I sat in the room until 8:35, then got up to ask a staff member how much longer it would be before the doctor would come in only to learn that he was not even there yet. I guess the staff was assuming I would just sit there for however long it took for him to arrive and not tell me a thing. Totally unprofessional in how that was handled. The reception staff were great and helpful; the nursing staff in the back, not at all. I did have some concerns for the doctor but I guess they wont get addressed since I wont be going back there. With my Nephrologist retiring at the end of the month I am not holding out a lot of hope for patient care. As a transplant patient, I deal mostly with VA Transplant at Henrico Doctor's Hospital, and their quality of care has gone down the crapper the past few years as well. If you live in the Central VA region I would suggest doing your due diligence before choosing either Richmond Nephrology or VA Transplant at HDH!

I am a new dialysis patient and I had a question about being able to take a certain medication. I…read morecalled the office 6 times over 2.5 weeks, left messages with my providers assistant and had zero callbacks. I finally called to talk to a nurse and was met with the most rude assistant I have ever dealt with. Instead of at least taking my question via a message to my physician, who writes all my orders and directs my dialysis, she tells me I have to go through the dialysis center. I have never seen my physician at my dialysis center. I asked that my question go through my physician and she refused. I asked why it didn't warrant her calling me back to at least let me know and she told me I didn't listen to her voicemail well enough. Absolutely terrible patient communication and relations.
