I read a recent YELP replay to this YMCA, indicating a small swimming pool. +I encourage the reader to go by a look at the pool. I saw at least 5 lanes that was several yards wide. I also saw a another pool attached, that could be used to train swimmers. Yes, this is a small gym. However, the gym includes tread mills, weight lifting equipment, bicycles and other equipment that can turn a two hour visit to five or more. They also have an adult group exercise area, and it is very near to child care area where the children were in play. Do not let your teens work here, especially as lifeguards. The managers at this location are completely disorganized, do not communicate, and THEY DO NOT PAY. Missing paychecks, losing clock in sheets, and high manager and lifeguard turnover. There is a reason they are desperate for workers .... because no one wants to do laborious work for free. A family center. All ages can find something to do here. There's numerous classes. Open to all ages. Kids can workout too. 10 and up can use equipment after an introduction class. Silver sneakers classes for seniors and field trips. Childcare is provided up to two hours while you workout. Swimming pool is open all the time. Even swim in the winter because a warm bubble covers their outdoor pool. The plus is memberships are good at any location. So no matter what part of town I'm in...I can get a workout or a class done!!! read more

I love the Y. My fiancee was sweet enough to front my membership fee so I didn't have to keep putting off joining. This Y is on my way to and from work, plus it's clean, never too crowded (when I want to go, anyway), and staffed by nice people. And when I enquired about joining, no one gave me the hard sell or tried to talk me into a package (Y memberships are strictly month to month). But perhaps my favorite part of joining so far has been trying the Y's decidedly non-Bikram yoga. In addition to keeping the studio temps in the reasonable 70s (vs. 105 in Bikram), the Y's yoga instructors (Fonda was there both times I've been) are less, well...let's say less militant. We were encouraged to modify asanas that were beyond our current physical capacity to enter, and we were affirmed all the way through. Namaste. read more

My mom is a member of this Y and I get a week's pass when I come to visit. In San Francisco, I belong to one of the top health clubs and I feel the classes at this Y rival any in San Francisco. I have taken the Zumba classes which are a blast with great music and the pilates classes which are excellent. The staff is so friendly, especially Angie at the front desk. She makes me feel welcome every time I visit. I highly recommend this location for the quality of classes, friendliness, and cleanliness. read more

I love working out here! The staff is always friendly. Once, I left my iPod on the counter as I was leaving the gym. I searched frantically for it then realized where I'd left it. The next day, the staff was holding it for me as they knew I'd left it behind. In December, ALL of the equipment was replaced with new, state-of-the-art equipment. You can now watch TV, surf the web or play games on the treadmills & bikes. The best thing is that, even with the new upgrade, the membership fee only increased by $1. Most gyms would have take the opportunity to skyrocket the prices through the roof. The exercise classes are the best! The instructors are very energetic and encouraging. My favorite classes are TRX, water Zumba & spinning. I highly recommend this Y (& the other Y locations) in Memphis. It has a nice family environment & reasonable dress code. The members are just as nice as the staff & always offering a smile or help when needed. read more

I would give them negative stars if at all possible. I haven't found anywhere I can post a review of the YMCA summer camp for this location, so I will do it here. My son attended their camp program in the summer of 2017 at Ridgeway Baptist Church in Memphis, and it was the absolute worst experience of his life. It still haunts him to this day. My son has high functioning autism, and I made the staff aware of this before he started. It apparently fell on deaf ears, because the first time there was an issue, they acted like they had no idea. Every single day my son attended this camp he was mercilessly bullied. I had numerous discussions with the staff about this, even asked for a meeting with the director of the program, and she assured me that it would not continue and that it was something they would not tolerate. However, the bullying absolutely continued, constantly, with my son often telling me that the counselors simply never paid attention to what was going on. My child was bitten on the leg one one occasion which gave him a nasty bruise, and he was also hit in the face on another, causing him to have a bleeding, swollen lip. This is simply UNACCEPTABLE. After the second time my child was hurt by another child, I addressed the director again, and this time was pretty much told that the counselors "can't keep an eye on them all the time" and that sometimes "things just happen." REALLY???? They basically washed their hands of any responsibility and chalked it up to "kids will be kids". They refused to take responsibility of their lack of supervision, and this was particularly disgusting to me because my son has special needs. They made zero accommodations to ensure his safety and that he would not be bullied. To this day, my son still talks about what a horrible experience he had at summer camp, and does not understand why other kids treated him so badly. Bottom line - if your kid has special needs, or is in any way prone to being bullied, STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. They don't care about protecting your child from other children. The counselors are young, lazy teens. Two years later I am still so angry about his experience and wished I would have brought it to the attention of the local news. The YMCA has a great reputation, but what my son experienced in their summer camp was a travesty. Shame on you YMCA. * Side note: They also took away my son's fidget spinners and a journal, and when I tried to retrieve them, the staff couldn't find them. So they either flat out stole the fidget spinners from him or gave them to another kid without even actually knowing who they belonged to. read more

