Two months ago, I was in DESPERATE need of having an ingrown nail dealt with so I just went to the closest place to home--this was it. I have been there twice and have been seen by 2 of their doctors and am very pleased. Staff helpful and friendly. VERY CLEAN!!! My first surgical procedure went seamlessly. Today I had a second and am expecting more good results. No extra waiting in the office, both times I walked out happy. I would not hesitate to tell a friend to go there. And FYI, they take Medicare and they sell diabetic shoes and foot supplies. read more

I don't normally write reviews but decided to do so because I had exceptional care here. Recently I developed a progressively painful swelling on the bottom of my foot. As an active person, I knew I needed to get medical help. The Reston Foot and Ankle Center is conveniently and centrally located with ample parking. It is in a garden style complex with lovely trees all around. I was evaluated by Dr. Gordon and he examined my foot, took diagnostic x-rays and explained in detail what was wrong (inflammation around the Sesamoid bones--who knew such small bones could cause such problems?). Dr. Gordon was very kind and sympathetic and throughout my care (as I have had a few appointments with appropriate interventions), was open to discussing options and alternatives. When a specific walking boot was prescribed (to take pressure off that area), Dr. Gordon listened compassionately when I explained that I used exercise to keep another health issue in check. Instead of dismissing that, I was treated respectfully and kindly and Dr. Gordon gave me options regarding ways to exercise without further aggravating the foot. That was a relief because I felt like I was caught between the proverbial rock and hard place but with a bum foot. The other staff are also very kind and professional. As I write this, my foot continues to heal and I am confident that I am on the right path. I would recommend this practice to anybody experiencing foot or ankle problems. read more

I came in with very bad pain caused by osteoarthritis. Dr. Hafner's answer was expensive orthotics which I finally purchased. They made no difference. I was nickel and dimed with every little pad they put in my shoe. I was also given a cortisone shot which did not help at all. The office is very outdated. Good for an ingrown toenail. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! First, let me preface this review by stating that the medical care that I received from the doctors and the nursing team was great! They were very responsive and attentive to the bone spurs in my foot and provided good recommendations and solutions to my issue! However, I found the billing and administrative side of the company to be very deceiving! I went to Reston Foot and Ankle with the knowledge that I needed orthopedic shoe inserts to help mitigate and correct the bone spurs/arthritis in my right foot. After the consultation, it was recommended that I order new orthotics. I was initially skeptical because I know how expensive orthopedic insert can be, and I knew that due to personal reasons, I would be leaving my employer and thus health insurer. I voiced my concerns of the cost with both the doctor and billing staff, who both assured me that if insurance did not cover the cost of the orthotics that the cost would be $650 "out of pocket". To ensure that I could pay the cost of the inserts it was required that I put down a minimum of half ($300) of the out of pocket costs. This made sense to me because they were going to try to bill me through my insurance and if the service wasn't covered, only then I would pay the remaining "out of pocket" charge. However, what they failed to mention was that they would bill my insurance, aka still me, a substantially higher amount than they would have billed me without insurance. I think it's important to reiterate, so the options are: either bill you with insurance ($650) or bill you without insurance ($1200). The end result is that you (the patient) is still being charged!! As a result of the office billing my insurance plan over $500 more than they would have billed without insurance, my ending balance is over $300 higher than it would have been had I not had insurance at all. Again, it's important to reiterate, if I (the patient) went in and said that I had no insurance coverage, the office will attempt to bill significantly less than if you inform then that you do have insurance. How is that legal?? Well insurance works as a safety net to ensure that you are not charge an excessive amount. For example, if Reston Foot and Ankle changed my insurance company $1000, but charged me without insurance $2000, then I would only be responsible for the $1000 balance. Either way, the underlining person being charged is the patient, because either the patient is responsible for paying a higher balance or a higher insurance premium, if that is even an option. Also, it is obvious that the overall cost of making the orthopedic insert is less than $650, otherwise the out of pocket cost would be higher. I voiced these concerns to the office and was told that it was my fault for selecting the wrong insurance plan, even though it was the only one offered through my employer. I've also received numerous threatening phone calls and mail demanding payment, despite the fact that I made a payment last month, and have attempted to contact the office to set up a payment plan to cover the additional charges. In closing, DO NOT go to this office!! Save yourself the money and headache because they will charge you the absolute maximum that they can for a service that so obviously costs less than what it takes to produce! They will assure you one thing to get you in the door, only to turn around and charge you a completely different amount, which really is a shame because the actual medical professionals are very knowledgeable. read more

