I LOVE this place!…read more I found Good Hope looking for volunteer opportunities for my 14 y.o. daughter. The work that Peggy and her staff do is indescribably wonderful! Not only is the place clean and well kept, but the horses are well groomed, well cared for, and well loved. These beautiful animals are trained to work with special needs children and adults. The horse's power and strength is able to empower a rider who cannot walk, or cannot talk, or maybe cannot sit upright without assistance. Peggy and her staff are gentle, yet stern to both the horse and the rider. Peggy keeps everyone safe, and has at least 3 other people helping the rider at all times. She always asks the rider if they are having fun, but also always reinforces the need for safety. The grounds are a little slice of heaven. Even if you just need some time to commune with nature, take a ride down south, park your car, and sit in the shade to watch the little miracles performed here. You will not regret the trip! I asked around for a reputable repair service and was told by a couple of local residents to go to Webster Marine. When I arrived first thing in the morning I happened to talk to Service Manager Jacob. His initial reply when I expained the situation was that they are booked three weeks out for service. When I asked where else I should look he decided to come out & take a quick look to troubleshoot if he could do it quickly. Less than 20 minutes later he found the crossthreaded/broken-off plug and had a replacement hose installed. I was on my way in less than a half hour for the price of a replacement hose. Jacob could have easily told me they couldn't help but he went above and beyond to help a customer. I hope the owners of Webster Marine Center recognize Jacob's work ethic and "customer first" attitude and realize what a great employee they have in Jacob.

During the busiest days of the year, the parking may be a bit tight, but there is always a place to park a short walk from your car. Their service department has always treated me very well. All work is high-quality and they stand behind their work. They repaired the trim gauge and it stopped working after a few weeks. They repaired the gauge right away. They care about the customer's boats stored here. After a particularly harsh winter storm, I went to check on the boat and found they had lifted the boats up to their highest position under the dock's roof to provide the best protection to the craft. I understand that sometimes one can have a bad experience with any service provider. In my case, Webster Marine has been a pleasure to deal with, do good work at an acceptable price, and care about their customers.

The boat we rented was a deck boat that had an expired tag, dent in the propeller which resulted in…read morepoor gas efficiency with the motor, a radio that did not work, a gas door that was loose and significant damage to the hull (major scratches from previous rentals but the hull had no leaks and was only a cosmetic issue). We contacted the owner regarding the radio on the first day. The owner did pull a radio from another boat and came to our house with the new one. Unfortunately only one speaker was working and we had issues with Bluetooth (the owner did test the radio when I returned and Bluetooth did work). Now onto the most shocking part. I returned the boat this evening and explained the issues to the owner. I told him that over the course of our 5 day rental, I had to fill the gas tank 5 times. We used the boat on average each day 3 hours per day (actual run time). We determined we were lucky to get 5 to 6 gallons per hour on an engine that typically gets over 10. Following my review of concerns, the owner started with I know people like you. He thought I was looking for discount and I told him that I was not seeking this and was trying to improve the outcome for the next renter. He then said good I am charging you the full price. I said that's totally fine. He kept insisting that the issue with engine was made up and a dented prop does not cause this issue. I thought we settled on civil terms and as soon as I began walking away, he started to yell sarcastic comments at me. I said you don't have to be a jerk now. I stood there looking at him from about 30 feet away and he charged at me with his teeth grinding and yes his fists were clenched. He walked right up to my face and threatened to hit me. He then took his arm back as if he was going to hit me and I just looked at him in total disbelief. His young daughter was just a few feet away and she kept yelling Daddy stop, Daddy stop. I said to him is this issue really worth going to jail for. He then said I know the police as if assault is legal for residents that know the police here locally. Nevertheless, I walked away calmly and left. I'm sorry this all happened and I take no pride in writing this review as I am a small business owner. Unfortunately the owner of this company should find another line of business given he barely cares for his assets and he cannot accept the good, bad and ugly with customers. I suggest renting from Mitchell's Marina and go elsewhere.

Gorgeous place. Peaceful and quiet with amenities like pool, sauna, gym, racquetball and a…read morerestaurant. In summer they have water sport rentals. I stayed here for my 31st birthday at the end of April and had a blast. I arranged everything about 1.5 months before with Cathy, one of the rental ladies on-site who lives there part-time and she was very friendly and helpful. I'm from Roanoke originally so SML has always been a place I've loved. Bernard's Landing is nice and secluded but has a very nice on-site restaurant, the grounds are well-maintained, and the gym, sauna, racquetball courts and indoor pool are all very nice and well-kept. We rented a 1-bedroom condo but because they weren't busy we were upgraded to a larger one right on the water for my birthday which was nice. We stayed for 4 days and really just enjoyed the peaceful lake life - it was very relaxing and quiet. We had a nice dinner the night before my birthday at The Landing where I had some yummy seared Ahi Tuna and a large pear salad with house-made vinaigrette. Our service was excellent and their menu offered some very yummy options. We drove about 15 minutes to Bridgewater Marina for lunch one day and rented jet skis. They operate rentals from Bernard's landing but don't begin that until later in the season - around May 15th I believe they told me. Very nearby is a Mexican place called Crazy Horse I think.... we weren't expecting much but it was very nice with a water view off their outdoor patio and fresh food with excellent service. They're building up the neighborhoods surrounding Bernard's Landing with several nice developments so I suspect traffic will pick up considerably once they finish the 100-200 houses that might be going in. We will def. come back and might make it a birthday tradition.
