I love the idea of recycling & Richard's gets it done for me at my place of employment. This company, one of two, service the area where I am employed & I find that they do a good job picking up the trash & recyclables. I've had to call to remind once or twice in the beginning when we first started to recycle, but since then, they've been on it... Doing a great job. Mr Clayton, Ms Troy, Ms Linda (I think that's the other dispatcher's name) do a wonderful job picking up our trash & recyclables. If I have to call in, Mr Clayton is sure to follow-up to ensure the job is completed properly. read more

I gave one star here because there is no half star. My trash pickup was scheduled for Saturday so I put my trash can out to the curb on Friday night. Saturday morning the Richard's truck goes up my street but instead of picking up the trash on one side of the street like they've done for years the driver decided to get in the turn lane and have his workers pickup on both sides of the street. But sure enough they bypass my house and do not pick up my trash. So I called their phone number and after a few tries ( their phone rings 4 times and then ends the call ) I finally get someone to answer. I told her about the missed pick up and she says she will look at the truck's GPS and return my call. I never heard back from her and my trash never got picked up. This is totally unacceptable. How the heck do the workers not see my trash can at the curb? Plus this is not the first time this has happened. Our rates keep going up yet their service gets worse. Picking up trash is not rocket science, there is no excuse for missing a resident's trash pick up. I also wonder if I'm the only one this has happened to, I'm willing to bet there have been many others. It sure seems like after getting their big contract from the city, there is no concern to provide quality service. They have their money and now they let the chips fall where they may. Maybe our city council should reconsider who to hire next time their contract runs out. Again, there is NO excuse for missing a residents curbside pick up. read more

We have been struggling with refuse pick-up for well over a year now. The management at this company is unprofessional and I suspect the company is very poorly capitalized. Trash is rarely picked up anymore with any consistency. Scheduled pick up has been reduce by 50%. The front office doesn't even bother to answer the phone any longer. read more

One of two subcontracts for city trash removal. If their number is on your city issued trashcan then they're your contract. The garbageman takes all of our cans (and sometimes we have a lot) and don't leave trash in the street...such an improvement post-K. And the one time they missed our entire block, I called and trash was picked up the next morning. read more

Before COVID, we had 2 pickups a week which we paid for on our sanitation bill. Trash was skipped, missed or just not picked up. Couldnt get a garbage can fixed for 8 months so I placed an order for a new one. Had to call 311/Richards for 4 weeks before it came out. Now, post-COVID, they've gone down to 1 pick up a week, while we still pay for 2. AND...they don't even come on our scheduled days. On a daily basis, we are not picked up for days after. Scheduled for Thursday pickup but they may pick it up Saturday? We never know. Garbage bins are gross and we like to keep our street clean but are forced to leave them at the street because we don't know when Richards will decide to show up. We pay for 2 pickups and barely receive one. read more

Update they are doing much better now righteous people give credit when it's due.I wouldn't have posted the review at all but the young girl who answered was so rude and unconcerned.I see her attitude over the phone I left a message for a call back I didn't get that. I guess they were worried about if they needed to replace the trash can I know Jackson is pretty ridiculous but they got the message. read more

I've lived in 7 cities. I love New Orleans. But Richard's Disposal is THE WORST trash and recycling company ever. Just these last 3 weeks they have failed to pick up recycling in my neighborhood, and when I call customer service and ask for pick up (which I have done twice each week), I'm told they will let the supervisor know. Yet nothing has happened. But they still expect to be paid in full. read more

Just try getting your broken can replaced. It will never happen - we tried everything- call multiple times it's been over a year. We've even offered to go pick it up ourselves and they say that can't be done. read more

I have a commercial contract and have not been getting my serviced picked up based on the contract in place. No one ever answers the phone.

