We were supposed to have a private lunch under an olive tree, but the weather didn't cooperate. That sounded lovely, but the back-up may have been even lovelier. They set up lunch for us in the wine cellar. It was such a beautiful space, the walls were lined with oak barrels and there was some cool art at the far side. The table was set so perfectly with a couple of bottles of wine, a charcuterie board full of different cheeses and meats, and a very tasty fruit salad. They thought of everything, even having a heater under the table. We had the entire cellar to ourselves, just the three of us. After lunch, we did a tasting and tour of the winery with a group. The day couldn't have been more perfect and I had an amazing experience here!

As the nights are starting to get cooler after the sunset (7:30), they had located many heating lamps and positioned cozy blankets on chairs just in case. It was quite pleasant. Food-wise you can order a tasting menu if several courses with optional wine pairings or do what we did and select from the ala-carte menu. We've learned with the big portion sizes here in Portugal to cut back a bit so we ordered two starters (burratta with tomatoes and the scarlet shrimp with rice). The burratta was a standout with creamy sweet cheese nestled in a tomato confit. The shrimp was interesting-it was almost like a mini lobster and the server removed the head at the table for me. We decided to share a main course-the veal tenderloin which was good but not nearly as tender as one might expect. In between there were little small bites from the chef and we ended with a luscious chocolate dessert. The white glove service was a swarm of activity instantly refilling glasses, clearing plates and changing silverware-it was a little much for me as our table was right at the crossroads of the activity. Wine list is huge as you'd expect with everything from wines by the glass for €10-17 to bottles in the hundreds and even thousands of euros. I saw one that was €6 thousand on the list. She started this restaurant adventure with her sister known to be a talented cook. Her husband, the wine maker of Aneto had purchased with her a winery that required a lot of attention and love. So, the idea was to create an Artisanal and innovative restaurant that would be supporting and enhancing their wine business. Well, they are now number ONE and recognized by the regional wine tourism association! Bravo ! They offer a small selection of Tapas and a wine pairing experience with eight original creations. They were also recommended to me by the owner of two great restaurants in Porto (Meia-Nau). The verdict is great! Our Tapas with Mussels and Sardines were great. The Portobello mushroom with tomatoes and a decomposition of ratatouille was divine. The Black Pasta with Mussels was also excellent. And for the wine The Grand Reserve Tinto 2020 was a delightful surprise. A full body wine with a well balanced combination of complexity and lightness.
