In searching for some great Mexican, I came across Rice and Beans and was really excited to try it. So when I got to 22 rue Greneta and saw that it was a Japanese restaurant with a bizarrely similar name, I was quite confused and distressed (hungry for a burrito). After confirming I was indeed at the intended address, I checked out the menu for R&FY and decided why not give it a try.
My bf and I sat at the kitchen bar since the small dining room was full. Apparently this location (just a few steps from the sushi-focused location) is all about grilled, hot dishes. I ordered the chicken bento which came with salad, rice, a dipping sauce, and a small piece of cheesecake. He got one of the daily specials, the luau burger: pork with casserole and kimchi. This came with sweet potato fries and a special wasabi mayo sauce. I'm not a big wasabi person but there is something very tantalizing about this sauce! You have to try it for yourself, this wasabi mayo tasted amazing with the sweet potato fries. I'll also say that you wouldn't think kimchi tastes good on a burger but R&FY proves that it does! I enjoyed my breaded chicken and the sauce it came with, I just wish there was more!
Everything we had was good and very tasty. The staff was friendly and the chef even divulged just a little bit about making the wasabi mayo. So our enjoyable night here was all thanks to a happy accident (and I've since marked Rice and Beans as closed!). On the way out, we saw someone else's large, delicious-looking order of maki, so we will definitely be making a return! read more
