Ginny is more than just an (incredible) photographer - she is a wedding day advocate, a timeline-keeper, a shoe-put-on-er, and an amazing friend to have by your side on the most important day of your life. We hired Ginny to come down to Cabo with us to shoot our destination wedding, and while the logistics were a little complicated (for everyone), the photography was not. Ginny and Meo sweated it out through 90 degree heat and 60% humidity - helping us hike up our dresses when we were hot, keeping my gigantic dress off of cacti and out of the fountains, and generally keeping our spirits high. The wedding was beautiful, but honestly spending time with Ginny and Meo taking photos was one of the highlights for both of us. Suffice to say, hire Ginny. Where do I begin... I found Ginny during the Summer of 2013 pretty soon after my husband proposed. Like most newly engaged brides I was super excited about the process of wedding planning and finding an amazing photographer was at the top of my priority list. Why? Because these are the photos that will be shared with our closest family members and friends and some day to our future children and grandchildren. I reached out to her that Summer and her communication was very prompt, however, my husband and I had a sudden turn of events that led us to end up getting married at the local courthouse. I let Ginny know that our plans had changed and had hoped to reconnect with her in the future. Fast forward a year and a half later. Everyone around us is getting married and engaged and posting their storybook photos on Facebook and Instagram. I loved my small wedding, but my one regret was not having beautiful photographs. So I convinced my husband that we needed some professional photos taken. I looked into a handful of photographers that friends and relatives had used, but I kept going back to Ginny's Facebook page and website. Ginny's photos are natural and let me tell you she doesn't take a bad photo. With slight hesitation that Ginny might reject my idea for a post-wedding shoot I reached out to her. She remembered me from my first inquiry and said she would be happy to do the shoot. Over the course of a couple of weeks we finalized all the details. I chose to have the photos done at the Ravenswood Historical Site in Livermore. On the day of the shoot Ginny met us right on time at the site. She made us feel at ease from the first moment we met her. She is a naturally friendly and engaging person. She told us not to worry and that she would instruct us on what to do. So for two hours we followed her lead. We absolutely loved working with her! Even my husband commented how much fun he had at the shoot. We photographed in 3 different outfits and took advantage of all the amazing backdrops that the Ravenswood site had to offer. The next day we got an email with about 8-10 photos (a preview of what was to come). Both my husband and I were blown away at the photos they looked even better than I had imagined them. Three weeks later we received the whole set. The package we selected guaranteed us at least 40 images and Ginny sent us over 150 images. They are so stunning! And everyone has commented on how much they love them! We could not be happier with Ginny and the photos. My husband has already requested we use her for a maternity shoot when the time comes if you get the opportunity to work with her I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. Ginny is the best. My husband and I came across some of her photos and couldn't stop gushing over her beautiful use of light and framing. She has a way of capturing those fleeting moments you'll always want to remember in such a thoughtful and lovely way. Ginny, you had me at penguins and sausage suits... Literally, that was how the first conversation that my husband and I had with Ginny went when we met her for our consultation. And she had us as clients at that point. The minute we got engaged, I went on on frenzy trying to lock down a photographer. Photography was very important to us and the photographer I initially wanted to book was booked a year and 3 months out. She gave me some recommendations with Ginny being on the list. At that point, I must have met with about 10 photographers and emailed about 20 of them. When I browsed through Ginny's portfolio, I noticed something very different with her work. Lover of light? Check! Soft, romantic style? Check! Meticulous to detail? Check! But what stood out was what her photos made me feel. I'll never forget seeing one of her photos and tearing up at the image of a stranger embracing her father. It wasn't just one photo. Ginny has a rare talent of documenting not just the moment but an emotion behind the moment. This prompted a meeting with her to see if we as a couple was a good fit with her. If you go through her portfolio, not 1 photo album look alike. They are unique and catered to that couple. Ginny is hard working and will go through brushes (literally) and hoops in order to get a good shop for you. You know that ridiculous meme of those photographers laying in puddles to get a specific angle and effect of a photo. I could see Ginny doing something wild like that to get her shot. For ours, she braved through questionable dried