This is the best movie theater ever been too! It's super beautiful and clean! The seats also recline completely! I didn't take a picture of the restroom but it's really cute and clean in there! I would recommend movie lovers to come here! I think the only thing I wish could be better is the lighting of the movie since the movie itself was a little hard to see but I'm not sure if it was the movie I was watching! Rheem Theater is a neighborhood gem. One of the most appealing things about it is that they have the big comfy reclining seats! This feels like a little known fact because most people are surprised when I tell them. I also appreciate that it's usually very easy to secure good seats in a non-overcrowded theater. The worst movie theater experience ever. First, the movie stopped playing in the middle of the showing. It was restarted after a few minutes. Not starting from where it stopped but from the very beginning. Food: 30 minutes for two hot dogs and a pizza. I waited the 30 minutes, none of the food was ready. Nice, clean theater with modernized art deco feel inside. Only 7 min for previews with no commercials for soda or candy. I appreciated this a lot as some of the bigger theaters take way too long with ads and previews. Parking was a breeze. read more

It had been a few years since I'd been to the Rheem Theater and I always enjoyed it as a classic venue for full buffs and special movie nights. Tonight my wife and I enjoyed Superman in the main theater and it was very impressive. New and tasteful interior design, all new deluxe reclining seats with swivel trays... it was clear that the new owners, Cinema West, invested in this movie palace in a major way. Perhaps most impressive was the Dolby Sound system. It appears that they have installed a raised floor with powerful subwoofers underneath. The floor and chairs rumble when booming sounds are part of the soundtrack. It doesn't shake you around at all, it just gives you the sensation of a deluxe movie experience. The seating is not crowded and the rows provide easy access without requiring other movie goers to stop reclining to allow you to pass by. Concession prices are a bit high, but bear in mind that you're paying for this theatre's extensive renovation. The popcorn was crisp and buttery, A+. The candy selection was typical of most theatre chains - no premium candies. The hot dogs looked like they had been cooking all day - it's probably best to avoid any savory food items though I didn't see the pizza they offer. There are much better meal options within the same complex including Sushi Fighter just next door. The Rheem used to have vintage art deco restrooms that were almost in museum-grade preservation. Those are gone with the renovation but are now more accessible, modern and clean. Rheem isn't really it's own town. It's a rural district bordering Orinda and St Mary's College. It still as much of it's California small town charm and three Rheem Theater was an icon of the district's identity. With a small population of students and locals to draw from, the Rheem has struggled to stay financially viable. But now, with the revitalized main auditorium, the Rheem is now a destination movie theater for first-run movies. So enjoy this top quality cinema before the crowds discover it. I love this theater! Everyone that works here is great, the popcorn is tasty and the beer is delicious! Tuesdays they have deals which I love. Always easy to find parking around the theater. The one thing they can work on though is following up when a moving is showing. Once we sat waiting for the movie to start for 15-20 minutes before someone finally went to get someone and it turned out the movie wasn't able to play. Another time they never dimmed the lights. Would be great if someone just made a round through the theater to make sure everything is working good for the movie when it is supposed to start. read more

Love the theater and sound system, hate how it's run. There are multiple times I've had to go out of the show to ask to have the lights turned off now. It's frustrating to miss part of a movie because of poor setup. The thing that really irks me though is that they may overcharge you. I've had two incidents happen: - a matinee showing was charged as an evening showing (that was remedied on the spot) - an evening showing in the big theater had a $2 mystery upcharge that the manager in charge could not explain nor change. Look, I get it, theaters are struggling. And I want to support the smaller local theaters. But it's getting challenging when y'all charge $16.50 for a movie in the main auditorium (again $2 of which are not explained with the price breakdown on the board). Staff are generally very friendly but limited in what they can do. Please fix some of these issues. read more

We absolutely love this theater! The new seats are super comfortable, clean, and the young staff are sweet(albeit sometimes ditzy...but they seem like students working for xtra money). Feels like a small town theater with good hotdogs, decent popcorn and concession. I love that they also bring the food and concession to your seat if it's not ready in time. We always get hotdogs when we go to the movie and they make it to order which can be a long wait if they have not defrosted them. A bit more planning for projected show times where they will expect more people would be nice. Depending on the theater, I feel like the can do better job with the video quality and lowering the lights more. Sometimes looks like you are watching TV in the middle of the day and can't seem to see all the true details as is intended by the movie maker. All in all, we still love coming here and would give it a 4 1/2 rating if possible. read more

Having a local theater is a gift! The seats are large, comfortable and reclining and they offer $5 matinees on Tuesdays. We have seen several movies here over the last two years and had a solid experience every time. The most recent visit we did encounter some technical difficulties where the projector kept glitching and we ultimately didn't get to watch our movie and had to get a refund but it was a one off and we will still come back. read more

I purchased tickets for a showing at the Rheem because the theater clearly states on the Fandango app/website that all customers must show proof of Covid-19 vaccination -- which is great and I want more theaters to do this. I've gone past this theater so many times on bicycle rides -- it was a welcome treat to visit on a rainy saturday with a friend. The staff are friendly and efficient, the theater is so clean -- including the bathrooms and the auditorium. The seats are very comfortable. My only feedback would be that they turn down the volume a bit -- it was excessively loud for such a small space. Not thrilled at the ads that precede the film, but it was nice that it was local businesses (ie, the State Farm office next to the 7-Eleven nearby). Overall, great experience and I will probably go back. read more

