Came here to play pickleball with some friends. There are 6 courts. Most people were playing doubles. There's limited picnic table space so plan ahead if you're hosting a birthday party. There's an enclosed play structure and a large grass area. There's a public restroom available as well. Be prepared to walk up a big hill on your way back to the California 1 bus if you are taking public transportation. read more

I joined my friends for the first time here to play pickleball over the weekend. Parking in the area was fine, despite all the construction. I was surprised at how many people showed up to come play. I really liked how random people played with one another and nobody gave one another dirty looks for joining their game. It was a very cordial environment and it encouraged me to come play again. I'm not very athletic but playing helped release a lot of steam, so I am thinking of making it a regular hobby. However, there was a woman also going around with a petition to keep the courts free to the public as opposed to paying to reserve it. Highly recommend if you enjoy either pickleball or tennis. Went to the Presidio Wall Playground (PWG) for the first time to play Pickleball, the fastest growing sport in the US. Pickleball? Never heard of it. Well, it's that paddle, don't call it a racquet game that is played with a hard paddle, a whiffle type ball, and a court approximately half the size of a tennis court. That sport for old people? Well it's supposed to be easier on the knees that's why a lot of older people, ex-tennis people, like to play it but it's still fast paced enough to be exciting while also being a very social game. Thus a lot of people - not just old people are jumping into the sport. Ok, check it out on YT. The PWG has five tennis courts which are convertible to pickleball courts with portable rolling nets with wheel locks. The court surfaces are clean, provide good traction and lines are painted for both pickleball and tennis. The tennis (3) courts in the back were in use as pickleball courts (6) the day I went with players putting down paddles near the net for the next game. There was a good range of players from 2.5 to 4.0 that mid day and It was easy to find a skill level to paddle up with. The nets may be a little saggy in the middle since they're not permanent but hey, they're pretty close to reg height. I had a lot of fun playing pick-up games with the people there, loved the beautiful park, noted the top of the GG Bridge is visible beyond the trees and figured out that there can be a slight breeze from the Bay, thus know when the wind is behind or against you when playing. Yeah, I'm pretty observant. Parking is limited with both residential and Pacific Avenue Presidio dirt road parking. Watch for parking signs as there are enforced time limits. read more

I hadn't been to this park in the Presidio. It's not easy to drive by. It's tucked in the park and overlooks some of the red tiled buildings. There's tennis courts and today we played tennis. We had to fight the pickleball players. There's a basketball court as well. Pretty good tennis spot in the Presidio. read more

Pretty much everything you'd want in a children's playground.. Sunny and shade areas, good climbing equipment, a gated playground, swings and a soccer field plus it's not too crowded. The distant view of the GG Bridge isn't shabby, either. I reserve giving JK Playground 5 stars because I didn't check out their restrooms however other reviews claim they're clean. Hidden gem of a park/playground on the edge of the Presidio. Two of the tennis courts have unfortunate cracks in them, but the others are fine. I don't think most people are even aware this place exists, so you're pretty much guaranteed a free tennis court even when the weather is good. Julius Kahn is also a favorite for local birthdays, there are bouncy houses nearly every weekend and the playground is also frequently packed with kiddos. You'll also find a baseball field and a basketball court and chances are you won't have to wait to use them either. read more

I don't understand why people keep comparing this place to the Jardin du Luxembourg, or suggesting that it is French. I have been to France, I have been to the Jardin du Luxembourg, and I didn't see it at all. The comparison is also a shame, because it is a very nice playground in its own right. It's got lots of different pieces of equipment with different uses, accommodating children of many ages. It has both sand and rubberized surfaces and seems relatively safe, as playgrounds go. And the setting is not Parisian; it is marked by a dramatic ridge of trees in one direction, and a deep slope giving way to views of fog banks or maybe the city on an unusually clear day. It is in fact the essence of San Francisco, and reminded me repeatedly of how much I loved the city. We spent several hours here; it's a great stop for a trip to the Presidio, and it ain't Paris. read more

Well, we went back after the big Golden Gate Bridge 75th Birthday outing, this time with my hunny. I won't repeat what I wrote two years ago. It was a different vibe this time, no parties happening now and fewer kids. The kids were all well behaved, and my almost-kindergartener made three more friends. I was struck, though, by the different equipment here: the Christmas tree-like merry-go-round, the flying saucer-like swings, the see-saw for three people, the rope contraption that you climb on. There's also a more traditional structure in a sandbox. These, along with the Presidio Heights neighborhood just over the stone wall, make for a good outing for your little ones if they need to blow off some steam while in The City. Koret Children's Playground gets a lot of the attention, and it should, but this place should not be passed up. read more

This is a nice playground, nicer still on a sunny day. The play equipment is new-ish. They have sand, which is a plus for the kids, but a minus for parents who have to deal with sand in hair and shoes later. The setting is really nice. It is on a hill on the edge of the Presidio, so you see trees and even a glimpse of the GGB on clear days. (Although on cloudy days, you just see clouds, and it can get quite cold and windy.) There is some street parking that is within the Presidio, so it's not bad compared to the parking situtation outside the gates. read more

