So when I began reaching out to contractors to take on a large renovation project, I assumed my ignorance would be taken advantage of. We had a very pressing timetable it needed to be completed in 30 days. I can't say it can always be accomplished but Steven kept his promise and we were able to move into our beautiful renovated home in 30 days. From the first jack hammered floor to the last coat of paint. Steven and his team pulled off a complete gut job and installed new plumbing and electric. Steven listened to every design idea we had and offered many great design suggestions some we used and some we didn't. Every space in our home was new and amazing, exactly what we imagined.

My first project with Mr. Ralph was to finish up a DIY project I started and did not have the skills or time to finish. The work was extremely affordable, quick, and done well. I have an old house with many poorly done home renovations by the previous owners, he has dealt with them professionally and patiently. I have since used him for 4 other projects, most recently an extensive bathroom renovation. I am eager to learn skills that will help me do projects better myself and he has been a great teacher, not only in prioritizing projects based on what is important, but also in the materials and techniques. Projects do tend to go a little past the quoted time frame but it is because he cares about the details and doesn't hurry over the unexpected issues that pop up with old homes. He treats us like family and will probably end up re-doing every room here. If you want a rush job without quality or are overbearing I would pass on hiring him. We couldn't be happier with his work and professionalism!

Please do your research. Mr. Ralph Home Improvement is NOT a licensed home improvement/kitchen…read morerenovation contractor. Although, I asked on our initial conversation and he confirmed that he was licensed. After seeing the pictures of a new kitchen and reading the excellent reviews posted on yelp I contacted Mr. Ralph. He first gave me a labor cost of to renovate my kitchen for $3,000. After a few days he text me dropping his price to $2,700. He said he understood my situation & was willing to help me out. Few days later he went to my home, measured, sent me a shopping list of the items I needed. I ordered them through Lowes. Had them delivered bc his truck didn't have room/space for all the materials. While waiting on the new cabinets he demoed the old kitchen cabinets, painted the ceiling, walls and trim. This is where things began to go south: After noticing the old wall were the original cabinets were not painted, I asked him why not paint the old walls? He was resistant bc the new cabinets where going to be installed and no one would see it. He later gave in & began painting the old yellow walls. He charged $500 for the paint job + I purchased the paint. The quality I was promised was NOT what I or my real estate agent was seeing. The purpose of this project was to renovate my old kitchen so I can list the house for sale. After telling Mr. Ralph I was not happy on how large the gap between the refrigerator and top cabinet is I asked if perhaps the cabinet can be switched to a bigger/more functional size. At first he told me the gap can be covered if I placed something on top of refrigerator. I said ok. I thought perhaps a sign or basket would do the work. A few days later my realtor goes in, sees the cabinets and was also not pleased. She's sold properties for many yrs and is able to tell something is wrong right away. She called me up- bc I'm out of state- sent me more pics and strongly encouraged me to get the right cabinets for this area. After reaching out to Mr. Ralph he became belligerent, said I was micromanaging him and should trust the process. Mr. Ralph then texted me to let me know he was packing up & leaving. He demanded the rest of the $ owed which I had paid 1/2 of what he was charging me up front. Told me the job he was doing cost a lot more than $2,700 yet that was the cost he gave me. He told me if I did not paying him the rest of the $ owed he would not return. I asked him: would you pay for a job you are not happy with? A job that hasn't been completed? No, I didn't pay him & thankfully did not return. I failed to do my research for project. As a first time home owner who moved out of state & needs to sell the home. I trusted someone who told me on many occasions he was professional, experienced and meticulous at his craft. For this I'm paying the price. Please do not make the same mistake. Do not take a contractor's word no matter how nice they seem. No matter how many times they tell you they understand and want to help you. Ask to see proof- which I was never provided. All I received was an invoice for the renovation of kitchen cabinets and painting of my kitchen. I'm glad I listened to my realtor. In less than 24 hours of Mr. Ralph walking out of this project a new certified/experienced/recommended contractor stepped in. He wasn't shocked of the quality/service I received. Unfortunately, he's had to step in to fix jobs like the one I was left with. The new contractor confirmed: All the cabinets and counter top that were initially ordered were measured incorrectly & ALL the materials which were order needed to be returned w/ the exception of the ones already installed- bc those can't be refunded since they've been drilled in. I've lost $ & a lot of time. My home was suppose to be listed already. I lost $1,600: $1,350 ($2,700) was given as a deposit + $250 ($500) for kitchen paint job. I now have to pay extra to get the job done correctly- so basically I got what I paid for . Lesson learned. Do YOUR RESEARCH. No proof of licenses, no contract, no drawings, etc no business/$.

