I would love to come back- so many cute things on the porch!- but there wasn't a sign posting the store hours. I even walked up onto the porch and checked the door, thinking maybe the hours were just in a hard to see place. I guess next time I pass by I'll just have to guess based off of how many cars are in the parking lot. Not the best business model but maybe this store is in transition I'll give it a star for the cute things this store clearly has. But not knowing when to actually GO into the store and shop is a pretty big ding. I really look forward to giving this place a better rating.

Here I go again... I want to brag about my latest find…read more I've been loosely on the hunt for a cross stitched alphabet for my daughter's room. There's many kinds of vintage alphabets, many stitched by children as a learning tool in the late 1800s. They're usually more than $150 depending on the quality. This weekend I was back at the willows and what did I find.... The cutest cross stiched alphabet! Not the 19th century antique I was expecting, but a near perfect condition, hand made, alphabet with a cute custom red frame. And the best part? $35! On this trip I also found vintage Apple plates and a hobnail milk glass box. All amazing prices! Some visits are better than others, but The Willows is always worth coming to.

Much of the upstairs level is stocked with plenty of Melissa & Doug toys and other cool toys. They have Raggedy Ann & Andy stuffed dolls! I stopped in here a while back on the way back from North Conway. The store was also having a "cabin fever" sale on fall & holiday items, Willow Tree collectibles, toys, home decor, shirts, soaps, lotions, and candles. Also, while in the store, I asked if they had coffee by the cup since I needed some caffeine for the long drive back home. The owner offered to brew some fresh coffee while I did some shopping. I dispensed some fresh coffee into a large cup about 10 minutes later after I was finished picking out a M&D toy to purchase on sale at 25% percent off. The coffee was brewed just right and I was golden for my evening drive through NH.

There is a central cashier, however, there are "booths" set up inside. This large rambling space has many sections and each booth is filled to the brim. Some are heavier on furniture and wall art, while another might be heavier on yarn and craft stuff. Many booths have DVDs, CDs, (cassettes and even 8tracks!) PlayStation games , Nintendo games and other gaming systems as well as packaged used systems w controllers, comic books, coins and bills, knick knacks, glassware, plates, cups, glass tobacco pipes, knives, t-shirts, hats, Jewlery, pewter items including belt buckles ... You name it. You can wander around the maze of the building and almost not even see anyone else. We were greeted by two friendly dogs which made our day. When you go to the cashier, he will go through the tickets on your items and get the booth # and ring you up. It's efficient and low key. They also buy items, so if you have something you want to sell you might want to take it in and see how that works.

Vintage Junky is an antiques "group shop" on the main road into Berlin - Rt. 16. It opened last…read morefall. They have an excellent, and constantly changing, wide ranging inventory of everything from small knick knacks to larger pieces of furniture. I prefer group shops because with all the different vendors you get a better variety than with a single owner, who tends to specialize in one thing. For example, there is one person who specializes in old tools, anvils, etc., which are generally hard to find. There is also some nice old advertising posters from the Berlin area and white mountains area in general. A big trend in antiques now is "repurposing", where someone takes and old machine base, or sewing machine wrought iron base, and puts a butcher block top on it to make a cool table or island. This store has some great stuff for that type of thing. Berlin made a huge decision last winter to allow the ATV's full use of the city streets, as long as you are going to a business in Berlin. This will now open the floodgates of tourism to the area, as Berlin is now the most ATV-friendly city in America west of the Mississippi river. When visiting the area, this is a great place to stop in and do a little "treasure hunting". The owner, Maureen, is super nice and very helpful. And I've saved the best for last - the PRICES ARE TERRIFIC!! If you are driving up from southern NH, etc., you just might be able to find a super deal here, sell it back home at a profit, and pay for some or all of your gas money - win win!! .

They do a wonderful job curating the shop in the old barn. As soon as you walk in, you immediately feel as though you are treasure hunting in a real antique treasure trove. Everything from the old barn smell (in a good way!) to the music makes you feel as though you have stumbled upon a treasure trove of artifacts from yesteryears. The last time I was up I spent spent a few hours sitting cross legged on the floor looking through old photographs. I didn't realize how much time had past by and quickly realized that it was past the time they were supposed to close for the day. John and Patrick did not mind at all! They were so gracious and accommodating and told me not to rush because they were in no hurry. They also told me to feel free to give them a call them if I am ever in town and the shop appears closed as they would be happy to open up the barn if they are home.