The playground of all playgrounds. The setting makes you feel like an actor in a romantic comedy, scenic and charming. You can see the GGB on a clear day along with all the beautiful trees in the Presidio. New equipment for all ages. Giant baseball/soccer field that always seems to be open on the weekends with a minimum of seven labradoodles running around (all different owners of course!). Basketball and tennis courts too! My daughter loves this park. I love any place she loves where there is easy parking. Bring a picnic, well behaved child (or children) outfitted in Patagonia plus a purebred dog and you'll fit right in. read more

Julius Kahn Park is a tidy, green little playground in the Presidio that was refurbished and upgraded within the last ten years or so. It includes a play area with the sculpted soft surface top, swings, several climbing structures, a nearby grassy field, public restrooms (!), a small SF recreation facility (most of these are for rent through City Parks) and benches for sitting. Nearby there is a short hiking trail to Inspiration Point, where you'll find amazing views through the Presidio and directly down on the Palace of the Fine Arts. Especially those with kids appreciate a picturesque uncrowded public park with a clean restroom because it means you can stay, play and picnic. Here at JK, you can park free along the side of the road (3 hour parking). The setting has a secluded feeling: you are surrounded by trees, hills and nature. Its always a fun surprise to discover something new in San Francisco that's been here the whole time. read more

First off don't go by the address on here, it's wrong!!! MAPLE Is a dead end with no access to West Pacific Avenue. I should have known better with all the accessible parking on Maple. The closest opening is on Spruce!!! Anyhow after finding parking and the opening to get to the playground, I let the kids loose. It was rather crowded today with 2 groups, one school and one summer camp program, but still lots of play space to take advantage of. We've been to a different park nearly everyday this week and I doubt we'd come out of our way to hit up this park (we just happened to be in the area, killing time while mom was at a Dr's appt). It is another updated playground with half on the rubber top and the other half in sand. Basketball court and tennis court nearby, as well as a field and some walking trails. There's also a hall but I'm not sure if it's available for rent. Lots of lush and pretty landscaping. read more

If you're owned by a person under 4 years old (haha, I'm a Papa), then this hilltop park/playground is one of the best places in SF to chill out to the insane view of the park and GG bridge (fog is surprisingly permitting before 4pm, april-sept) while your progeny lose their minds in the panoply of slides, swings, sand, and misc climbing contraptions for 5000 kinds of play. Afterwards, if they're not tired out, the basketball and tennis courts provide additional room to air it out. Bonus points for the CLEAN toilets (esp. for toddler toilet training), water fountain and tons of benches! 5 Stars! read more

You might be asking yourself, "Why is an adult male writing a review of a playground? Isn't that kind of creepy?" Well, yes. As I began typing this I realized how this could be construed as a bit odd, but here you go. I was raised on this park. Rory's Adventure Camps, Viking Soccer, random birthday parties for kids I was good friends with (and not so good of friends with). Once I grew up a bit more and got past the whole playground thing and after I regained vision from the time my brother stuck a sand covered stick into my eye in the dune behind the basketball court I returned with friends at night to drink forties and run from the park police. Oh the days of our youth. But those are days long gone. What gets me about this park now is that it has changed. I drove by it the other day thinking I would clamber up to the top of the old wood structure and slide down the stickiest slide in the world, but I was met with some freakish plastic spectacle, rock climbing wall and all. Where are the monkey bars that taught me the hard way about getting the air knocked out of you? What happened to the metal bar that "divided" the swing set from the rest of the playground but was really there to break the legs of kids who swung really high and jumped off? What has happened to the dangerous places of our childhood that miraculously never harmed us more than a scratch or scrape? Why did I write this review? Is it even a review? Okay, here you go: The basketball courts are good when there aren't a lot of people there who hog full court for three on three. The tennis courts are pretty sub par and the wait, in my experience, has been over an hour with people cutting you (yes, adults I find are much worse at cutting because when you call them out they glare and argue and want to really fight you over it). The parking situation is still dangerous as hell because you never really know when there is a small child running behind you. 3 stars for the memories. This place is pretty not so great anymore. read more

A very nice park in the Presidio. We were waiting for the crowds to die down at the Exploratorium, so we came here. Its nice coming to a park that is clean and not overrun with drunks and derelicts. The restrooms were clean, too. To get here, don't follow your GPS. It will put you on a residential street next to the park but you have to scale a small wall. Enter the Presidio from the gate and make a left down Pacific Av. On a Friday morning, it was full of Nanny's taking care of young rich kids. It was easy to tell when you would see the blond hair kids talking to their Hispanic nanny's in Spanish. Very cute and will be advantageous to them in their futures. The playground equipment is very nice and the soft cork floor makes it easy for kids to take a spill. There is also a lot of trails to do walks on. I saw a lot of people walking dogs. read more

