He always had a smile, always greeted me warmly, and from day one, I genuinely felt like I belonged. The tagline is "jiu-jitsu for everyone," and he truly lived that out. Sadly, he has passed, and I wanted to leave something here as a testament to who he was as a professor. His passion and dedication always showed. He once said, "The best professor is a professor that's happy to be there," and you felt that every single time he taught. If you're thinking about trying something new or stepping outside your comfort zone, I really do recommend this place. Professor Ulpiano made it more than a gym. He made it a community.

In that short amount of time, I can already tell that Main Street is the REAL DEAL. No fluff. No games. Just work. The two-story structure has 3 rings, 15+ heavy bags, and knowledgeable trainers. There is enough parking to accommodate the staff and students. This is not a gym where the instructors are going to hold your hand. But, as a beginner myself, we are welcome. If you listen to the instructions and try your best, you will learn the proper technique and become a better boxer, athlete, and person. I also appreciate how Main Street has its own App. Zen Planner is an iPhone and Android application that allows patrons to sign-up for a membership, pay gym fees, and keep track of the schedule. People have busy lives. Anything thing that makes working out easier is alright by me.

By, September I was the only woman in this time slot. In October, I was asked how I felt about them turning the class to male/female.. I had no problem. I was enjoying my classes with trainer Sergio even though the class lacked new attendees. As the holidays rolled around, I informed Sergio I would most likely not be attending until after New Years. Today is 1/8/19. After New Years, I come back to Slava and I am told Sergio is no longer an instructor and I will be in Jesse's class. Knowing the age of Sergio and being in college, I was not deterred by someone new. I quickly learned why I was later told to take the class before paying. The new instructor for their 5-6PM classes is garbage. I didn't even complete the hour because within the first half hour he told me to "practice on the bags" with no instruction. In fact he sat down on the mat looking at his phone while I spent ROUNDS of warming up. Keep in mind this is a instructed class and I was just doing something I can do by myself at a regular gym and pay less for. When I finally got fed up that the new instructor was just letting time pass, I walked over to the gym owner and asked what am I doing in this class, his new instructor was not interacting with me, he's not instructing. I was told "What do you expect?" and I had to TELL HIM "Well, it's a class! I expect interaction and to be taught something like the previous teacher did." He told me "It's your decision to pay to be here." and "You don't have to be part of this gym." With that response, I decided to no longer pay to be here. Slava boxing does not value it's members. The owner is unprofessional and rude. And for the record, during this conversation he was SMOKING! All the previous reviews are right, for owning a gym it's astounding he finds it okay to smoke inside of it. As I once enjoyed being part of this gym, I quickly learned the owner does not value the members of his gym. Previous reviews are telling and you should spend your money elsewhere.

I was their client for over a year. During my year at Slava I took the Women's Boxing class with Stacie Overholser. I'm a runner, and initially wanted something to supplement my regular workouts. I got leaner, stronger and my body fat percentage dropped significantly, I even got faster, shedding 11 minutes from my personal best half-marathon time. Her class was not easy by any standard, the first half was intense conditioning and the second part consisted mainly of bag and mitt work. As intense as it was, the camaraderie and support made the workouts fun and (a tiny bit) less painful. I had absolutely no upper body strength and couldn't even do 5 push-ups.... however, she pushed me, slowly building a foundation for all the upper body and core muscles I had neglected. Our class consisted of a group of women of all fitness levels, but all equally motivated to get a good workout (otherwise, why bother going?). As great as Stacie's class was there was no denying that the gym itself was lacking in a lot of areas. However, the class was so amazing, we were all willing to overlook the ridiculous parking situation (we constantly had to stop our workouts to move our cars, as you have to triple row park outside), we ignored the fact that the owner, Steve, liked to smoke in the gym, that there was only one restroom and that he didn't want to add a simple curtain to create an additional changing stall (for those of us that arrived to the gym straight from work), we also didn't care that we paid more than the other classes. Ultimately Steve and his new manager Sergio decided to cancel the Women's Class (with no warning) to make room for new classes (the fact that they didn't have any students in those classes doesn't seem to bother them). Their philosophy is not to keep their clients, but rather to sell you two very expensive classes (because most people don't go back) and not have to do much after that. The six week class they're so intent on selling you is not as intense as the women's class used to be, be ready for a lot of air punching and "stance" work (really). The trainers are nice though, they do what they can. So when you check out Slava, enjoy your one class with Steve (he'll ignore you after that) and try to stick to the six weeks.....otherwise, don't waste your money.

After going through countless phone calls and online searches, I found Meng's Martial Arts. Facility is clean, spacious and well maintained. Plenty of room for students to exercise and learn. Diverse class and Sifu Ryan usually has an extra set of helpers/assistants to assist the students. The staff is very attentive and gives a lot of emotional and physical support. The Tiny Tiger program (ages 4-7 I think) meet 3 times a week, for 45 minutes which I believe is great in addition to their reasonable prices! The class is more than just being physical and learning self defense. My son has learned to be more respectful and disciplined, to have more self control and awareness. His attitude has changed so much, and he's made new friends! Parents are more than welcome to lounge around in the lobby, or sit on the sidelines and observe the class. If you're looking for a martial arts class for your child (or yourself) this place is it! They're very open to new students, and have no issues answering any questions or concerns. I know my son is in great hands at this school.

My son started about 3 years ago in Tae Kwon do because he was being harassed at school. We started at another location until we met Master Julio at a tournament. My son has been at his school now for 2 years and I have nothing but positive things to say. Everything from convenient class times to how dedicated Master Julio is to all of his student no matter what level they may be. The school is set up in 3 levels the top being the Tae Kwon Do area, the middle floor is the waiting area and the bottom floor is for boxing and hop ki do(this is probably mispelled). The prices are very reasonable especially considering the amount of individual time he spend with the students.
