Hiring Randy Gross of RG Painting to paint the exterior of my house was the biggest mistake I ever made. He took my money, did terrible work and abandoned the job half-way through. After being jerked around for several months I took him to Beacon City Court where the judge ruled in my favor. Randy's a deceitful person who I wish I never met. Regarding his work, Randy sprays the paint on the house, however he does not use a brush to smooth it out. Instead, he sprays and walks away, the result being several blotches and an uneven coat, looking terrible. Nor does he cover the trim while spraying the house, all the window, door and chimney boarders are covered with excess paint, looking sloppy and unsightly. Also, once Randy took my money he basically disappeared. I received several texts that he'd call me, or stop by, but it was all a farce. There was always excuse-after-excuse as to why he couldn't speak to me. I suspect Randy is a contractor on the financial edge. While the judge ruled in my favor I've still not been paid. And looking back, I should have gotten suspicious when I noticed that whenever I gave him a check, he rushed to my bank and get cash. Other contractors make a deposit in their business account, but not Randy, he always got cash immediately. That tells me he needed the capital to move on to his next job, even though he was less than half-way through with my home. Finally, I also learned that another client took Randy to court in the Town of Wappingers. I read the complaint and it's very similar to mine. In essence, Randy Gross and RG Painting should be avoided. Don't make the same mistake I did. read more

My partner and I used Randy on my sister's recommendation, she swears by him and has been using him for years we need. After our experience with him we would never recommend them to anyone. Brandy requested half payment up front and said he would start on Monday whoever did not start for 3 weeks. He was never here when he said he would be he kept delaying the job and postponing did work one day a week and then we wouldn't see him for another two weeks. Toward the end of the job he kept telling you how he would come back to patch the hole and then he asked for his final payment. My partner did not want us to pay him but I thought we could trust him since he had worked for my sister for years. He would constantly tell us how he loved us and we were like family and how great we were. When we gave him the final payment he said he would be back next week to fix the hole and finish any touch-ups, that was in early May. I have months of texts going back and forth with Randy where he keeps promising to come next week but always has an excuse, his mother was sick, he lost his phone, he thought he had cancer etc etc. I think Randy is the classic con man tell you just what you want to hear and I would not recommend nor would I ever hire him again. If you hire him do not pay him until every bit of work has been completed or be willing to pay someone else to complete what he doesn't. read more

This review reflects multiple experiences with Randy Gross and his painting service. Let me begin by saying that if he can treat a client who is a relative of a family friend and therefore a trusted referral this way, he's have no qualm doing it to any other perfect stranger. Randy is a con-artist. He will begin by telling you what you want to hear in order to get the job. That includes a low attractive quote (ie: quoted me $1300 to skim and paint a 108 sq. ft. bedroom and we ended at $1800). Rest assured that quote will quickly climb as he tacks on excuse after excuse (ie: taxes which I'm doubtful he actually reports or even painting trim in a room after he quotes you to paint the whole room). My frustrations with Randy tipped the scale this time around. Mind you I have hired and chosen to look past some of those shortcomings over the years to have him paint my garage, entryway, and living room as he always did a pretty decent job. An in those cases better off with the devil you know than the devil you don't. There was always an excuse in the past for delays or for deficiencies in the finished product. He always said he'd be back to fix it and the majority of those times, he just let time go by enough to where I just forgot about it. The mistake I made, was to give him another chance this time around to paint a bedroom we are turning into a nursery. He assured me he'd make it look great and fix the issues that were of concern to me. We agreed that he would address the outside of the window as that was likely the culprit for the humidity building under the paint of the window sill. He assured me he would do his "due diligence" and "everything he could do" on the outside before repairing that bit of water damage inside. Instead, he never touched the outside, never even calked the inside and simply did a cover up job. When attempting to hold him accountable, he avoided my phone calls and texts. When he did finally respond, it was one excuse after another telling me he would have to find a day. When we finally agreed on a day, there were you guessed it, more excuses and now finger pointing. I even had a drip stain on the wall that he states was stain blocked. However it is still visible under the paint (usure if he even applied more than 1 top coat). Mind you that stain could have just been wiped before even doing any prep work. Instead Randy wants to say that water is running behind his paintwork which is physically impossible. Please take it from me and save yourself the hassle and hire a true professional. Hire someone who will not shower you with pleasantries just to get the job, and then leave out to dry when he inevitably misses or messes up something. Don't hire someone who just gives you the runaround and never takes responsibility. Randy and his painters couldn't have been better. From his initial estimate, and communication, he was great! Everything he said, he did. When he said they would be at the house, they were here. He was in constant contact with him with ever part of the job. We could not be more impressed with their work. They were all clean, respectful, and did an amazing job. There were some walls that needed fixing, some areas that were not easy to get to. He did not add anything to the original estimate. I wouldn't call anyone else when we need rooms painted. read more

This is an addendum to my prior review, the painting work was excellent, clean and neat and the price was fantastic. However, it is a fact that Randy and his team did not come back to paint a small area that they missed. In the grand scheme of things, it was not a big deal, and perhaps Mr.Gross did lose his cell phone as he told me, but he still didn't reach out or come to the house to let me know what had happened. I had no way of knowing that the cell phone was missing, so I assumed Randy went on to other jobs. In any event, his work does deserve 5 stars, because I was and are very, very happy with the kitchen. This may all just add up to be an unfortunate misunderstanding. read more

I had Randy Gross paint my kitchen last week. He did a wonderful job at a great price. However, he neglected to paint a very small area which had plastic protector. He said he would come back and never has. He did the same thing to me in 2005. He did not come back to finish trim on a window. I took a chance on him after 13 years and history has repeated. After attempting to reach him several times I had no choice but to post this. He told me he lost his cell phone and could not contact me. How about just driving over to tell me that? I hired Randy Gross ,the owner , to paint 3 rooms in my home in Poughkeepsie. Worst experience of my life. Not only did he over charge me but he also never finished the job. Very unprofessional and customer service is absolutely horrible. I called and texted him several times with no answers or response. Made an excuse said he would come back and never did. Just ran away with my money. DO NOT HIRE this company or Randy at all. You will regret it! read more
