MJ and I had shared 20 years together. I found her when she was about a year old, living on the street. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say that she found me. She kept showing up, coming to me and begging to be petted. Looking back, I realize she was choosing me. And I was lucky enough to be her person for the next 20 years. On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, I knew I was losing MJ. She had stopped drinking water and had become too weak to remain standing. I had spent the day with that terrible feeling that the moment I had dreaded was coming. I felt heartbroken, helpless, and overwhelmed, but I also knew that after 20 years of loving her, I could not allow her to suffer. I had read so many wonderful reviews about Gentle Pet Crossing and the ability to say goodbye peacefully at home, so at approximately 2:00 that afternoon, I reached out. They responded almost immediately and somehow accommodated my request that very same day. Dr. Brittany Dash was confirmed to arrive between 6:00 and 6:30 that evening. From the moment Dr. Dash arrived, there was such a sense of calm and compassion about her. MJ was lying on my bed, incredibly weak and barely responsive. Dr. Dash never rushed anything. She was gentle with MJ, quietly petted her, spoke with kindness, and was equally compassionate toward me. In the place where MJ had always felt safe and loved--her own home, on my bed--she peacefully closed her little eyes. It was devastating, but it was also incredibly gentle. There was no frightening trip to a veterinary office, no unfamiliar surroundings, and no additional stress for MJ. Her last moments were at home, surrounded by love, and Dr. Dash treated her with such tenderness and dignity. Dr. Dash then took MJ with her, and the thoughtfulness from Gentle Pet Crossing did not end when she walked out the door. The following day, they contacted me again to express their condolences and even asked for MJ's veterinarian's information so they could notify them of her passing. I later received a beautiful condolence card from Gentle Pet Crossing and Dr. Dash. When MJ's ashes were ready, they contacted me with compassionate, accommodating options for picking them up and were completely understanding about waiting until I was ready. Every single detail was handled with care. Losing an animal who has shared 20 years of your life leaves a space that is difficult to describe. I will always wish that day never had to come, but I will also always be grateful that when it did, MJ was able to leave this life peacefully, in her home, with dignity and love. Dr. Brittany Dash, thank you for the gentleness you showed my little girl and for the kindness you showed me when I was heartbroken. And thank you to everyone at Gentle Pet Crossing for treating MJ as though she mattered--not simply as another appointment. There truly aren't enough words of praise for the care we received. When we spoke she was screaming yelling aggression "she told me she wasn't out of the woods" a nasty nasty demonic human who should never be tending to sweet innocent animals. Only after my husband called them, they informed us that she was being "processed"! For a week no other info. We called again "ah yes, you can pick her up". We came to pick her up and were faced with yet another disappointment - they just threw away the zip cover. The manager said she was sorry but they could not do anything. Nobody told them that we wanted the cover! Really!? I requested she reviews her security camera which would confirm how many times we repeated our wishes. The cover was gone but they offered a memorabilia instead. How awefully nice of you. The manager was trying in a typical materialistic, despicable way replace something priceless with cheap memorabilia they sell. At this point I don't even know if our fur baby is in the urn. Having seen the type of personnel they have in this place, them just throwing away the previous cover in spite of our explicit request to get it back and having spoken to the manager of this fast-food place with $$ signs in her eyes, I doubt the quality of the services they provide. The bag it all came in was tied with a thin black ribbon with paw prints on it. Open the bag, and there was this beautiful simple wooden urn with my dog's paw print burned into the wood, with Tank's name above the paw. They gave me a certificate, plus a cast of his paw in a round cast, like you do for children's hands. Also a beautiful glass cylinder with some of Tank's fur. Also, a certificate of the private cremation, a bookmark and an another paw print in ink on a card. This whole package was very comforting to me. Not the happiest of news as a dog owner but if your dog is truly a member of your family, news that is needed. Dr Phillips' referrals for more extensive work (cancer, broken teeth, torn joints) have been 100% spot on with referred parties being top of class whom, while I hope to not see anytime soon, I would go to in a heartbeat should similar conditions arise.
