We signed a contract with USA Fence for $24,000, with payments to be made in three installments of $8,000. I promptly paid the initial $8,000 deposit, and both the owner and I signed the contract.
Several weeks later, I received a text message stating that our fence would be delivered by the end of the week and that installation was scheduled to begin shortly after. Then, just five days before the scheduled installation, the owner called and informed me that after reviewing his costs, he realized he had underbid the project. He demanded an additional $5,000 before he would begin the work.
I explained that we had a signed contract that both parties had agreed to and that any estimating error was not my responsibility. Instead of honoring the signed agreement, he chose to cancel the project altogether.
And if you are wondering Yes, I did receive our deposit back, but that does not erase the significant inconvenience this caused. The in-ground pool installation had already begun based on the agreed timeline and were suddenly left scrambling to find another fencing contractor. This delayed our project, and created unnecessary stress, and put us in a difficult position. To this day, we are still without a fencing contractor because of the time that was lost.
Many people believe that once you have a signed contract with a reputable company, you are protected. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. A signed contract should provide peace of mind, not uncertainty.
If you are considering this company, I would encourage you to ask how they handle situations where they discover they underbid a project after contracts have already been signed. Our experience was disappointing, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend USA Fence.
