Thought I would give this local bakery a plug, I've had a few of their meat pies over the years and I find them quite good. I would rate them much better then some other big pie shop located between Brisbane and Gold Coast. read more

Let me start by saying I don't normally write reviews but my experience with Cakes Around Town…read moredeserves one. This is not meant to be a scathing review - it's an honest review of something which has happened and which I feel the public should be make aware of. Recently I ordered online from Cakes Around Town and patiently waited for my order to arrive (2 weeks wait) before contacting them to enquire about the status of my order (I thought they were busy because it was their big sale event). They told me rudely over the phone that my order has been cancelled which I was NOT informed of and when I asked why the order was suddenly cancelled when all the products were still available as per their website. They had NO justifiable reply just said the order cant be fulfilled and hang up the phone abruptly. This is truly unacceptable customer service to cancel customers orders for no apparent reason and without letting them know (later I came to know they cancelled my order because I left them a negative review on Facebook - more on that below). No apology was given for their own mistake! I had to reorder after 2 weeks of waiting and missed out on one item on sale which it was already sold out when I had to reorder. When I asked to speak to their boss they gave me excuses such as he/she is not in town and for me to leave an email feedback (which they don't respond to!). The weirdest part for me was how I was told by their staff that they blacklist unhappy customers who write negative reviews about them on Facebook. This, to me, is ridiculous and sadly says a lot about the values/honesty of the business. Since my review on Facebook my account/subscription with them has been deactivated without my knowledge. Very disappointing when all I wanted to do was to support local business and that's how their customers are treated. UPDATE The owner of Cakes Around Town FINALLY got back to me after over 3 months wait. Long story short, the owner was argumentative and sarcastic and was as disrespectful as the staff I spoke to regarding my cancelled order. As before, no apology whatsoever was given for the mistake they made. Up until now they are still unable (and unwilling) to provide full evidence to adequately justify their claim that I was alerted of my cancelled order by their system. The owner also slammed me MULTIPLE times over the phone for writing a very bad review for them and said because of my review she had to fire the staff who originally spoke to me. Why should I be responsible for her own decision to fire her staff? Then you question why she fired her staff - she obviously knows the staff's conduct was inappropriate. Its beyond my comprehension why their customers are not allowed to write honest reviews so people are made aware of (serious) problems within this company - isn't that what reviews are for anyway? It's obvious they are only after the 5 star reviews and silence those who rate them less. Shouldn't all customer voices be heard, respected and built upon to improve your business? Like someone else below who left a 'nasty' honest review on Google she also told me to go shop somewhere else and offered suggestions which I already knew. So much for 'excellent' customer service, Cakes Around Town. Go shop somewhere else where customers are cared for, spoke to politely and valued.

This bakery has caught traction mainly due to their delicious banh mi's and cream filled donuts !…read more They only sell one type of banh mi but it's pretty damn good. Everything is in perfect ratio - it's a normal cold cut banh mi which carries balance in the mayo and pate, the meat and the coriander, cucumber and pickled carrot and radish. One bite of this banh mi & you'll become impressed especially with their tiger bread they use - it's so good. Now their donuts are ones to try ! They're not only appealing and cute they also have different flavors with a special flavor they change on a regular basis. It's light and fluffy and not too sweet which makes you eat more. Just keep in mind, they do not have the normal texture as a cake would. It's more like a sweet bread if anything maybe closer to choice pastry? Surprisingly enough....I found them more tastier and flavorful the next day in the fridge rather than buying them outright? I feel because the donuts had more time to have the cream inside it that it really infused in lol. I didn't like them as much until I had them the next morning. All of them were tasty but the coffee, black sesame and mango flavor were my favorites! I'm sad that I missed out on their matcha flavor! Another beautiful thing about this place is that they are also a little cafe that does viet coffee. This is hands down the best viet coffee I've had to date. It's strong and has just the right sweetness. It's thick and not watered down. It's the only place I've found here in Brisbane that does it right. The only issue I have is they put too much ice and not enough coffee, so next time I'll ask for no

Not only do they have a wide variety of bread options and sweet baked treats, they usually have a discount table towards the afternoon. You can find all sorts of baked goods on the table as it varies from day to day. Many times I've picked up their scones at half price or sometimes even more than half price. I have taken home bags of cookies at a fraction of the cost or loaves of bread heavily discounted. When I am planning on having guest over in the afternoon, I duck out quickly to see the specials. I know, sounds a bit sad, but it is a part of my grocery run and they do have hard to resist specials a lot of the time. Clearly, I get bread here a lot! The service here is wonderful. The ladies behind the counter are very patient with me. I like to take my time in choosing my cakes and baked goodies. I like planning on when and what I will be consuming during the week. Sometimes they might even pop in a suggestion- I think it may be a ploy to rush me, but I still very much appreciate it. Great little bakery in Jindalee with great value for money options.

The cafe is clean, very German feeling (I've never been to Germany, but I have a vivid imagination), and might I say should change its name to King of Pies. As you walk past the tables outside and the hat stand with newspapers (including German), the entrance presents itself to you with pies. There is a very classic pie list of plain steak, chicken and bacon pies, but my personal favourite at $5 is the Steak and Mushroom. The pie gives you no crap (literally) and is packed full of flavour with tender pieces of mouth watering steak and stewed mushrooms, you won't be disappointed. The crust is non-flakey and crispy and the pies are hot... I am a big fan and sometimes, find myself craving one... particularly from this bakery (it does not help that it is also on the way to work). Walking in a little bit more you can see the devilishly delightful window of assortments of pastries and cakes. Also delicious and very neatly spread out. In the fridge next to the pies you will find German jams and other assortments of German accompaniments and in the fridge next to the cashier on the far inner corner your drinks. There is seating on the inside too, but it is a nice change from the usual streetside cafe. This cafe is clean (sorry for repeating, but it's true) and cool and the cakes, pies and other tasty treats are fresh, gourmet and so Yelpingly tasty. I don't often offer my four stars to bakeries, but this one is my personal favourite. PS. All sandwiches are on Turkish bread - my personal favourite - Turkey and Cranberry. Don't buy the pies until after 7am... they are nice and hot then.

The establishment relatively recently came under new management. It was previously one of West End's numerous Vietnamese bakeries, and while it remains a bakery the new owners seem to be going for more of an up-market French boulangerie vibe. I ordered a filled baguette and a takeaway Di Bella coffee. The delivery of the baguette was instantaneous and while I waited for my coffee I didn't stand on ceremony, biting into the baguette and assessing their work. The bread itself was quite good, with a slight glaze to the crust and a pleasantly chewy inner. The toppings - chicken and avocado - fairly well-executed for a simple combination. The coffee however took too long to arrive, causing me concern about whether I'd be late for my appointment. What should for an experienced barista take 1-2 minutes tops took more like 4-5. Even worse, when the coffee arrived, it was insipid and milky, leading me to think the maker either didn't dose enough coffee into the group-head or used an insufficient one-shot for the large cup. Either way, it was a deflating first coffee for the day. The price also seemed a bit excessive at close to $12 for the coffee and baguette. Considering I could get a tasty roll significantly cheaper at one of the several Vietnamese bakeries in the neighbourhood, if I go back here it will probably be to buy bread for home use.
