obligations I needed to manage. Now though, we were expecting to get an estimate my mother was so relieved and felt blessed by the adjuster named Nabil. He was so very honest, thoughtful and helpful and with all the other worries I have about an elderly parent; this gave me peace at heart. He was up on the roof with his equipment & I was also looking at the roof thinking it was looking pretty good. But while Nabil was doing his inspection from the roof and I was on the ground he explained how well the valleys were built, there were top notch vents and the flanges around the chimney stack were also very good quality. He told me it was a 30 year shingle and had probably had been put in about 15 years ago. I am so very grateful that there are still contractors out there with some ethics. Because it would be very, very easy to take advantage of an 80-year-old woman in this day and age. As the other company would have done and the second contractor I had contacted who wasn't going to come and look at the roof he was going to do it via satellite. No thanks! These are the reasons I am giving this company such a high rating even though we did not schedule a roofing project. One of those was Thompson Roofing, owned by Norm Thompson. Norm did a walk around with me and we discussed the job in detail. He is very knowledgeable, and offered a number of ideas and options to meet our requirements. He took all of the measurements needed to prepare a quote. Once I received all 5 quotes, I saw that Norm's quote was neither the lowest, or highest, but was very detailed, and gave us options that we had requested. We were stuck on shingle color due to fact we are going to change exterior siding and trim color in the spring. We narrowed the colors down to two, and he had houses in the area that had the specific color shingle we were trying to decide between. Made it much easier than just looking at the small samples. Once we picked Thompson Roofing, Norm kept us apprised of the schedule. We mutually agreed on the project dates. On the morning of, his crew arrived early and was ready to go. Norm was also on-site, ensuring everything was in place and made sure our expectations were being met. The crew worked very efficiently and effectively. Stopped for a short lunch break and they were back on the roof. They worked straight through and finished as the sun was beginning to set. Thoroughly cleaned our property so one would ever know they had been there. Only after the job was completed to our satisfaction did the payment come up. Not once did he ever ask for anything up front. He puts his trust in his customers, which is commendable. My wife asked him if he provided a discount for paying in cash. He was responsive to my concerns re my previous gutters (mismatched colors, undersized downspouts, clogging, leaking, and continual upkeep). The owner saw that I needed a solution to an area where there was only one downspout for two levels of my roof, and added another downspout (one for upper; one for lower) and routed one downspout in another direction, per my request not to flood out my lower lying neighbor as previous). He was responsive to helping me attach loose pieces of vinyl on my siding and he had his crew even caulking and painting some trim for no extra charge to make sure my house is waterproof. When they came out to install everything, there were 8 men in the crew and the owner, and they were in and out, in 3 hours, with zero mess left behind. They even took a magnetic roller over my yard to make sure no loose nails were left. His crew made sure everything I wanted had been completed before leaving. They even did extras that I had never seen before like adding aluminium guards in particular areas like around the chimney to make sure the water is directed off the house. All in all, I'm very impressed! They definitely go above and beyond and there was no bill, until every last thing was done, and the owner returned and reinspected the job. When I gave the owner the payment, he went over each part of the gutter system to explain how it works and put in writing a workmanship guarantee of one year, and 20 years for parts. He told me to call if I wanted anything changed, since I had made a change to his original plan in one area. He was very flexible about telling me, if I wanted it to his original specs, just call and they'd change it. I'm excited about how beautiful my new functional gutters look on my home!!
