I was only going to be in Brevard for a little over two months and I wanted a gym that was affordable and would support my short stay. I told the manager my whole ordeal and she told me she could make my membership easy and affordable by letting me come in for the time I was in Brevard (last week of May, June, July, and first week of August) and only pay for June and July. She also gave me a student discount. I was thrilled! At the end of the summer, though, I realized I had been charged for the month of August when I was promised I wouldn't be. I called the gym and they told be I was wrong to believe that. I'm sorry? It's not my fault that I was promised something and then they did not follow through on that. I am a young person with not a lot of money, so the month's fee is significant for me! I asked for a refund and I was told that that wasn't possible. I, obviously, thought this was ridiculous and expressed that to the employee on the phone. I was told he would speak to the owner and see what he could do but most likely I wouldn't get the refund. I waited 2 weeks for a phone call from them and heard nothing. I eventually got a friend who is close with the business to look into it for me. He told me management would call me the next day. No call. Its been another 2 weeks. Not going to lie, I'm pretty mad about it. This is a prime example of a business taking advantage of a customer. It is not my fault that I was given the wrong information and I know what I heard when I signed up. Just bad customer service all the way around and I'm extremely disappointed. Would not recommend.

On the return trip to the desk, I looked around to assess the equipment--nice! However, when I presented at the desk, I met Chantelle--not a client-facing soul. She, in full umbrage that I had passed her invisible and unbeknownst-to-me boundary, chided my friend as well as me that we were never to pass "her" desk into "her" gym without checking in. Not really a polite greeting in my estimation of customer service. Mine was an error of innocence, but her patronizing tone and scolding were uncalled for. So, in a feeble attempt to de-escalate, I expressed my interest in a one-month membership. She then demanded that I sign and fill in my personal information on your waiver (not a problem at all), but the harshness, peremptory tone, and patronizing were just too offensive. Where was the "Thank you for coming in, how may I help you?" or the "I would love to know more about your needs for a gym, and cannot wait to show you around if you would kindly fill in the waiver" politeness? Not a peep. Just shoving the screen at me to satisfy her immediate needs and no interest in me as a person, much less a customer. We left as fast as possible. Want to be a douche-bro bodybuilder or the type that posts stealth pictures of others that are trying to get healthy? Go to Gold's or just plain go home. If, though, you are looking for a friendly, encouraging, protective, non-judgmental, lunkhead-free place, let me recommend the Hendersonville YMCA. So, let's start at the very beginning; the moment you walk, expect to be treated like a human being by both the staff and volunteers. If you ask for one, expect to receive a facilities tour that is detailed, that will cover all expectations of their services, equipment, programs, and general member-offerings. So now you have an idea of what the Y offers, and decide to pull the trigger and get a membership. Rather than have them tornado you with a bunch of confusing plans (emphasizing the most expensive), they'll take the time to ask questions such as how often you'll be using their facilities, do you have kids, a spouse, will any of them be on the plan, what are your future plans, what do you expect to have? Since they aren't commision driven, you'll be presented with one, possibly two options that will best fit your needs and budget. And the best part? No need to give them a blank, signed check "for the routing number", like the other place. They're part of the 21st century, and able to link to your credit card or checking account. Now, let's talk about the facilities. Admittedly, the equipment is neither new or on the cutting edge. But I'm of the school-of-thought that it doesn't need to be, and find most of what you see for sale in sports equipment stores or see advertised as being nothing more than marketing attempts to start/cash-in on a fad. Instead, what's available is working and well-maintained. And from your tour, you'll see that there is a large variety, that will definitely cover your exercise needs. The swimming pool is very well maintained and always comfortably warm. I don't like the amount of chlorine that is used. But seeing that everyone from infants to older-than-toddlers share the pool, it's kind of necessary. Something should be said about the parking lot, provided by the Y; mainly the idea that when you leave your vehicle, it won't be broken into, unlike the other place. The bottom line is this: if you need a place that will help you get into a healthy shape, or even maintain, give them a serious look-into.
