If you love live music but aren't a fan of huge crowds and overpriced everything, this theater is a total gem. First off, the vibe here is just cool and intimate. It's one of those places where, even if you're sitting a bit farther back, you still feel close to the action. The acoustics were great, every note and every lyric was super clear, which really made the performance feel special. Muscadine Bloodline killed it, by the way! One thing I really appreciated: the whole experience felt easy and relaxed. Getting there was a breeze and there's a parking garage directly across the street, so no crazy searches for a spot or long walks in the cold/rain/heat. You can literally be inside the theater within minutes of parking. Inside, the concessions were surprisingly reasonable. I was bracing myself to pay $20 for a beer like most venues, but nope, drinks and snacks were actually affordable. It's a little thing, but it made the night even better. Being able to sit for the show was also huge for me. The seats were comfortable, with a good view from just about anywhere. I loved not having to stand the whole time or jockey for space. It's honestly the perfect size, big enough for a killer crowd atmosphere, but small enough that it's not overwhelming. All in all, the Carolina Theatre just nails it for live shows. Great music, chill atmosphere, reasonable prices, and zero hassle. Can't wait to catch another concert here!

While I love that movie, and generally the shared reaction from the crowd is what I love about the movie going experience, these people laughed WAY too hard at bits that had already been done a bunch throughout the movie. I think it was because they really wanted to have a good time, so they laughed harder than was warranted. That isn't the worst crime but just to give you an idea of the people who I assume frequent this establishment. I've sat in Orchestra, on the first floor, the grand tier, and the balcony and they've all been great. You can see everything. I have enjoyed every show I've ever seen here (Chicago, Wicked, Something Rotten) as well as concerts (Alison Krauss, Singer/Songwriter) to name a few. The employees are SO friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to make sure you know where you're going and that you're having a good time. I'm always impressed with the customer service when I go. They have those Bavarian nuts that are so delightful and a bar with domestic beers and wines. Quite a few soda options to chose from as well. There is a parking deck right next to the venue and if you get there early enough you shouldn't have a problem. There are other parking decks in the area as well. There are numerous places to eat surrounding the DPAC, so many amazing choices. I would highly recommend buying tickets to see a show here and make an evening of it with one of the close by restuarants or bars. Downtown Durham has become utterly amazing!

I had the opportunity to attend their play called "A Trailer Park Christmas" ($23 per ticket) which is in its 8th year and is consider a local holiday tradition. I should first point out that this is a very causal theatre with a gravel parking lot and tiny lobby. Concessions were displayed on a dry erase board but well equipped with several types of beer and wine to include $3 PBR and $4 red and white wines. It has open stadium seating that can accommodate about 55 people and it's touted as "A small space where big things happen." I can't begin to tell you how much fun the show was. Lots of audience participation and they even passed out several snacks during the show. To include Doritos topped with canned easy cheese to go along with the trailer park feel. The actors are very talented and wonderful singers. I laughed so hard I peed a little and everyone is our group agreed to come back next year to watch the play again. If you are looking for a casual evening out I highly suggest CGT.

Came to Mettlesome last night for a show and had a great time!…read more Parking was easy because Mettlesome is part of the "Golden Belt Campus," which basically just seems like a bunch of buildings in a complex with a nice little outdoor area. The front of house staff were helpful and nice, tickets were very affordable ($8), and the theater also sold reasonably priced beer and wine. The show started on time and was entertaining! I was a bit surprised that there was a short intermission halfway through the show since it was only an hour long, but that may just be a unique part of the "Show and Tell" performance. Overall, I would definitely come back here - it was a lot of fun!

We come here every year for several different events. My daughter participate in something called…read moredance for Christ two weekends before Easter every year. It is usually at Packed house. The seating is very comfortable in the owls of baby wipes to walk down. They have bathrooms downstairs and upstairs. The lobby is really nice and there's a lot of lightning. The backstage is why I hang out at the most several different places to change or prepare for your next event.

I was looking forward to this puppet show as they refer to it. It was creative, innovative and…read moreeducational. I loved the story they presented, the music was great and everyone loved the show. It's a little hairy getting to the actual location, as you have to walk along a very busy road on the UNC campus, and it's a narrow path to follow. I think they should figure out a safer way to enter the theatre, and they don't have safety railings on the steps getting in. But, I understand the theatre has been there a long time and I guess it works. Many of the puppets were ruined from the hurricane that came through here a few months back and a location near UNC volunteered to help rebuild the lost puppets and money was collected from the community. It's a wonderful example of community coming together to support such an amazing theater. I enjoyed the show and the interactive pieces were great for kids and adults.

This season they will have produced six shows just for the Raleigh area. So far this season has been amazing with West Side Story; Having Our Say and Kinky Boots. The final three shows are Memphis; Edges and The Sound of Music and I can't wait to see those. I think it is really great that local talent can showcase their abilities in the Triangle area. Some of the cast does comes from New York City but others cast members are from the Triangle area. The orchestra is local as well and the crews needed to put the shows together. It takes a lot of people to put together these shows and NC Theatre is great for the local economy. But most importantly great for those of us who love watching the performances.
