The situation was that a 30 minute ordinary ENT office visit warranted a $200 bill because of insurance policies that are outdated. The blame should be put on insurance companies. I'm not saying that this situation could not be avoided. If anything, I could have asked about the procedures and their cost before permission was given to perform the procedures. (It would be nice if the doctor could give a disclaimer of the price before performing the procedure as well.) The lesson learned is to take your health in your own hands! The system is not as transparent as it should be and if you ever feel any concern or ambiguity, just ask. If you read my first review, Dr. Osterweil was absolutely fantastic. Even after this debacle (in my opinion), he and his biller explained all the charges to me and also sympathized with my displeasure. What can you do? The government really needs to get on this healthcare reform.

I had originally booked on Zocdoc, but my appointment was canceled without any reason, but I called the office and they were quick to set me up with another appointment right away. The office itself is clean, they're set up well for COVID19, with a HEPA filter and chairs distanced very far apart. The receptionists' desk also has plexiglass and everyone was wearing masks. I felt completely safe at all times. Dr. Lessow saw me within minutes of check-in. She is so compassionate and took her time to get a thorough medical history and really dig into what could be causing my issues (I went in for snoring issues as well as some ear wax buildup). After the initial intake, she then proceeded to take a thorough look at my ears as well as my nose (with a scope). Every step of the way, she was explaining to me what she was doing and also answering any questions I might have. At the end of the exam, she had an answer for my life-long snoring issue! She then presented me with some pharmaceutical options first and said that we should try that before considering surgery. I love her careful approach to treatment! She also has a system that can check how much your medication will cost at your chosen pharmacy, and she was very good about choosing options that were reasonably priced. Afterwards, she walked me back out to the receptionist, who was always so sweet and helpful in explaining the next steps to me. Overall, the appointment was almost 30/40 minutes - something I've hardly experienced, as most appointments I have are closer to 5-10 minutes. If you're looking for a compassionate ENT in the NYC area, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Lessow!
