When i first bought my cinema system they drew diagrams and images on how to connect what to what using specific cables etc. The items i bought are top quality and have lasted and lasted. Even though technology has changed the setup i have still delivers great results and I cannot give them enough praise. Well worth visiting if before you were like me and didn't have a clue. As such, I'm more of a Richer Sounds kind of guy, but if you want to hear true audio bliss (and if you have the money, believe me... you do) then Audio T may well be the best Brighton has to offer. This decent sized store has that layout that exudes style, with a couple of sofas set out at the back of the shop separated by a wall for you to experience the true audio bliss that you can achieve from some of the finest combinations of amplifiers, speakers and record players. One set of speakers (without the rest of the fancy gear needed) broke £6,000... Although there are plenty on the sub £1,000 side of things, this should give you an idea of the kind of clientèle that Audio T hope to attract. The elitest price point does carry several other benefits, with the store owners personally testing the equipment in front of you to ensure that the model you take away satisfies both yours and their sets of ears. Despite this, I'd still say the store is working on the expensive side of the spectrum by a looong way, but when your chucking around this kind of cash, you're buying a lifestyle and bragging rights as much as anything else.

There's a collection of CDs to peruse too, but the real focus is the wealth of records to flick through. I found a fair few rarities here, and although I don't have a Vinyl player at uni, picked them up to display on my wall. Joy Division's "Love Will Tear us Apart" and Kitchens of Distinction's "Quick as Rainbows" both tempted me, and I raked the last few pence out of my wallet so that I could take 'em home with me for a meagre £6.50. Seeing that it was all the money that I had left, the cashier was nice enough to let me off the 50p in case I needed it in an emergency! Now I'm no lightning calculator, but I could see I was already getting a deal as it was, and to get a considerable percentage off on top from the kindness of a strangers heart just sweetened the deal. From now on, I have two music shops in my life. Resident for CD's, and Monkey Music for Vinyl. Simple as

When you step inside you quickly become aware of how small the store is; there are records along every wall, with an island of CD's in the middle of the living room sized shop. In terms of selection, I was massively surprised by what was on offer. I found 3 Pixies 12' vinyls, all in top condition, all costing £6 each. Obscure bands of the 90's like Sonic Youth, or dead musicians from the 60's like James Brown are all immortalised in record form within the emporium. I don't think there is a thing that could be said against Monkey music emporium, certainly not from a music lover's perspective. The range of records on offer makes it so easy just to waste time flicking through row after row, waiting to see what you'll discover.

The range is great, they always have good offers, the service is excellent and the staff really know their stuff. I'd previously had to buy all my stuff from the London Bridge or Bloomsbury branches and then get it all back down. I found it amusing that they set up this branch about three doors down from the much more expensive Sevenoaks Hi-Fi, which you would only want to visit if you were seriously minted. About the only thing they don't really do is iPods, but if you're looking for CD players, amps, DVD players, speakers, TVs, headphones, racks etc, give Currys a miss and go here instead.
