I came upon Shooters by chance. Now I won't play anywhere else! Paula, the owner, is an avid player herself and keeps the tables in great shape. The service is fantastic. Whether it's April, Amy, Jen, or Gabby at the bar, they're checking in frequently and quick on a drink order. They seem to have tournaments running every night, with Phil running them. Drinks are reasonably priced, the drink specials are great (Friday night 32oz tankards for 3.75!). Selection is enormous for south of Kellogg. 40 different Rums, 20 beers on tap, huge selection of domestics and imports (I even saw a 12 of Schlitz in the cooler, who the hell drinks Schlitz any more?) The service is friendly and attentive, and they dress up for theme nights on Fridays. There is also poker 7 nights a week, but they are moving the poker lounge to a building in front of the main building to make room for more pool tables. If you are Karaoke-averse, this place NEVER has karaoke, so you can count on not having to listen to that on any night of the week. The interactive touch jukebox hosts a pretty good mix of music, and the patrons take full advantage of it. It's not uncommon to hear Travis Tritt, DevilDriver, Stevie Ray, Clutch, and Tom Waits within an evening, and no dirty looks from the staff (they're pretty open-minded about people playing what they want on their dime). The menu is variations of traditional fare. Burgers, franks, sandwiches, appetizers. Most of it artery-clogging comfort goodness, but I can vouch the turkey sandwich on wheat is one of the best in town, as well. Bar is pirate-themed, which adds to the fun, and the staff really get into the spirit of things. Also includes bike parking, for those of you out on a ride. The place is well large enough that you can come out on a busy night without getting claustrophobia. Stix now has 24 pool tables with (3) 9 footers. The bar boxes are new Valley tables and accept 1, 5, and 10 dollar bills with price breaks accordingly. Pool is $1 per game or get 8 games for $5, and 20 games for $10 (50 cents a game!). The north bar (yep, two bars) is available for special occasions/private parties (Contact the manager or owners for more information). Stix is also a cigar friendly bar and has a good selection of single malt scotches for the adventurous. Friday and Saturday nights they have 8-Ball tournaments starting at 10:30 and Sunday night there is a 9-Ball tournament starting at 8:30ish. Spring in-house pool leagues are now forming M-Th 8-Ball 4 person teams, 14 week session. Dues are $6 per week per player and the payout for an 8 team session is $1000 for 1st place!! Free pool school is offered on Tues and Thurs evenings starting @ 5:00 and Saturday afternoons from 2:00-3:00. Since everybody is familiar with each other, nobody is anonymous and everyone has some kind of standard to uphold because if they act out of line, it is their reputation at stake. I disagree completely with Jesika P. and can honestly say I have never felt safer at a drinking establishment, and I am petite white girl. I would even feel safe going by myself. The alcohol selection is above average: usually I have to settle for something like Shock Top (rolls eyes) if I don't want to drink Coors or Budweiser (-yacks-). They actually have a few good ones like Blue Moon and Guinness, for anyone that wants to drink some real beer. If you show up when they are serving food, the cook is awesome and the grub is yummy and greasy and a great match for the beer. As a smoker, the one thing I absolutely love about this place and that sets it apart from the rest is that you can actually smoke inside! Since I started drinking, smoking had always been banned in bars, but now (and especially this winter) I can enjoy having a cigarette inside. There are three pool tables available for the pool sharks, and what has turned into my personal favorite: karaoke. The food was good, but I wouldn't say completely outstanding for the price point. I appreciate the farm to table type approach and that's what males need really want to love the place. But the food just missed the mark for the price. Good.... But not outstanding as I would have expected. The drinks were really good and were something different than the normal which I really appreciated. The service was also something that was little awkward. It wasn't bad service, but a very long descriptions of things, back story, etc. when we needed more drinks, we kind of had to flag out waitress down. Again, nothing terrible...we were taken care of fine - but I think when you compare how much it costs vs. what the expectations were - it just overall missed slightly. I am open to giving it another try.