Everyone in the office is nice but I don't feel that I was really having my issues addressed. To start I had a large lump that formed on the heel of my foot, that I was told was a hernia, with no X-ray of any kind on either of my visits. I was also having ankle issues, which were diagnosed as a possible deltoid ligament and the only treatment I was given were home exercises and two fairly expensive braces that have only provided minimal relief. I decided to call and go see my former podiatrist up in Baltimore for my foot issue, who looked at it and laughed when I told him the diagnosis of a hernia in my heel. He immediately X-rayed and showed me that I had a fluid sac there that could possibly be shrunk with a cortisone injection. One day later that lump is almost gone from the injection. Amazing! I guess I'll need to make an appointment to see my orthopedic in baltimore as well on my ankle to get a proper diagnosis and some relief. I feel like I was just being strung along for more appointments rather than being treated and having my issues resolved. More appointments equals more money at this office. read more

During an office visit, I was given a walking boot as part of my treatment for plantar fasciitis. Reston Podiatry Associates billed my insurance $500 for the boot. My insurance allowed $243.10. The exact same boot can be had on Amazon, from multiple sellers, for around $40. I had not met my deductible for the year, so this gouging cost me over $200 out of pocket. It was explained to me that I'd signed a generic form stating that I would pay whatever amount my insurance didn't cover. But, I had mistakenly assumed that ethical procedures would be followed. Billing 12.5 times the cost of the boot, even if my insurance accepted only 6 times the retail cost, is outrageous, in my opinion. I attempted to return a completely unused boot, but they would not accept it. Apparently, since I left the office with it, it was unreturnable. Had I had any inkling what they were going to charge, I would not have taken it. The staff told me repeatedly that it was my insurance company that set the rate. Then why did they try to charge $500? To squeeze as much as they could out of an unsuspecting patient and/or his insurance company, in my opinion. This is just wrong. The staff could not have been more indignant about it. Lesson learned. Always ask how much a practice will bill for even the most common, easy to get items. I have been to other podiatrists that marked up over-the-counter orthotics, for example, but only by 10 or 20% max (quite reasonable), but not by 500%. read more

I really like Dr. Gordon's bedside manner in dealing with my teenage son, kudos! I never felt rushed through an appointment. Nor, has he ever made me feel like just a number. I have had bouts of plantars faciatis for years. In December of 2015 I had the worst one yet. I went to another podiatrist in Herndon at least once a month for a year and had no relief at all, just an empty wallet. I saw Dr. Gordon in August of 2016 and he is a miracle worker. He used a sonogram machine to make sure the injection he gave was going in the right spot. Then his nurse taped my foot for even more relief. I walked out of the office pain free for the first time in months. I have ordered orthodics and am looking forward to walking and not worrying about the pain returning. Only after seeing Dr. Gordon for achilles tendonitis several years ago did I find the true value of a great podiatrist. He was instrumental in my journey through that painful time, and I learned a great deal about proper foot care. I was also fitted for orthotics (which I'd always considered an 'old lady' thing), and ultimately my feet have never felt better! Over the years, I had a few more made, and trade them off in my shoes. I also learned valuable information about the type of shoe to look for....as a lady, I knew that high heels were bad, but even lower ones without the proper construction/arch support aren't great either.) I thank Dr. Gordon for his patience with my questions, and helping me to have healthier feet. You know how everything is better when your feet don't hurt!! Visited Reston Foot & Ankle at Leesburg location, as they accepted Anthem Insurance. Was a bit surprised by the run down, basement level office, but apparently it is only a part time office and primary is in Reston. Visit 1) No x-rays or anything, wrapped foot, experienced improvement, but not completely pain free over the next week. Also, discussed orthotics during visit. Visit 2) Took molds for orthotics. Since insurance didn't cover them, I was advised of cap on expense of $550. Note: I was required to contact my insurance company about coverage, rather than the doctor's office, which seemed a bit odd to me. Visit 3) Received call that the orthotics were ready. I was required to drive to the Reston office as Leesburg office couldn't accommodate pick up for several weeks. Brought both my dress and running shoes with me, as I had explained to doctor that dress shoes cause most pain. Doctor slid them into my running shoes, gave me a pamphlet and told me if these worked we could do some for my dress shoes too. Not what doctor #1 told me in Leesburg. Was surprised to get an additional bill for picking up the product. Called in to inquire. Staff member was going to check with doctor and call me back, but advised that if you talk to a doctor, you get a bill. Next day, got call from different staff member to "make sure I had received my bill." Still haven't heard back from anyone about my inquiry as to why I was charged to pick up a product that was supposed to be paid in full. I didn't request to see the doctor, they requested to see me. Based on outward appearance of both offices and chasing down a $47 bill that was less than 30 days from issue, I wonder about their financial stability or if revenue takes priority over patient care. FYI, the orthotic has provided some relief, but hasn't fixed the issue. read more