They never answer the phone. The garbage cans are always breaking and then they want to charge you.... Have you ever watched the garbage men handle the cans?? They throw and toss them so it's obviously damaging our cans. read more

Still no pick up and terrible attitude from the workers on the customer service line at Richard's. They're ill-informed, rude and they will tell you whatever you want to hear just to get you off the phone whether it's the truth or not. Don't bother calling Richard's phone line. You'll get nonsense and you'll be treated like crap. Just call 311. By the way per one of the customer service reps at Richards they will only be picking up once a week. I can guarantee you they will probably be charging us twice a week despite the change in service. This is a horrible company with horrible employees. read more

Pickup days for the trash are Wednesdays and Saturdays in my part of town. For some unknown reason my trash was not collected as the rest of my neighbors were on Wednesday. I called Richard's Disposal and was informed that it will be collected later that day. A second call in the late afternoon was made and this time I was told the crew that collects from trash bins missed work until 8:00pm. And so the trash bin was left in the usual spot next to my driveway on the street. Thursday a third called was place and again I was told my complaint would be handled. Thursday night my fourth call after business hours was made. This time I listened to a recording that informed me of their hours of operation and that I could leave a message on their voice mail. I attempted to do just that but the voice mail box was full. Probably with all the other paying citizens attempting to get their trash properly and timely removed from the street. Now it is Friday and it is the day I normally put out the trash bin for pickup on Saturday. To call this business today would be like spitting into a hurricane. If you have the choice of dealing with their customer service or talking to a wall save your time and effort and talk to the wall. Your name and address are taken and nothing happens. Is this any way to run a business? In New Orleans when you have a multi million dollar government contract it appears so. read more

Do you have a nice car parked on the street? You won't after Richard's Disposal is done with it. They have an exclusive contract with the city and it shows because the employees truly don't care. I moved from Portland a year ago with no scuffs on my front bumper. After a year with this company, my whole front bumper is scuffed because they drag the trash cans across my it. Every morning after trash pickup I'd come out to find more scuffs. Then one day I came out to find a trash can literally wedged between my front bumper and the car in front of me. There was a large gap 3 feet further down, but that would've been too much work apparently. This is perfectly acceptable for Richard's Disposal. Why would they do this? I'll tell you one reason. One day they were picking up trash while I was outside. The employee was talking on his cellphone the whole time while tossing cans recklessly without a care in the world. I called Richard's Disposal to voice the complaints mentioned above and they said they'd have a manager for my route call me within the hour. No call all day, but I did receive a new trash can (probably someone else's that never arrived for them) that I never asked for. I'd say stay far away, but they're the only game in town when it comes to trash service and it definitely shows. If you're having problems with them as well, I'd suggest reporting them to the Better Business Bureau in the hopes that they lose their contract in the future. worst company ever, never take calls, only come 1/2 the time even though paid for full, never dropped off cans three months later

This company is an UTTER DISASTER. Unprofessional, inept and outright LAZY. After DOUBLING the cost of trash pick-up, Orleans parish has been reduced to one trash pick-up per week. The drivers and garbage men have no oomph, drive or desire whatsoever to do their jobs. They pick up what they want, and in most cases, if it's in a green garbage, they simply WILL NOT pick up the trash. I am constantly calling the supervisor Clayton to make him aware of the situation. This morning I took the liberty of video taping the negligence on my street. When I asked the garbage men why they didn't pick up my neighbors trash, I was told "BECAUSE Y'ALL ARE NOT TIPPING US". These lazy individuals are going to be the reason that Richard's Disposal looses its contract, and I can't wait for that day to come. I say to the so called city leaders. Pay Sydney Torres. He was most definitely getting the job done. This city is embarrassing and has an excuse for just about EVERYTHING. read more

If arbitrary policy paired with spurious decision-making is your game then these guys are for you! On a Friday morning I placed in cans some yard debris (branch clippings, cut down to manageable sizes), and my cans were passed over for pick up. When I called to complain the conversation went like so: 1) Was I using my own cans or theirs? Theirs 2) How could I use 4 cans? I live in a 4plex. But is it like that on the tax assessor? Yes 3) Yard debris? OH!!! It's yard debris WELLL that has to be bundled and in no more than 6 bundles (no definition provided of what dimension a bundle might be) 4) So if I bundle my yard debris RIGHT NOW they'll come back to retrieve it? No, you have to wait another entire week 5) And because I have 4 bills I can pile 24 bundles right because 4 x 6 = 24, yes? (LONG PAUSE and begrudging) yes The tolerated behavior of this 'service' is beyond ridiculous. They are paid whether they do a job - whether it's their job or not - and we get to jump through policy hoops to package refuse to their specifications IT'S GARBAGE, IT'S IN YOUR CAN, PICK IT UP!!! Engage the tiny minds of bureaucracy all you want; you will never win. And you will still be forced to pay them to not do their job. read more

