Went to purchase lighting for my estate home entry brick columns. My husband and I we're told that someone would assist us. We spent 25 minutes looking at the options and no one came to assist. I understand that their options are exceptional, with exceptional prices. I was looking for exceptional, with price not being a factor. I can only assume, that as a person of color they thought we could not afford the lighting or didn't choose to bother with us. They were done once we entered the building. The showroom had 7 to 8 employees and no customers, so one can only assume the later. As we were leaving the building, another woman of color almost had to beg for assistance, as we witnessed a white women was carrying boxes out to another women's car. I would never recommend spending my money where I'm not even recognized. I drove across town to in-line who appreciated and recognized me and my money. In-line staff was so much nicer and willing to assist. Of course, I purchased two post lights at $ 450.00 each. I guess Richard's lighting wasn't interested in my money. read more

I came into the store to purchases additional lighting for my home. My wife and I recently purchased some bathroom lights and were pleased with the transaction and the customer service. This time was different and disappointing. We were approached by a female sales associated who I can only say reacting as if she didn't want us in the store. Why she even approached us is hard for me to reconcile because she clearly wasn't interested in serving us. She was very cold and dismissive to us and really unwilling to spend much time helping us. She made offensive statements like when I asked about something that I was interesting in seeing, she told me the price as if it was a deterrent and I eventually just said well we will just go somewhere else, she recommended that we might want to look at habitat for humanity. No Ma'am, I have a Doctorate Degree, a black card, and a 5400 square foot custom home. You go to Habitat. I did speak with the owner about this employee but was so convinced that this has to be the culture that I knew I had to share my experience. I have lived in Huntsville Alabama for more than 30 years and although I wont return to this store, I'm saddened at the thought that others might. Richards you have to do better. read more

Totally unimpressed. I just walked in there cruised around the entire store and not one of the four women I saw either acknowledged me or asked to help me. One did tell me to have a good day as I walked out. What a Julia Roberts Moment in Pretty Woman. Apparently if you're not dressed to the nines you are not welcome. Looking for light fixtures? This is the place to come. I have gotten all my light fixtures here for the past three home I have built. You won't believe how much stuff they have on display. Reflecting back, I now realize how light fixtures are like clothing fashions, they change over years. Richard lighting has both the the traditional and what's trending in lighting fixtures, so my new house looks like it was built today and not in the 70s, unless I wanted it that way. Rachel went out of her way to help me. She was able to match older lights that I own, which makes me happy because I like the style I have and don't have to replace them. She was so sweet. Every time I've been to Richard's over the past few years they've been really nice. If they do cost a little more I don't mind because I'm supporting a local business instead of a mammoth company. read more

Obviously this store depends on people who don't care about price. I've lived here my entire life and that's the reputation I have always heard by word of mouth. Today was the first time I've visited the store looking for a ceiling fan trying to buy local instead of online. First, the fan was $396 but on sale for 20% off, $316 before tax. A quick check online revealed the price is $274 with free shipping, not even on sale. At $274 I'm sure they are still making a decent profit, even offering free shipping. I asked the sale associate if they would match the price, she went to ask the owner and came back with a definitely not, probably couldn't stand the thought of making less than 125%. No wonder many stores go out of business because of online prices, greed. read more

Walked in and was asked what I was looking for. I said, "lamp shades" and the girl told another associate to another associate " show her the lamp shades" and was done with me. Apparently I wasn't going to spend enough and so she was not interested in helping me. Won't be going back in the next century. read more

Richard's lighting is a full stop shop, I have purchased from them over 15 years now. They are familiar with unusual light applications and will research fixtures with persistence. They keep track of all your purchases, so you can replace broken parts and match other fixtures in your home. And , frankly, they have the service and inventory of any larger city like Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans, or Nashville. In Huntsville, it is uncommon for our regional businesses to offer this level of service. They will sell you a light bulb or a lamp shade, but that is not their specialty.
