We noticed many animal items, horses, dogs, foxes, etc. on everything from pillows to jewelry. Some of the items were pretty pricey... I mean, $265 for a hand painted pillow is well, full of stuffing! We were greeted by an eccentric older lady, that truth be told, bared a striking resemblance to the Mad Hatter's sister, or perhaps Willy Wonka's female counterpart. Her personality was just as odd. She followed us around the shop dictating rules about photos and touching items, and rambling on and on describing her goods and explaining price points. She even told us, "I'm sorry but I'm weird about advertising my store." You're telling me and that's not all! I was incredibly irritated and put off by her hovering presence and at one point I turned around, with her at my heels, looked at her and expelled a heavy sigh! I was on the verge of telling her to back off when her store bell chimed and she plodded off to haunt another customer. It's a shame the owner was so intrusive and curt, because the store was interesting, mainly lamps, shades and finials with some unique household interiors as well. I don't mean to be throwing "shade", however, her rude manner and abrupt demeanor had me and my companions headed for the door! No sales for you!

Gordonsville Antique and Flea Market is the real deal!…read more Set in some sort of old steel building and looking a bit "budget" from the outside, it would be easy to dismiss this place and keep driving by - especially when you're headed towards Culpepper, which is decidedly more upscale. Even downtown Gordonsville has a few nicer looking antique stores. But don't be fooled. The proprietor of this place is a real Civil War buff, and he's got a great collection of things for sale. The last time I was in there I noted many interesting daguerrotypes, a few Civil War era handguns (including a derringer, a nice pin fire revolver and a Colt of some description), plenty of dug artifacts, and enough other curiosities to keep my interest for a good long while. He's a friendly fellow and willing to share his expertise, and I make a point of stopping by there every time I drive through now - for the education, if nothing else. So the Civil War stuff is kept up at the front, understandably under close eye. The rest of the store has the usual "rented booths" for people to sell all manner of antiques. Again, I was a bit surprised with the quality of the items I was seeing. As is usually the case, one has to patiently wade through a lot of junk to find the treasures, but they're there and they're reasonably priced. If I had to lump this place into a certain "category", I'd say that it's the kind of place where you go in without expectation and come out delighted with some ersatz find that you would never have anticipated. Of course, if you're looking for something that is just-so, it's worth a stop too ...

My hubby tried out several guitars and was tempted to purchase one! We had a blast going to all the vendor booths and searching for treasures and saying "oh we had that!" Or "remember those!" I loved the front of the store with all of the large figures and the cool mural! The prices were decent and the folks were friendly! If you love antiquing and thrifting, you'll love this spot!

Although I looked over the dresser, opened the drawers, etc., I did not move all the lamps and many assorted knick knacks. I then paid for the dresser and made arrangements to pick it up the following day. When I returned to pick it up, there was a VERY LARGE split in the wood, ALL the way across the entire top of the dresser and way too wide to repair by any method. This major damage had been covered by the runner, the lamps and the knick knacks. So . . . Usually, normally, sellers will be transparent about damage, flaws, chips, cracks etc., and then it's up to the buyer to move forward with the purchase or not. Because the damage was so extensive, I did not think the dresser could be transported without breaking completely in two. Because the damage was hidden/concealed, I felt deceived. I pointed this out to the staff, who launched into their "no refunds" spiel before I could even finish my sentence. I was rather abruptly offered to the "opportunity" to leave the dresser (and my $400) behind if I no longer wanted it. Still, I extend Kudos to Twice Is Nice for serving seniors in need!! Thank you to the volunteers who offer their time. Thank you to the folks who donate. If an item is damaged, you don't have to attach flashing lights or a neon sign, but it's not "nice" to cover it up, then pile it high with multiple heavy items making the damage almost impossible to detect until too late to make an informed purchase decision.