BUYER BEWARE: I hired David Carr to build for 3 contracts…read more The Deck: I initially hired Mr. Carr to build me a deck. I was delayed in getting a permit to move in my new house due to continued problems with the back deck. The steps had to be torn apart and re-done because they were not built to code. First State Inspections turned it down several more times until everything was corrected (step height, railing spacing, etc). After some time, I was finally given a permit to move in; however, I was told I was not allowed to use the back deck exit, only the front entrance. He took apart the railings while he was rebuilding the steps and piled them up in the dirt in the back yard. It was a YEAR before he completed the railings. When he finally reinstalled them, they were all scratched up and stained from the dirt and stones. He would not replace them. He put the vinyl covered posts back up with new screw holes and the old holes he filled in with putty. Unbelievable!! I insisted they all be changed. He did change the vinyl post, but would not replace the scratched and stained railings. A board on the steps was not screwed back down. I did not catch this because the screw holes were there from his first attempt at building the steps. Someone fell going up the steps when the board came loose. I was lucky I wasn't sued. When he first started on my deck, it looked nice, so I hired him to build the front porch. Looking back, I wish I had waited to see this project through first because I would NOT have hired him for anything else. I kept all paperwork, including contracts, permits, inspection failures, BBB complaints, Attorney General's complaint, and a complaint with the Delaware Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

As a widowed single mother of two girls in an incredibly difficult accelerated one year nursing…read moreprogram, I was beyond overwhelmed when I had a major septic overflow in my home. My first-floor bathroom, front hallway and entire kitchen needed to be gutted. The team manager of the mitigation company that I used, suggested David Colite of Colite Construction simply because he used the same program that the insurance companies use to build estimates for damage repairs. Supposedly it was more seamless to work with a contractor that used this program. Due to the fact that I was so busy with school and taking care of my girls, I agreed to go with David Colite. It was the worst decision I could have made. I am confident that David Colite will respond to this negative review like he has with others on other reputable websites; stating that he is really upset that I am writing this, that he did everything I asked of them and that I signed the job satisfaction form. He told me multiple times that I was an awesome client and quite honestly I know that I was. I paid him on time and I wasn't phased when he needed to be at another job for a day to receive a delivery or do work. I was kind, patient and trusting...too trusting, my mistake. It wasn't until we were nearing the end of the job that I started seeing the poor workmanship and even worse I realized that he had charged me for several items that had never been purchased and in fact, I had purchased them myself. The signed contract stated that the job would be completed by May 31, 2018. The last time he was at my home was June 26, 2018 and the job was not near completion. I wish that I could post the text messages and recorded voicemails from him promising to complete the work after I raised my concerns, specifically responding, "Piece of cake. I had planned on doing most of that today. We will take care of all of that not a problem." It wasn't until I asked him to do the right thing and reimburse me for over $3,000 that he received payment on and yet he did not purchase the materials or perform the work, that he replied letting me know that his work was done, that the project was complete and wished me good luck. I also wish that I could post the multiple photos of the work that he and his children did at my home, the craftsmanship is so poor. If you look at the photos I took of my kitchen from afar, they look beautiful. That is what he used to send to the insurance company to show the work was complete. No other photos were sent because the bathroom was not near completion. If I was able to post close-up photos of the kitchen, you would see the multiple corners that were cut and how poor the craftsmanship is. He put the job satisfaction one-sheet in front of me as I was racing out the door to pick up my children, and more importantly he did this prior to the work being completed. My attorney laughed at the job satisfaction form, stating that it would NEVER stand up in court and is extremely unprofessional. I also wish that I could share the PowerPoint document that I created for the insurance company that is 20 pages long with specifics of everything that happened from April to late June of this year. At the end of the day, I was too kind, too generous, and too trusting of David Colite of Colite Construction. Lesson learned. This man is not to be trusted. All that he cares about is getting paid and will cut corners on anything to get the job completed. Luckily, I have consulted with my attorney and I will be working with my insurance company to get the work done properly.