brushes, where snake sightings were forewarned and got on some wonky stools to get an aerial shot of the bridal party. Gotta love her. She stuck by my stringent timeline to the tee. And got some incredible shots. Our family and all of our friends were in awe of her work. They kept gushing how they could feel the joy and love in her photos. We were speechless. When we got back our photos, I never thought wedding photos would make me cry the way our did. But somehow Ginny managed to capture the most poignant and cool shots. Not to mention the most meaningful and minuet details that even I didn't think of capturing. For instance on my bouquet, laid a locket with my grandmother's photo in it. I kept her close because she passed away about 12 years ago. She somehow found it on my bouquet, opened it and shot a photo of my grandmother. It moved me to tears. Ginny's photo made my grandmother's memory into her presence at our wedding. I have been following Ginny's work for a couple of years now (mainly on Facebook) and every single time she posts new images, they are just prefect! So it was no secret and no hesitation to pick ask my favorite photo artist to do my wedding boudoir shoot for me. Unfortunately, Ginny's in Northern Cali and I'm in Southern Cali. But I didn't mind dishing out the extra $$$ for the plane tickets for a day trip up to meet Ginny and complete the shoot. My husband and I found Ginny on Yelp and I feel so fortunate that we did. We coordinated a maternity photo shoot over email and she made the process extremely easy and seamless. Ginny was the perfect match to our wedding, which was low key, outdoors, super intimate and very memorable. She and her assistant were absolutely phenomenal! During the ceremony, they worked their magic in total stealth. Then afterwards, she took care and detail to capture our photos. She even kept asking if we wanted to do more or any more shoots or poses. Our ceremony was short, so it left a lot of time for pictures. Ginny is absolutely wonderful! If you are looking for a photographer that does natural and candid well, then Ginny is your girl! We booked Ginny for our wedding back in September and she did not disappoint! She was easy to work with, flexible with our schedules (I was an out-of-town bride) and her work was phenomenal. I think her price was fair for the quality of work she produces. Her pictures look like they are straight out of a magazine. She never made us feel awkward or rehearsed and our pictures turned out great! She worked quickly and was dedicated to get the best shots (climbing in dirt and poking out from behind trees lol). What I also love about her is that she stuck to the timeline and never "intruded" on our big day. She was in the background snapping away, what I now know to be, amazing candids of my husband and I and our guests. Her candids of me and my grandfather brought me to tears. I will try to put into words how amazing Ginny is.... our family was not having an ideal day for photos. I didn't think I would even have enough good photos for a Christmas card. Nevertheless, Ginny managed to get not just 5, 10, or even 20 good photos. She got over 200 beautiful photos of us...!!! Her ability to catch us in natural ways, and her editing- ok.. I am completely mesmerized by the photos Ginny took of my daugher and I. I wanted to have some 1 year baby photos taken of my little one, but am not a fan of the traditional photo packages you get at the mall, etc. - I was looking for something different ;) Ginny is fantastic! Ginny was absolutely amazing! I did a lot of research before reaching out to any of the photographers I chatted with because I was getting married in a redwood forest and I really wanted someone who would be able to capture the majestic background as well as the human moments between the party attendees. Ginny had a fabulous collection I previewed online and she was able to send me some shots of other weddings she had done in similar forests. Once we chatted on the phone I clicked with her immediately. I felt very comfortable both with her skills (she was one of the few photographers to explicitly talk about light and how she thought about it and incorporated it into her shots) and with her personality. The day-of was great. She was very easy going but also very direct in how to pose and what to do, which was super useful and made the whole thing much easier. She also was able to update/change her timeline when the order of things got mixed up. Her second photographer was also fantastic. She did a wonderful job photographing my husband and his groomsmen getting ready and she worked really well with Ginny. We are so happy with our decision with choosing Retrospect as our photographer for our wedding. Not only was Ginny the most awesome photographer, she was able to make us feel comfortable in front of a camera. I found her through facebook because a friend liked her page and one of her photos popped up on my newsfeed. I fell in love with her style and decided I must have her as my wedding photographer. She would always respond to emails in a timely matter. We ended up getting the photo package that included the engagement session. My husband and I were a little nervous for the engagement photos