It's a good playground with lots of stuff for a kid to do in a nice setting. I took our son here while wifey wanted to walk through the Disney museum. You will need to use you map app on your phone as even with it, we missed the turn off more than once. It's basically an odd frontage road in the Presidio on the other side of the old cool rock wall from a fancy neighborhood. Thankfully, for once, we didn't need to pay to park here, however, there was a two hour time limit. The road is narrow so be aware on oncoming traffic and pedestrians. This park is beautiful! The landscaping is eclectic with lots of flowers. There is also a Rec. Ball field next to the playground. The playground was cool. It had lots of physical activities for a kid to do. Our son loved the big triangular turnstile the most. The place is busy though as there is a little party building next to the playground so lots going in this little area. When in the area again, we will definitely take our son here again to blow some steam. read more

I liked this park even before they redid it. It's always lively and there's plenty for kids of all ages to do. My favorite thing to do is laugh at the moms who freak out when their kid wants to play in the wet sand and little fountain. Some people are so uptight about it--they're kids they get dirty--deal with it! I had been going to Mountain Lake Park since we moved here nearly a year ago because it's a bigger park with a lake. However, Mountain Lake gets a more eclectic mix of visitors. I once saw a man in a long trench coat walk through the playground, clearly looking out of place like a homeless child molester. Not saying he was, but he looked very disheveled and out of place. Mountain Lake is a cool park, too. However, Julius Kahn is two blocks away from us, much much closer. I hadn't been going there as much because coming home is a really steep hill that I don't look forward to. But I recently rediscovered it and I have to say it's better than Mountain Lake. The Clubhouse is a nice bonus for parents or toddlers to get out of the sun. The park is so clean and well-kept. The flooring is rubber is made of rubber. The swings are clean, my baby loves it. There are houses that look into the park so it feels safer to know that it's not secluded. Very well kept, clean, modern. I need to not be afraid of that hill. read more

First the backdrop for this playground is gorgeous, right in the middle of the Presidio trees. Then all the elements present in this playground send me back to childhood and make my imagination run, so imagine that of a child. My baby already enjoys their swings. This is a fantastic playground in the Presidio. Nice, clean play area. Beautiful setting... It can get a little crowded on the weekends, and even during the week depending on the time of day. It's not my favorite but, it is still a great place to take the kid. [My only concern is the dogs left off of the leash. I'm not anti-dog or anything but, when there are signs posted to keep your dog on a leash... I know there are dog parks in the City. Oh well. ] read more

Plenty of parking up the street on Saturdays. Cost $55 to book the field for a few hours for softball. Field needs some work - grass is long and has some bumps. First base line has no fence so if you overthrow it, kiss the ball goodbye! Also the right field fence is shallow, probably 225 feet or so and the ball will disappear there too if you hit it over. Lots of kids playing soccer on Saturdays so gotta be careful. read more

Great playground in the beautiful, historic Presidio. Lovely Rec Center, nice baseball field, great play structure. One star taken off for two safety reasons: First, the dangerous parking situation: if you park your car by the side of the road, you have to *hope* that the cars FLYING up and down this street will slow for pedestrians. There are no signs to tell people where to actually park, and it's a bit haphazard with people parking this way and that by the side of the road. Second, folks are pretty lax about closing the gates in the play area, which is especially dangerous because of the aforementioned cars flying up and down the hill. read more

Another great playground in the City. In the Presidio with fantastic views, playground itself is medium-sized, but near by tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer field, baseball diamond and walking paths make it highly diverse. There is also some great landscaping (exotic flowers) which are very well maintained. read more

We call this the "fancy playground." It has fancier things than any playground I ever went to when I was little. My sister actually stumbled upon this playground when she worked at an after school program and thought our nephew would love it. She was so right. They have two sections - one for toddlers and one for older kids. They have the usual play structure, swings, and sand. They also have this fountain type thing that has water come out when you push a button so you could gather water to make things with wet sand. The clubhouse is right outside the gated area and they leave a bunch of toys out for the kids to play with - the usual sand toys mostly. They also have this huge spinning thing with netting that my nephew absolutely loves - although he refuses to go on it if there are any other kids on it. He's still learning to play with other kids. We only go on Saturdays, but try to go early because it gets packed. Lots of parents like to throw birthday parties there. read more

As kristina l. pointed out, this is indeed one "fancy" playground. A great place to run the little ones into the ground. The two play areas (one for small children, one for big kids) have enough activities and structures to occupy and engage even the shortest attention spans for long periods of time. Children and Peter-Pan-Syndromers alike will be enchanted by the lush green surroundings and the vast options for play. There is also a great children's clubhouse sort of thing, where there are often activities going on for drop-in. On nice days, they even put out an impressive selection of musical instruments (xylophones, drums, bongos) that even I can't resist banging around on. The restroom facilities are superior to other parks and playgrounds in the city and there are basketball courts adjacent to the play ground where the cute boys shoot hoops (sometimes even shirtless...)! read more

Only 3 stars for now because they have no real play structures for crawling or just learning to walk. Frustrating because it looks like they would have the room for a small one by the baby swings. Hey, if Noe Court can squeeze all that stuff in, they could definitly get one small toddler play structure in this playground. Will be much more fun when my son is over 2 but for now, it's more for the big kids. read more