I re-instated my membership about 2 months ago from since I was a teenager and I think it was the best decision I've made health wise. I try to go at least 2-3 times a week. I have small children and everyone with children knows that it may be hard to sneak away from the house to get a workout in even if its just for an hour. My boyfriend works late sometimes so I can't always depend on him to watch them when I need him to. With that being said, the Y has a "kid zone" where you can bring your kids and they can stay there for up to 2 hours a day. I have never had a problem using the kid zone and the people who watch the kids stay fairly stable so you don't have to worry about your kids not knowing who they are left with every time they go. I can take classes and I can workout out alone in the gym area. The classes are great! They have lower level and more intense classes to match your fitness level. Most of the machines in the gym are advanced technology wise. I like that I can sign up for MyPulse and track my activities on most of the cardio machines. They always seem to have enough free weights to go around unless some of the neighborhood high school boys are there training for (football, track, etc.). They are never a bother though. I think that they are very well behaved and I never feel like there are little brats running around in the way. I've not used the pool yet but I plan to very soon since it is getting warmer. Lastly, the people seem to be friendly here and the staff are also. I have not had one complaint so far with the courteousness or helpfulness of any of the staff members. They have older and younger staff members. Their staff is also fairly diverse. I think that this is a good thing because everyone who comes there can have someone that they relate to. I simply love this YMCA. I will be moving in July and I will be closer to the Cordova YMCA and I can only dream that their Y is just as great as the Nuber Y. Great job Y! read more

It's sad to see a place I once loved go down hill so fast. I was a member here for 10+ years, a daily swimmer, and canceled my membership yesterday. The pool is now over crowded, water polo and swim team have completely taken over the deep end / lap lane area for lap swimmers, children run amok, the lifeguards sit around on their phones barely paying attention, and the pool is extremely filthy. Avoid this place at all costs if you are a swimmer. Their aquatics facility is only there for either recreational swimmers, kids, adult make out sessions, or CBHS water polo / SMS swim teams (why don't they have their own pool for practice?). I pay way too much for my monthly membership to be unable to use the pool (the only thing I do - swim) for lap swimming. I'm sad, but time to move on. read more

I would never go here again because it's extremely limited in what if offers. I normally work out at the Y Downtown and conditionally it's not quite as nice but is much larger and has a fully-equipped locker room. I found parking here to be limited- the lot was nearly full and the gym wasn't even at half capacity. They have towel service but they are only hand towels, not shower size. The lockers are nice and large. Desk staff were friendly. read more

I am a long time member of the Nuber Y and love it. I take water aerobics and work out in the weight room. On Friday night, at 6 pm, water aerobics has been replaced with Water Zumba. The substitute instructor got there and was wanting me to take her class. I had not liked water zumba when I had tried it before, so I politely declined. She asked twice more before she seemed to become angry with me for completing my aerobics instead of taking her class. There were five children and one adult in the shallow end of the pool, plus one member of her class and me, still practicing the aerobics. She told me to move out of her class area. When my hour had been completed, three of the children and I got out to dry off and go home. The fourth child went to ask the lifeguards if he could jump off the side into the pool. She told the lifeguards to 'keep the kid away from me in case I kick him'. She had the entire side of the pool to teach from, and yet sat her electronics down next to the one table with clothes on it, mine. While we were drying off and dressing, she said we could be electricuted if not careful. Why did she have such dangerous equipment close to the water? She was angry with me and took it out on the children. I will still take water aerobics and work out in the weight room. But I won't have a thing to do with her. I have rated this the way I find the Y on a normal day. I love it. read more
