This is the Stix formerly located on West Central, moved to 27th and S. Meridian…read more Stix is first and foremost a pool hall. A gigantic one, at that (located in a former strip mall). Drinks are reasonably priced, the drink specials are great (Friday night 32oz tankards for 3.75!). Selection is enormous for south of Kellogg. 40 different Rums, 20 beers on tap, huge selection of domestics and imports (I even saw a 12 of Schlitz in the cooler, who the hell drinks Schlitz any more?) The service is friendly and attentive, and they dress up for theme nights on Fridays. There is also poker 7 nights a week, but they are moving the poker lounge to a building in front of the main building to make room for more pool tables. If you are Karaoke-averse, this place NEVER has karaoke, so you can count on not having to listen to that on any night of the week. The interactive touch jukebox hosts a pretty good mix of music, and the patrons take full advantage of it. It's not uncommon to hear Travis Tritt, DevilDriver, Stevie Ray, Clutch, and Tom Waits within an evening, and no dirty looks from the staff (they're pretty open-minded about people playing what they want on their dime). The menu is variations of traditional fare. Burgers, franks, sandwiches, appetizers. Most of it artery-clogging comfort goodness, but I can vouch the turkey sandwich on wheat is one of the best in town, as well. Bar is pirate-themed, which adds to the fun, and the staff really get into the spirit of things. Also includes bike parking, for those of you out on a ride. The place is well large enough that you can come out on a busy night without getting claustrophobia. If you're looking for Old Town drink selection without the pretension and the premium prices, give this place a try.

Stix now has 24 pool tables with (3) 9 footers. The bar boxes are new Valley tables and accept 1, 5, and 10 dollar bills with price breaks accordingly. Pool is $1 per game or get 8 games for $5, and 20 games for $10 (50 cents a game!). The north bar (yep, two bars) is available for special occasions/private parties (Contact the manager or owners for more information). Stix is also a cigar friendly bar and has a good selection of single malt scotches for the adventurous. Friday and Saturday nights they have 8-Ball tournaments starting at 10:30 and Sunday night there is a 9-Ball tournament starting at 8:30ish. Spring in-house pool leagues are now forming M-Th 8-Ball 4 person teams, 14 week session. Dues are $6 per week per player and the payout for an 8 team session is $1000 for 1st place!! Free pool school is offered on Tues and Thurs evenings starting @ 5:00 and Saturday afternoons from 2:00-3:00. Come on down, the crowd and staff are unusually pleasant but remember to bring your ID. 18 to enter 21 to drink.

The chefs and bartenders show a mastery of flavor and food in every dish and drink we've tried. We genuinely cannot wait to come back after each visit.

The lighting is warm, the space feels modern but still comfortable, and it has that upscale date night feel without being overly formal. It creates a great first impression and sets expectations for a really polished experience. Unfortunately, the rest didn't quite live up to that atmosphere. Service was probably the biggest letdown. Our server came off a bit awkward and did something I've honestly never experienced before. Multiple times during the meal, we were asked to lift our plates and glasses so they could wipe underneath them while we were still actively eating. It completely disrupted the flow of the meal and just felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. On top of that, drink service was pretty slow. We had empty sodas sitting on the table for a while, and even though several staff members walked by, no one really checked in or offered refills unless we flagged it. For a place at this price point, you expect a bit more attentiveness. The food itself was decent, but both entrees came out noticeably too salty. Not just slightly over seasoned, but enough that it took away from the overall enjoyment of the dishes. It was disappointing, especially given how promising everything looked. However, the cake was fantastic but again, $16 for a slice of cake in Wichita is just too much, I pay less when I visit LA for work trips. What really sealed it for me was the price. For two people, one appraiser and two entrees, two sodas, and a single slice of cake plus tip, we ended up at around 150 dollars. That's a pretty steep bill for a meal that had service issues and food that missed the mark on seasoning. Rotating menu every two months with locally sourced ingredients is great, but poor service and a steep price for overly salty food is enough to keep me from ever coming back.
