Mr. Bosely has two faces. In a proper frame of mind, he's a good tax lawyer. He knows both German and US tax systems and is bilingual. Over several years, his helpful assistant completed my US tax returns, if not always on time, then at least competently. He also steered me through tax issues related to renunciation of US citizenship and advised me on inheritance policy. The other Bosely is pedantic and condescending. In the final year of my dealings with his office, he left his own recommendations unfulfilled and, even after two gentle reminders, neglected to prepare my tax return on time as arranged. He gave no notice of this oversight and provided neither an explanation nor an apology. Instead, he said to look for another tax lawyer. By that point, I gladly obliged. Just the rudest, most condescending and unprofessional tax advisor I've ever worked with. He treated me like a complete idiot if there was anything about tax law I didn't already know. He also twice forgot I had a scheduled appointment with him and, when I showed up, got extremely irritated with me for being there. I had entrusted my tax affairs to the office of Mr Bosley, however, after 5+ years, Mr Bosley declared that he thinks it's "time to part ways" due to my request for written confirmation on a few points following a number of ineffective telephone calls and emails over the previous months with a member of his staff. I still don't have the answers I require and my tax affairs are now left in an unsatisfactory state. It's my opinion that you might save yourself a lot of hassle by finding someone other than the office of Mr Bosley to manage your tax affairs. read more

Cannot emphasize enough that you should NOT work with Mr Bosley. Aside from being rude and condescending, he made numerous major errors on our US tax return. Luckily we spotted the errors before the return was submitted to the IRS, and we fired him and engaged someone else to do the work. Some of the mistakes: numbers were incorrect; forms were simply blank in places where numbers should have been entered; even though we provided details to him, he didn't report the existence of our German bank account (a very serious error with scary consequences and hefty IRS fines); he miscalculated the depreciation on our rental home; and more. read more

Oh add me to the list of those who've had problems with Bosley (even though I used to recommend him). He once advised me not to file an amended return with some info I forgot in the U.S. The result -- the Finanzamt asked me why I didn't declare it. Amended return then had to be filed plus interest. He continually belittled my German steuerberaterin as if she were a moron and child. When another finance company I was working with needed a tiny bit of info from him, he wrote a scathing e-mail accusing them of being unprofessional. Oh, the irony. He used to be the only game in town, but that isn't the case anymore. read more

Bosley was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in business. He misrepresented himself in our initial interview and forced me with a lawyer to pay him hundreds of Euros more than we agreed. Not only this but I had to hire another accountant to audit and re do the work he performed because he made mistakes. I honestly don't know how this guy can stay in business. read more

He charged me an extra 35 Euros this year when he knew I was unemployed and he didn't even tell me his prices or fees have changed. Mean, rude, incredibly arrogant insulting, late in the deliveries and submitted wrong information (I ended up paying more taxes that I should have). He didn't have me review the information before submitting it. Please avoid this CPA as the plague, there are a lot of people who can do taxes for expats much better than this guy. read more

The only reason I am giving one star is that it is not possible to give less than one star and still write a review. As an American CPA, Richard Bosley got me fined and penalized because he completely forgot to do my taxes even though I gave him all my tax info for the previous year each year in January. He was generally off by a margin of $5000-22,000 of what I needed to pre-pay and I had to more than once rush to pay taxes, even after pre-paying the amount he told me I needed to pay. He speaks, especially to women, in a very aggressive and condescending manner. There are other firms across Germany that can do both American and German taxes and they are less expensive. He is not the only game in town. read more

Mr Bosley is consistently rude and condescending. In addition, he's very very slow in responding, and many times completely unresponsive. He comes across as an arrogant curmudgeon. There are plenty of other people who can do American taxes for expats. Please save yourself the trouble. read more
