Shawn worked at record speed getting permits, ordering materials, and communicating with us on hundreds of details. He uses high quality vendors and when we were in town, we were able to visit the carpet supplier, the workshop of the custom cabinet maker and the warehouse of stone to pick out stones for kitchen and bathrooms. Shawn always offered a range of options from less to more expensive. Shawn has a wonderful flare for design and helped us pick out furniture, fixtures etc and stopped us when we were going in the wrong direction. Yet he respected our sensibility and vision. He worked feverishly to get us into our house. His crew was working in a community with many rules and we were told repeatedly by neighbors how polite and respectful his crew was. Shawn was accessible and responded quickly to calls, often answering himself. He gave us an estimated time of completion and met it. He turned somersaults trying to meet the deadline. We came in on the original estimate. any additional costs were due to upgrades at our request. The quality of the work was outstanding. We have been in the house 3 weeks and can appreciate the excellence. A thorough search LED us to Shawn and Create Interior Design. He came and met with us several times to explain his process and guide us through the entire project step by step. He drafted several design concepts based on our input and refined them until we were happy. After the basics had been locked down, it was much easier for us to choose specific tiles, colors and fixtures. The lifelike 3D renderings provided a clear vision of what the finished bathroom would look like, and removed all the guesswork and stress from this project. Shawn provided us with an extremely detailed list of every item and exact cost for the project including scheduling, permits, demo, construction, inspections and every material and fixture. My husband and I then spent two years working from home together in our front room (we call it the study now) without any rhyme or reason, just putting our desks wherever they fit, because it all happened so quickly. It was awkward and ugly, cords and monitors everywhere, and not a great look for people walking in our front door. The whole time, I was thinking, "when this is done and at least one of us goes back to the office, I want to make this room into a nice space to read and relax, and also to WFH when I have to." That's where Kanika comes in. I tried changing the place up on my own, but every choice I made seemed to make my space uglier and more awkward. It was time to hire a professional. That decision was worth every penny. In the end, my project turned out to be slightly bigger than just one room. I enlisted Kanika's help in choosing flooring, baseboards and paint for the whole house, furniture for my entire downstairs (we were still using the old living room furniture left by the previous owners), and light fixtures throughout. She was easy to work with and understood immediately what I was going for. My study is a real showstopper now - the walls are this deep blue color that looks amazing, she designed a gorgeous custom bookshelf that makes perfect use of the space, and she picked a couch that is the perfect size, just the right color, and so comfortable. We didn't have some major remodeling to do. Our house was brand new and just needed furnishing. Easy, right? Obviously not since I'm here. There's a reason there's an entire profession for this. After getting lost in the Pinterest rabbit hole for a few weeks, I realized I needed help. I had a bunch of vague ideas, and my Pinterest board was all over the place. As inspired as I was with all the Youtube designer videos, I needed someone with a clear vision who could give us direction. Enter Celine. I found her through Yelp, and of the portfolios I sifted through, hers appealed to me the most. Her designs were simple, cozy, and modern, but most importantly to me, there was a unique character to each project, so I knew she had the flexibility to help us design our dream home while maintaining her clean aesthetic. Signing a contract to work with her is quite the commitment. I know some designers will offer a la carte services, but Celine will see your project through from beginning to end: sketching floor plans, creating mood boards, sourcing and purchasing furniture and accessories, and installing everything. This is exactly what we needed. I knew that if I just had a blueprint, I would continually find excuses, and our home would be forever incomplete. She was respectful of our budget and surprisingly made it work. Honestly, I'm so impressed with how patient she was with us. I'm not an easy person to work with. I'm picky, but horrible at describing what I want. Most of it went like this, "I just want something that looks nice... mostly neutral, but maybe a little color... Which color? Oh, I love all colors". And she would come with a mood board with green accents... Me: "No, apparently, I don't like green." So she would start all over again. We went through so many iterations of our space. Bless her. At the risk of sounding cliche, she really went above and beyond. Pretty sure our contract estimated 40hrs for this project, and she easily spent triple that. Window fashions weren't explicitly part of our contract, but she's dedicated to completing the space, whatever that means to you. She helped us find vendors, arranged the meetings, and gave us input on which products would work best for each space. For all the furniture and accessories, she handled all the purchasing, returns, and interactions with customer service. That last part would have been worth it alone. Things inevitably go wrong when you're ordering so many items. Products come damaged or don't come at all or aren't what you expected, and not having to deal with crappy customer service agents is just... incredible. The trade discounts were the cherry on top. The amount we saved basically covered her design fee. Maybe all of this is obvious/considered standard to people who have worked with designers before, but for us newbies, it was an amazing experience, and we would do it all over again. The initial dread at the prospect of furnishing a large space (we went from a 700sq ft apartment to a 4000sq ft house) during a pandemic was replaced with excitement. She made it fun and easy. She was there every step of the way and having that support, on top of the service, was so comforting to us. We can't recommend her enough, and hope that this novel of a review will convince some of you to take that leap.
