I'm only giving this place a second star because my first experience here was really good. But I am sitting here now in tears because my hair looks so bad. And I'm getting married in 2 weeks. I went in wanting a trim and some long bangs. I did ask for my eyebrows to show, but he cut them in a U shaped pattern. So there is a good inch of my forehead showing just in the middle. They're so horrifically uneven. I look like a female Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber. I asked him to cut the longer parts of my hair to frame my face more. He barely did that... and even that is uneven. He has never given me a cut or color that didn't get a compliment. Sure there are per bigger, flashier, and "hip" establishments around Astoria and Manhattan per se, but for the price and quality of work you'll never go wrong with Roni. The only time that I've strayed was when I was given a gift certificated for a high end well-known salon in the city. Used it and hated it, after a week I went back to Roni and have my hair repaired. Roni did an amazing job. I was so over the blonde I had in my hair (from someone else). My hair was damaged from the bleach and I just wanted to get as close to my natural hair color as possible to get the blonde out and he did just that. He is a perfectionist and very precise with his work and in explaining what he has to do to get the result you want and why. This place is a hidden gem in the heart of Astoria. After moving to the area several months ago I've been on the hunt for a nice salon where I could get a moderately priced cut by a stylist who is both experienced and knowledgeable. My fiance and I went to several of the "luxury" salons in the area and after overpaying for such mediocre cuts we are both extremely happy that we stumbled upon Reve Studio. We walked in on a Saturday morning after this year's first real snow storm. It was a gorgeous day and we were both in need of a dire hair cut and style. Ronnie was there to greet us and booked us for the next spots a half hour later. The location is small but has all the amenities of any other salon that we've visited. I had a general consultation with Ronnie before he started to cut my hair, talked to him about what I wanted and even prepared a few photos as examples of my expectations. He kept me informed the entire way through my hair cut even pointing out mistakes the last stylist had made. I felt so comfortable with him and had such confidence in his ability already. My cut and style turned out amazing. It's 3 weeks after my first experience at Reve studio and will be visiting again this weekend for another great hair session with Ronnie! read more

I've walked by a bunch but the chair was always taken... I figured it was a good sign, and decided to wait until there was availability. My hair got pretty long, but when I finally saw my opportunity, I hopped in. My cut was well worth the wait. The owner/stylist, Ronnie, was a great guy, and took me right away. $25 for a men's cut, and worth every penny. I asked for a specific clipper size ("2") on the sides and then said "keep it longer on top and fade it"... Directions were followed to a tee, and I'm SUPER happy with how my hair looks. I've tried other local stylists and barbers in Astoria.... Had my fair share of $10 cuts and visits to your run of the mill barber. Réve Studio proves the old addage true, you indeed het what you pay for. Sure they are cheaper, but they can't compare to Ronnie, he was worth every penny, and I'll come back to him as long as he stays in the neighborhood (heck, I'd probably follow him to another)! I moved to Astoria from Los Angeles, and have been searching far and wide for a new place to get my hair cut... I finally found it, at Réve Studio!! read more