because we have never had a photo shoot before, but she was able to make it fun and make us laugh and feel comfortable in front of the camera. The day of the wedding she showed up right on time with her husband (her assistant) and also an extra assistant to help her out. She made the whole day super easy and organized. She made us laugh and feel comfortable. She is really good at directing and posing so you don't have to think about what to do next. Everyone I talked to were super impressed with Ginny because she's pretty pregnant and she went all day and was able to still stand by the end of the night. At one point, they said, they saw her on the ground crawling trying to capture the perfect photo. We received our photos early and we could not be any happier with them. They are beautiful and really captured the details of the wedding. I also really love all the candid photos she captured. She is really good at capturing a moment and you can tell she loves what she does. I cannot rate Ginny and Mike highly enough. I will be the first to admit that I am a difficult person to please. In the last three years, only five pictures of me have been taken because I am notorious for hating to have my picture taken. Also, I was one of those brides with an artistic eye and a non-artistic photography budget. Ginny and Mike came to my venue two and a half hours before the wedding and even drove with us to another location to take photos in a field with the wedding party after it was all over....something like a 10 hour day!! They are both so easy to work with and so genuinely friendly that you forget that they're technically working for you and you just want to hang out with them. Of course, all of this would be semi-meaningless unless the finished product was good AND IT IS. Ginny included an engagement shoot in the package and we were so impressed with the colors in those shots, but they pale in comparison to the wedding photos. This is a way overdue review, primarily because it is not easy for me to sum up how much I adore Ginny of Retrospect Images. Ginny (and her awesome husband, Michael) shot our wedding last year and we couldn't have made a better choice! Ginny was the only wedding photographer we met with and we knew moments after meeting her that it was a good fit. I did not know then that she was an avid sloth-lover, like myself - but it must have been fate. Or her talent. Maybe both. ;) My husband and I were not always easy or pleasant to deal with (realizing shortly after we decided to hold a wedding that we weren't "wedding people" at all) and had a mini meltdown that Ginny dealt with in stride. Our images are gorgeous and each time we look at them, our hearts sing (which is really the most important part). I sort of loathe having pictures taken of me, but Ginny made me feel comfortable, which was so beyond helpful when you are a combination of socially awkward and holding an event where you are supposed to be the center of attention! We had a private ceremony with our officiant and had Ginny sign as our witness. I knew when we chose to do this that I would always remember her not only as our photographer, but as an integral member of our legal union - I would not have asked any ol' photographer to do this, but Ginny is so likable that we knew we would always reflect positively on her contributions, both professionally and personally. Ginny was receptive to feedback, open to ideas, lightning fast, and a breath of fresh air in the wacky world of wedding vendors. If you're looking for someone with a keen eye, an enormous talent, and a big heart - look no further! I'm taking a break from being a wedding insider and turning into a wedding reviewer because Ginny is just that good. Seriously, I have never written a review for another vendor, but having done over a hundred weddings in the past 5 years it's easy to tell when a person is just above and beyond. Most importantly, obviously her images are gorgeous and speak for themselves. My review is based mostly on the personality and professionalism side of things the average bride would never see but ultimately notice/ feel. For reference, I am a wedding videographer and have worked with 100+ photographers over the years. Ginny is at the top of the list and one of the few who integrates warmly and effortlessly with the video team. She can balance being "in charge" when it comes to groups and couple's photos while still being present. Specifically I remember one series of large group photos that had to be knocked out one after the other. In that moment, rather than just focusing on what she needed to do (normal), she had the presence of mind to turn and ask if we needed anything and did it with a smile. Her warmth is genuine no matter whom she's around and this was a relief. She hasn't let her success affect how she treats people around her and although that may not be at the top of your list when researching photographers, believe me it is HUGE in how the overall bridal party + team of vendors get along on the day of. Her photos alone are top-notch, but if you're curious about personality and collaboration with other vendors (specifically video) on the day of, then take it from an insider: she is the best in every aspect. read more