I've never had so many issues with a trash service before. You'd think it'd be simple, leave the trash in a bag, put it in the can and leave the can at the curb right? NOPE! More often then not they skip my can which makes us miss a trash day. So I call them and they're all we'll get it on the next trash day! Which would be fine except they'll only pick up what is actually in the can and now it doesn't all fit. So I'll have to wait for the next bulky trash day to get it all picked up which then sure enough they skip my can again! So so tired of this shit. Just pick up the trash already! I never thought I'd say this but I miss when trash pickup was city-run. read more

I called 3 times on Friday because there is a HUGE gash in our car from the recycle truck which comes on Fridays. In addition there was recycling all over the street. We are at Audubon & Green St. but our car was parked on Audubon St. There was a white Audi directly across from our car that was parked a foot away from the curb but their car was untouched. Ours however is scraped along the entire driver side. I was told a supervisor would come out to see it. That never happened. Then I was told the supervisor would call me back and that never happened either. read more

Generally reliable on trash pickup in my neighborhood. But I've got a dead animal in the road outside my house. I reported it to the City early Friday morning and they said they would call Richard's to remove it. Well, of course the average City Hall employee is dedicated to her lunch break and her pension, and to making sure New Orleans stays at the bottom of the list of great places to live. So that didn't happen. But repeated calls to Richard's produced promises that somebody would be told. The animal is still decaying in the summer heat in a public New Orleans street. So that's not working well. read more

SHAME SHAME SHAME. I have not had trash picked up from my house SINCE I BOUGHT IT. It's August 4th today and I bought my house on July 5th! I've called 311 and the company directly more than 5 times at this point. All times I got put through to a customer service rep named Troy. She told me my ticket was closed, at one point I was told there was "something" in the can that wasn't allowed, I was also told that my cans were inaccessible - BULL! THEY ARE ON THE SIDEWALK! SHAME. They have NEVER come! Troy gave me a supervisor's number after he closed my ticket - Renee Brazil? I called today and he didn't answer, I'm not anticipating a call back from him. Richard's provides trash pickup at my office. They took the old can over 3 weeks ago and, despite repeated calls to the office, I STILL don't have a new can. Every time I call, I'm simply told that they are "getting to the small businesses soon" and that "you should have a can in a couple of days". Clearly, there's no rhyme or reason to the delivery, since they can't even give an estimated date that the can will be replaced. All for the bargain price of $48 per month, which I have continued to pay. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

Unfortunately, our fair city has a pretty poor track record in rewarding contracts to sub-par vendors. Richard's is no exception. We recently finished renovating a blighted property in Mid-City. We ordered two cans when construction began. It took months to receive them. Once we did, they were promptly stolen by some upstanding citizen no doubt. I filed a police report, and put in another can request almost a year ago with Richard's. A year later we still have not received cans. Since moving in, garbage pick up has been spotty at best. But, at least our bill for such services is always on time. That's one thing New Orleanians can always count on. read more

I am regularly harassed by this company's garbage truck driver's around the Freret area. Most recently, they deliberately blocked an intersection while I was biking home from work. I know it was deliberate because the driver was watching me as he drove the truck 20 feet and stopped it across an intersection. Then he and the other workers mocked me by making faces and noises and catcalling me. I immediately called the company and complained about truck #732 (it's painted really big above the hatch on the back of the truck). I'm posting here so others know not to choose this company for services and so other women know to call the company if they are harassed as well. read more

This place is terrible. Avoid at all costs. Got the city contract so they don't need to worry about actually "doing" anything.

