Kezar Pavilion is perhaps the oldest basketball arena in San Francisco. Built in the mid 1920s, it…read moreis situated in the southeast corner of Golden Gate Park, next to the namesake stadium. The pavilion is the former home of the University of San Francisco Dons and Santa Clara Broncos. It is also the current home of the San Francisco Summer League Pro-Am, a basketball league for professional and college players of both genders. The style of the building is classic. The intimate and rustic feel remains intact despite having gone through several renovations through the years. Except for working bathrooms, modern arena amenities are totally absent here. For parking, there is an adjacent pay lot and street spots are also available nearby. Don't come hungry because food options are rather limited around the neighborhood. The aforementioned Pro-Am league is definitely worth checking out. Games are played at 8 pm Monday to Thursday from June to August. I believe admission is still free. Every year, the league attracts a number of college players, as well as seasoned pros. If you are lucky, you will see some big names playing here (Steph Curry, Gary Payton, and Jason Kidd have all played in this league). I have officiated in multiple NBA/major college arenas but Kezar is special. I couldn't have asked for a better end to my career when I worked my last game here on 03/03/2020 (a CA state high school playoff game), just days before the statewide COVID lockdown. The way it finished was just how I wanted it to be - a buzzer-beating game winner right in front of me. No replay needed. I got the call right. Kezar Pavilion is a great place to check out if you are a basketball fan. For me, it will forever have a special place in my heart.

I recently visited with a friend from Texas who had heard great things about the park and couldn't resist seeing it for himself. He was thoroughly impressed by the positive and healthy lifestyle activities taking place there. People of all ages were engaged in various activities, including soccer, volleyball, jogging, and even a dance party. Some individuals were participating in a meditation circle, promoting mindfulness and relaxation. My friend was particularly drawn to the emphasis on health and fitness in this park, which he believes contributes to California's healthier environment compared to Texas. After visiting Dolores Park, my friend expressed a strong desire to move to San Francisco. He was captivated by the idea of living in a place where people prioritize their physical well-being alongside socializing. He envisioned a lifestyle where everyone values their health and fitness, making it easier to maintain a balanced and fulfilling life. While I had visited Dolores Park once for an event, it was a truly enjoyable experience. I came without any specific agenda and simply relaxed on a bench, engaging in conversations with friends. We talked about life, dreams, and the importance of connecting with one another. It was an uplifting and fun experience that left me feeling inspired and motivated.

It is high up, but not as high as my old street, Edgemar. We must've taken a different route, walking, a side street, and that's how we discovered it. We drove by here (only saw one person on the basketball court), and I wanted to see if it was here. Imagine my surprise! Seeing places from my childhood, just brings back memories. It gives me the warm fuzzies, seriously. I am so glad that this little gem is still here. I snapped a few pics. I sent them to my sister to see if she'd recognized it. And she did! But I could've sworn it was under a different name back then, though. A large tree providing a pretty view (the city is a pretty view too) actually, there are a few big trees here, a couple of green picnic tables, a basketball court, a red swing set, a small grassy area, a small children's playground, a couple of trash cans. Bordered by a chain link fence. If I lived here, I'd probably make this a regular spot. Since it's tucked away, not many people know about it, maybe just people in the immediate neighborhood (like a three street radius, maybe). There are posted signs, probably the hours of operation. One of them states, "No Parking Any Time." I tried checking in but it wasn't even on Yelp yet, so that's why it's me, who's adding it here.
