Several weeks ago I had the misfortune to be talked into going to Revolution Leadenhall by several friends of mine. A mistake I will NEVER be repeating, I assure you. After two drinks I went to the smoking area, had a cigarette and was informed by the security staff I was to leave the premises as I "appeared to be drunk". Two small glasses of wine made one appear to be drunk? Interestingly, I was the only gay guy with four ladies who as well had two glasses of wine each and yet none of THEM were singled out for "appearing to be drunk". Quelle interesting, indeed.. I didn't appear to be drunk to any of the cro magnon security staff when I dipped into my pocket and paid for two HIDEOUSLY overpriced rounds of drinks. When I politely asked the security staff for their names and SIA numbers, they refused (I once worked in security, you are to display your SIA badge and number at all times, NOT hide it when asked for the particulars). I was then confronted by someone who, for all I know, could have been bar staff or managerial staff, again, when I politely asked for the name and position of someone in authority I was imperiously told " *I* am the highest person here you will deal with". Great, then why won't you give me your name or.at the very least, your capacity/role?
In short, Revolution are happy to part you from your hard earned £££ and can throw you out for no discernable reason (in other words, for sh*ts and giggles if the security staff feel like copping an attitude). I tendered a written complaint via the Revolution website and received a most anaemic response, more or less siding with the thuggy door staff and saying they hope this doesn't jaundice my view of Revolution and I am welcome again, blah blah. Not even a TOKEN apology for staff witholding the information that security guards are obliged to provide!
Personally, if you want a GREAT night out with atmosphere, pleasant, all encompassing environment sans attitude, friendly bar and security staff, travel ten minutes down the road past Liverpool Street to a venue called "The Light" and give ANY branch of Revolution a miss. read more
