After a friend drove by this place and of course my first time in Bradenton, I quickly asked for a u-turn so that I could explore it. So there are three types of chocolate in my book here: jellies, creams and solids. I had the key lime pie cream. Really enjoyed it, should have picked the dark chocolate to balance the sweet. Service is super friendly. No samples here that I saw but I feel that every choice should be a good one. There are premade designs and you can also custom order. If you haven't tried Richey's Chocolates you might need to turn in your chocoholic card...This place is wonderful! You know from the minute you walk in the door and smell that homemade chocolate smell that this place is the real deal. My mom got a big box of beautifully decorated creme eggs to give as a gift. They almost looks too pretty to eat- but after I tasted the chocolate bunny she bought for me I think I should not be left alone with the eggs or the recipient of the box might find it empty! My aunt got some cordial cherries, which she shared- and they were amazing! Oh, and the two young ladies working the counter were delightful- pleasant, polite, and very helpful! Life is too short to eat mediocre chocolate, so thank goodness for Richey's Chocolate! read more

Since my children were very young I used to stop at Richie's chocolate after work and I would get them all kinds of chocolates they loved them because they were different shapes my daughter's got flowers bugs what have you my son would get alligators and sharks shape chocolates it has been a family tradition . Now that my children are older young adults my daughter the other day went there for my birthday and she said she had an awful experience because the lady behind the counter was so rude all she wanted was my birthday chocolates put in a box the lady said because she only had two she could not do that . My husband bought me a box of truffles from Richey's for Christmas. I was not familiar with this store previously. They are the best truffles I've ever had! Every single one has been amazing. We stopped in to support local business and needed some chocolates. I left pretty disappointed. The selection wasn't that great and quite limited. The chocolates come in little boxes by the pound, but no one ever actually weighed them. Instead they just eyeballed each one and told me about how many chocolates each box fits. I found this strange since some then were filled more than others since they were packed by different employees. The amount allowed in each box also kept changing as we filled; it was a very awkward interaction. I asked to add a couple of the sugar free chocolates to one, but they wouldn't let me even though the prices are exactly the same! They said I had to get a separate box of only sugar free. This was a personal box for myself, why couldn't I have a few sugar free chocolates if I was in the mood? What a let down this place was. I don't think we'll be back anytime soon. read more

We went to Richey's a few days ago. The selection of chocolates was incredible! However, the woman working there (owner?) was VERY abrupt and rude! As we were questioning the chocolates with NO ONE else in the store, she was short with us and acted like we were wasting her valuable time. My son was purchasing chocolates for his girlfriend up in NY state and my friend and I also purchased chocolates. We almost walked out of the store but my son was determined to buy something before he headed back by plane. I was very disappointed that someone would treat a customer like that! Even though we enjoyed the chocolates we will not be returning to that store. read more

In February you can have Richey's put together a chocolate selection in a beautiful Valentine's Day heart-shaped box your wife will never forget! April at Richey's is also a "must see". All of the brightly decorated Easter eggs come in a multitude of sizes and flavors that are perfect for the grandkids' baskets (they're great for grand parents too). This is a first rate candy store. I love their butter brickle (I can't recall exactly the name)...you know the crispy flat planks of buttery crunch covered either in dark, milk or white chocolate. It is excellent...just the right crunch without being too hard. Their candy is consistently good.and fresh tasting. Their coconut bon bons are dreamyl I especially like them covered in white chocolate. The amount of coconut to chocolate is perfect and the hand swirled covering of white chocolate is beautiful. They were out of coconut recently and offered to call me when it came in so that they would be making the bon bons.