OK, to say my hair is "thick" is an extreme understatement! So naturally, it is difficult for me to find someone who knows what the heck they are doing. I was walking around Astoria today and noticed a new salon. I really dug the name which means "dream." After I spoke to the owner, he made me feel confident that he was up to the task of reshapping my locks into a "do" that would not only suit my face but also work with the texture of my hair. I'm really glad I took a chance on this place, as it totally paid off. I have found a new hair stylist who actually listens to me when I describe what I want, and also has the chops to make it happen. The reason I needed a new stylist is because I'm actually growing my hair out, which is not the same as chopping it all off, as I usually do. My mother and I have been going to Roni (owner) for my color and our cuts since i was in early high school and im 23 now. I will literally not let anyone touch my hair unless it his him. He has never failed me when it comes to color. He is a hair genius. Even if you dont know exactly what kind of style you want, he will leave you looking amazing and his prices are right! The service is always professional and never rushed! My brother even joins us now too to get his hair cut with Roni...btw did I mention we travel from Manhattan? I could not be more disappointed as the owner Roni wrecked my hair. During my first salon visit Roni was lovely, he cut and toned my hair and I was pleased. If only I had stopped there. But alas, I did not, and I let him talk me into coming back the next weekend for highlights. I couldn't have been more clear about my desire for subtle, low maintenance, natural highlights, and he led me to believe he understood my vision. He did not. Roni completely bleached out my hair in these odd, over-processed, uneven stripes, and he missed a huge spot right in the front of my hairline, which he did try to fix the next day. He upcharged me from a half head to a full head and he toned my hair a second time, without telling me, which resulted in a bill so much higher than I anticipated. Roni's advice to me was unprofessional when I calmly and respectfully pointed out the un-highlighted spots in the front, he advised me not to wear my hair up, so his errors wouldn't be so apparent, I assume. He then created another problem when he re-toned my hair a second time in one week, which resulted in a muddy, grey, ashy color and straw-like feel. And when he added those new highlights in the front, he re-re-toned yet again (a third time), but that didn't take, so they were brighter yellow, while the rest of my hair was ashy and grey. His attitude changed once I (again, respectfully) noted I was unhappy with my hair, he became defensive, telling me that his work was beautiful and I was just not seeing that. His advice to me then was to go and buy a clarifying shampoo at a drugstore to fade the grey toner. Awful. My hair is now so damaged and dry that it began to break off and fall out. I spent over $400 at Reve salon, which he did not offer to refund me, I had to go back twice for fixes that created more problems, and now it is costing me hundreds more to have my hair treated at another salon nearby. I hope my long tale of follicle woe is helpful and that everyone thinks twice before booking a color appointment with Roni at Reve. read more

A good stylist is hard to find. A great stylist is near impossible to find. Roni is an amazing stylist, a down to earth dude, and all around great guy. I usually walk in looking like Donald Trump just got out of a wind tunnel, and leave looking (feeling) like that damn Ryan Gosling in Crazy Stupid Love. I always call ahead and he is always on time. This ain't supercuts -- but it is damn affordable! And I appreciate that. An amazing value for such good/honest service. If you don't feel like bothering those pretentious a-holes at Gigi Salon and wasting their precious time, do yourself a favor and go to Reve. read more

I love this place. Roni is fabulous. He is really honest and cuts until your hair is healthy to help it grow stronger and longer. A lot of girls from work went to him...from Manhattan mind you. I had 5 year old locks that had been through three sessions of highlights and two years of California scorching sunshine. They were hurting....frayed and split at the ends but I was in total denial. Roni didn't just give me the little trim I had been getting from other half hearted stylists charging three times his price. He gave me the cut I needed to get back to healthy hair. Over the last year I have been going every 8-12 weeks to get a trim. Yesterday my former roommate commented on how long and healthy my hair looked. If you want long luscious hair come here. It was all my fault...I didn't tell Tania what I wanted....I came in wanting to go grey...she told me it couldn't be done because of the damage I already had...I was ok with that..she dyed it one color which was great...then we decided to do some highlights...natural baylage highlights I was told..well the front was golden orangey...the back white and more damaged than when I came in....I should have stopped while I was ahead...I sent her a message telling her I didn't like it...I was too embarrassed to tell her while I was in the salon....she did tell me to call her but after being there for 6 hours I just dyed it myself a few days ago....the hair cut was good read more

Roni is by far the best stylist I have ever had. I mostly see women in the shop, so I was a little hesitant to go in for a men's cut, but I am very happy I did. Roni listens, does exactly what I want, and is very consistent. I have never had a bad cut, and all of his recommendations have turned out great. I have tried many other stylists in Astoria and Manhattan, including much more expensive ones, but Roni is by far my favorite. Others tended to take too much off when I explicitly asked them not to, and have been very inconsistent. My girlfriend was so impressed with my hair that she started coming to Reve Studio from Manhattan for her hair. We both cannot recommend Roni highly enough. read more

I specifically showed a picture with long hair and top and I have NOTHING to work with. This place is good if you have no ideas and you want them to take care of you. I hate to say this because the owner was so sweet and nice, Ronnie, but I got some pretty skunk like highlights there. I showed pictures of beautiful blended highlights that blend into the root and that's not what I got. Although the price was the more competitive (like half price) than the Redken salon and the Aveda salon you do not get the same quality. I ended up walking straight to Redken Saloon and getting my highlights blended with low lights at the root. I had a stylist and two assistants squeeze me in and they said I had a couple dots in the back of my head that looked like bald spots, which means he dripped bleach in a few spots and didn't notice. Everyone who was there to get a cut seemed super happy and it was quick. That's why I gave two stars. But don't go for highlights. read more