I would give them a 0 rating because they don't even deserve a single star. My recycling has not been picked up in over a month. I've sorted everything as required and have a full bin just sitting there in front of the house. I have emailed them FOUR times and have received no response. Pathetic service and pathetic customer service. read more

I'm not trying to be difficult but Richard's Disposal you were doing great for years and we were proud of you..What happened lately..? Update: the supervisor did come out today and my trash is gone! Btw Linda at the office is very nice (best part of the company if you ask me). Also found this on their website after further investigation. Never heard of such strict rules for trash. You would think that they would be nice enough to mail new customers a copy of these rules (or maybe that's just me). It would have saved me a lot of stress and them a lot of phone calls, although I still think their rules are nuts. Turns out my trash wasn't being picked up (I guess) because I put trash in there that was not in "regular kitchen trash bags." read more

The service was signed up for through the S&WB of New Orleans in June 2018. Once service was established I never received the trash bin that is normally delivered. I call S&WB and I was advised to call Richard's directly. Richard's Disposal stated that they would have a bin to me soon and to be on the lookout. Another week went by and there was no bin. I reached out again to Richard's who stated that the bins were on backorder and they did not know when they would come in, however they told me that I can place my trash on the curb and they would still pick it up. Today I placed my trash on the curb as it is a new office it was boxes. When I called Richard's they told me that they will not pick up boxes and everything must be removed from the box, placed in a bag, and the boxes must be broken down. The boxes are our substitute trash receptacles, so the trouble with this is that we have no trash receptacle to hold the bags, and any stray dogs can tear the bags leaving us a second mess to clean up. We were assured however that they would come by today and pick up as a courtesy for our problems. As of this writing they have still not shown up. Upon a return phone call again they now tell me that they delivered a bin on July 15th (which we never received) and this is the first time this has been mentioned. All previous phone calls stated that the bins were out of stock and they would get us one ASAP. Furthermore our garbage is not being picked up and we now have 30+ boxes, bags, and other items to dispose of that we cannot get rid of. If the pickup would have been happening already, we would not be in this mess. Dated 8-24-18 still ongoing. read more

Has anyone else been scammed by Richards on a replacement trash can? They have done this to both me and my parents at two different residences. They claim to deliver a can to your house with zero proof of delivery and then when a can is never delivered and you contact them their customer service will yell at you and then hang up the phone. Then when you ask how you can get a replacement can they tell you it will cost $180 for the second replacement even though you never received the initial replacement can. read more

I moved to New Orleans October 10th and noticed that I did not have a trash receptacle. I called them and they told me that they will have one out in 7-10 business days. 20 days go by and still no solution. I called again and they told me that I am scheduled to have one delivered for the next trash pick up date. Its now November 13th and I still do not have a trash receptacle. I just called again and was told that I am on a list, but that they just haven't been able to get to me yet. I asked if there's an estimated timeframe to expect it. She said no and hung up. Very rude. Worst service ever. I don't know how they've had the contract with the city for so long but I plan to file a formal complaint against them. read more

I ordered a trash can a month ago, and I am still waiting for it. It takes 7-10 "service days" which means 7-10 of my scheduled trash pick up days. Horrible service...they wouldn't pick up our recycling because "there was too much in the trash"! Reporting them to the city!!

Been asking RDI for a new trash cart for 8 months; current one has broken bin, broken lid and missing wheel. Every time I call I am told it will be there "in a week." Now on week 32. Have asked repeatedly to speak to someone other than the person who answers the phone, she claims there is nobody to speak with (nonsense); she claims my "ticket is open" and I will eventually have a replacement (nonsense). Perhaps my discussion with the City Attorney about RDIs failure to abide by the terms of its City Contract and request for an investigation of compliance issues noted across social media will get it done. read more

This may seem trivial to some, but I am an 81-year-old handicapped single woman living alone without assistance. Richards frequently leaves empty garbage cans in my driveway so that I can't back my car out. And I can't move the cans due to my age and handicap. I have someone who takes my garbage can to the curb the night before pickup day and brings it back the next day. But he is not available on instant notice to move the can so I can back out. So I miss doctor appointments or am delayed and/or inconvenienced. I call Richards as soon as I realize a can is in the driveway, and Inez in Customer Service helps as much as she can; but she's getting as tired of this as I am. What's even more irritating is that the cans are not even mine. They belong on the other side of the driveway. That person has usually gone to work before trash and/or recycling are picked up. Richards doesn't seem to feel much responsibility. They'll move it when they come again. So I have to call supervisors on up the ladder to get action. Alvin Richards is next on my list. Any other suggestions??? (Oh, yes! Now I have discovered that I can't post this unless I give them at least one star. Really????????? read more