Love this local gem! What's not to love? 5 min from home, plenty of parking, comfy reclining seats, four screens, it's clean... all good! The concessions have been upgraded so there is draft beer, wine, pizza, hot dogs, and fresh popcorn. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only negative? The nacho cheese machine was not working! A classic movie theater in Rheem. Showing new movies and comfy seats? Sounds great. My wife and I purchased our tickets online and decided to give it a try last Saturday night. We arrived 20 minutes early excited to get in our seats and relax. When we arrived at the theatre, there was a line out the door. We could not understand what was happening. We purchased our seats ahead of time. It turns out, everyone must wait in one line to get in. Prepaid or not. And the person at the refreshment counter is the one collecting the online tickets, selling tickets to those who needed them, and taking everyone's popcorn and drink order. One line for everything?? Needless to say, we missed the beginning of our movie. Many of those in line behind us, who had also prepaid, just circumvented the line and walked up the stairs to the theaters. We did stay in line and ordered popcorn and they delivered to our seats which was great. We enjoyed the movie. They just need a better process to check in. And if only 3 theaters, why schedule the movies start times close together. Space them around for better crowd control. I really want this place to work out. They just need to get better. read more

Ok so this theatre is really a great family experience. The staff are very helpful and patient. So that really works with 4 children all 10 and under. The movie snacks were great as well. The upgrades make this place. The reclining seats, new audio and video, the decor. Plus new release movies. Well done Rheem! Well done! Rheem Theatre is one of the few remaining traditional old-school movie theaters. While the theatre has struggled through the years, they were recently acquired by a mainstream movie house, which will enable them to hopefully survive with now playing first-rate new releases, in addition to the independent films that kept them alive through the years. The theatre was recently remodeled with comfy seating and a state-of-the-art A/V system, while maintaining the theatre's historical charm. Strongly encourage all to support this theatre. read more

The theatre is very nice and the staff friendly and helpful. The biggest drawback is that the projection system in the main auditorium isn't bright enough. This made night scenes hard to see and day scenes washed out. I wish the system was better. We'd be regulars if it was. read more

Went to see Guardians of The Galaxy 3. The movie was not projected at the right size so at least a third of the screen was missing, including the tops of characters heads and all captions. In the front row, it was uncomfortable to the point of torture. I told the staff, who came in to look at the screen but did nothing to fix it. We walked out after an hour, the restrooms were dirty and trash cans overflowing. Sad, because this could otherwise be a good theater. Nice facade, comfy recliners, ok sound, lots of easy parking. But won't come back until owners address the issues. read more

The Rheem Theater is one of the few classic film establishments left in a world of rapid modernization. Despite being located in the sub-par town of Moraga, the theater fights typical standards and shows strong qualities. To name a few: At least one screen out of the four is always working! Sometimes there is food. The seats are awesome. They are made of cushy leather and recline. If something goes wrong you can get very many free movie passes. Along with these grand accolades, the crowning achievement of the Rheem is its phenomenal employees. For some reason, they try very strongly to make the customers' experience pleasant. If something goes wrong my favorite thing to do is yell at them. Who cares if they have nothing to do with the AC being broken. Look out for one particularly great employee who is 6ft tall with brown hair and striking blue eyes. read more

This was the nicest theater experience we have had in a long time. Our kids were so excited to go out for a movie and Rheem theater did not disappoint. It has all the comforts of a huge theater, without the crowds and general grossness. Plenty of parking and a few great restaurants nearby. Go early and pick up a Lamorinda pizza for dinner after. The New Rheem easily earns five stars. The outside is a great example of Googie architecture, a form of Mid-century modern architecture. The interior is attractive. The ladies-room has a lounge with chairs and mirrors. There is some period appropriate art on the theater walls. There is collection of movie costumes and vintage movie posters in the lobby and a side room. Although it isn't used, the original box office is beautiful. There is a classic decorative marble leading into the theater, something that all most all theaters had in during the golden age of single screen movie houses. The very top of my list is the wide curved stairway to the upstairs movies. I walked up and down the staircase and felt like I was staring in a classic movie. While not a part of movie magic, it is also easy to park. There were to parking time limits or meters to worry about. Of course, ultimately, I am here to enjoy a movie. The audio visual seems to be fine for the movies I like to see. There were not sounds from the other rooms leaking into the one I was sitting in. What's not to like: Well, Moraga is a bit of a jaunt off the main road. So, I can't decide to see a movie here just before it starts. According to an article in the Contra Costa times, both the Rheem and the Orinda are for sale. Hopefully, whoever takes over will not demolish them. read more

This place is such a gem! It's small and cute. Auditorium 1 was quite spacious. The seats were comfortable and the spacing between the aisles were huge. The seats offer a small tray table for snack setting. They had all the basic concession stand items as well as alcohol. The theater is also not as crowded as some of the larger named theaters. I love supporting local businesses and this theatre is a gem for the Lamorinda area. For the film buffs you will find a treasure trove of movie memorabilia. You'll find the VW bug used in the classic film Herbie parked right out front. There are costumes, movie props, photos and classic posters of movie greats throughout the lobby and hallways. I've lived in Orinda for the past four years, but only recently... well, this past December... went to watch Fences with my parents at the New Rheem Theatre. This tiny place has a lot of history and soul, and was pretty clean and well-maintained. It reminded me a lot of the Grand Lake Theatre, but without a lot of politics emblazoned on their marquee sign, haha. If you think only big chain theaters have reclining seats, think again. For a few extra dollars you can upgrade to a plush, reclining chair and battle the urge to fall asleep during the movie. All in all, support a local business and enjoy a movie here! read more

This vintage theatre has been overhauled top to bottom with the latest technologies but still retains its retro charm. We are very picky about where we want to see our flicks and the Rheem is totally worth the drive: Electric recliner seats with tables and cup holders, awesome Dolby, spectacular projection capabilities.
