Living in the Mont Albert/Surrey Hills area, one of the bugbears I have is that there aren't that many 'good' cafes in the area. There are plenty around, but in the recent boom that we've seen in Melbourne, many in the area appear to be second rate compared to the new-wave of cafe. Reunion is hopefully the first of many to replicate that same feeling you get in the city in the 'burbs.
Situated near Surrey Hills Station, one of the great aspect is the whole shopfront is windows, with 70% of them also able to be folded away to let in the fresh breeze on nice days! There is plenty of space, and the staff there were delightful.
Coffee is supplied by Atomica, with the baristas operating a grand-spanking-new LaMarzocco machine. I haven't come across much to do with Atomica beans, and whilst it was the best coffee I've had, it definitely did the job.
The menu was a lot more impressive however. Very simple, with breakfast and lunch offerings put into one to create a whole-day menu. I was able to try the soft-shell crab tacos, which were delicious! The cost of the meals vary wildly, some at the more than affordable price of $10, and others approaching $25! It's great it can provide an option for everyone. read more
