DAN AND I HAVE Been to BLACK HILLS CABINS AND MOTEL 4 times! We are going back again this year!…read moreGeorge is one the greatest people we know. A couple of years ago we rode our bike there and Dan got shingles. He needed to go to hospital, George let use his vehicle to take him to the hospital. And the next day to the eye doctor. There are many people out that would do this for you! George is a great host and now a good friend, if you never been to South Dakota this is the place to stay! Black hills cabins and motel are central located to all of the attractions! If you stay once and you ever go back you will be calling George to book a cabin! I give it a 5 star review

He claimed to have allergies, and when we attempted to explain the applicable ADA laws, he stated that he was aware of them but did not care. His response to our concerns was highly unprofessional and demeaning. Disturbingly, he went so far as to publicly speak negatively about my family and even shared one of their addresses online. Fortunately, we were able to find another hotel last minute that welcomed us without issue. This experience was not only unprofessional but also discriminatory towards veterans with disabilities. Update: He charged my family for the stay even though we didn't stay there because we were denied! Completely unacceptable and no way to run a business DO NOT STAY HERE.

Black Hills Rentals is a collection of privately owned cabins of various sizes available for rent…read more Unlike many of the cabin rentals in the area, these cabins are spread out over several acres, not all bunched up together - so they are more quiet and secluded. Further unlike other rentals, they are located well off the main highway so road noise is not an issue. The owners are very friendly and gratious - easy to work with for reservations. The cabins are all relatively new, extremely clean and well equipped for any length stay. If you are looking for a truly tranquil and special experience in the Black Hills, it would be hard to go wrong with what these folks have to offer. Check out the selection of cabins on their website! I stayed at the Renegade cabin (about 4 miles west of Custer) and enjoyed its rustic feel and modern conveniences. It would be great for a couple or a young family of 3-4, but for larger parties I'd suggest some of their other properties. The kitchen is well equipped, a combination VCR/DVD player is available for entertainment, as is a small stereo with AUX and USB inputs for your CDs, iPod, etc. I was a bit concerned that this cabin was not shaded but I was amazed at how the logs insulate the inside. Even when the temps outside got up to 90 during the day, it remained comfortable inside, with ceiling fans to help keep the air moving around. It was the perfect Black Hills escape for me and I highly recommend them!

Most are full sized, year round homes and we have some smaller fully equipped cabins for smaller families. Each home or cabin has it's own lot that range from almost one to six acres! While visiting Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore, I wanted lodging that was different and unique, and this was perfect. I stayed in Cabin 1, so I can't vouch for the other cabins. Cabin 1 had a wonderful old, loved feel, yet was clean and tidy. It had a large main room with kitchenette, table, futon and VCR/DVD with satellite TV. The cozy bedroom had a comfortable bed with plenty of blankets. The bathroom was very small, yet fulfilled my needs. The property had wifi and an enclosed hot tub, although I did not use either. When I was there (Late May) it got cold at night, but the cabin stayed quite warm. The location is perfect, just south of Hill City, very close to both Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore, close to restaurants in Hill City. If you're visiting Crazy Horse or Mt. Rushmore, don't go to a sanitized cookie-cutter chain hotel. These cabins complete the experience of being in the Black Hills.

The owners, Jan and Steve, are good, gracious midwesterners who put a special touch in all the cabins. The cabins come in two varieties: old, with history, simple, smallish but full of charm, or the new cabins which are modern, bigger, and trendy in decor. Personally, if you're into history, love quaintness, then you might like the older, smaller cabins. Some of them are decorated with antiques (antique dressers). One of the larger ones has a real stone fireplace that was built in the last century. As another poster as mentioned, cabin #1 is my favorite. I have stayed there dozens of times over the years, and it is perfect for 1-2 people. The walls, ceiling and flooring are antique knotty-pine. How cute is that? The older cabins (over 100 years old, at least the one with the stone fireplace) and grounds were part of a tin mining company during the last part of the 1800's, that made the town, part of the same operation which built the Alpine Hotel (if memory serves). Chocked full of history and affordably priced, ESPECIALLY if you stay OFF season. Plus you can hike back behind the cabins. Simply awesome!

The entire reservation, check in and check out process was very clear. Leslie was great with communication throughout the stay and all of the instructions were clear in emails leading up to our reservation. I stayed at the Buck Haven Cabin which had one bedroom and a loft with another bed. It was perfect for my parents and I but can sleep up to six. The cabin was fully furnished and had plenty of towels, pillows and extra blankets. The entire cabin was comfortable, well decorated and temperature controlled. There is a key to use although you are provided a code for the key pad which we found easiest to use. There is a porch and deck with a grill, picnic table and a firepit with chairs. Unfortunately we did not utilize these during out two night stay last week. Firewood and smore kits are available for purchase. There is a great binder provided that gives suggestions on restaurants and activities in the area and even provides a little history on the property and family that owns it. The cabin was only about 15 minutes from Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. In either direction you can find breweries, restaurants and other activities such as Bear Country, a candy store and off road vehicle rentals. We also visited Wall Drug and Badlands National Park which was approximately one hour away. The location was central which allowed us to visit a variety of spots. While in a great area, Freedom Ridge Cabins are not on a main road so there is plenty of privacy. They currently have four cabins but the property is well designed and you wouldn't even know you have neighbors unless you catch them outside. It is very quiet. Although we did not need additional items while we were there, the owners are on site and can provide what you need very quickly. I have nothing negative to say about my stay at Freedom Ridge Cabins. I highly recommend staying with them if visiting South Dakota. The price was reasonable and not much more than a stay in a regular, boring hotel room. Thank you for the wonderful experience and thank you for your service!

There's a dishwasher and washer and dryer and well the site gravel roads. It's easy to get around if you slow down just a tiny little bit there's also a very nice garage where you can step store your motorcycles or like making your camping stuff but it's nice to be able to put some of your stuff away and be safe although I doubt anybody would come back in the hills just in case it's nice it's there. There's ample room in the cabins plenty of living room plenty of seating I'm in a wheelchair and I was able to get around fine I think the doors are either 32 or 34 inches but I found if I was careful when I went through it was not a problem I'm an electric wheelchair jazzy HD. Also that the owner and his wife Beth went above and beyond to help me with my handicap Needs. Matt built a small ramp so I can get up into the porch. I would say this would be a perfect place to stay for either three couples or families with kids I would highly recommend that Beth and Robins Roost there about I think 12 miles from mt Rushmore and a little bit further to the Crazy Horse monument. Hill city is about 10 minutes away there was some fun things to do there nice places to eat all in all I would say that the vacation at Robins Roost is the best when you're going to have also they're not ADA but they can't accommodate some requests if you're handicapped and they're nice about it they don't have to put out when you need something special I go every weekend if I didn't live 1500 miles away
