Came here as a part of a day tour of the stunningly beautiful Douro Valley, which by the way, in comparison, makes our Napa wine country look like nothing.
The atmosphere is not at all noteworthy. It's clean with great views, but dated and had an institutional feel. However, I loved the food, which wasn't at all fancy, but simple homey food. The pork ribs were grilled in a brick oven with charcoals by an older woman that could be your grandma! I really loved those pork ribs!! They were succulent and perfectly smoky and ever so slightly crispy on the outside. I would return just to get these!
Our table also ordered grilled fish, so this place is vegetarian-friendly. I had a small sampling of the fish, but really preferred the pork ribs.
The portions of everything was extremely generous, and served family-style to our nice group of 9 people. In fact, we were offered more of everything, but I'm assuming this was because we were a part of group that pre-booked the lunch.
Getting to this restaurant might be difficult. It's nestled in the hills of the Douro Valley, and I can tell you that there's no way I'd be able to find it again, but I have no sense of direction. Just know that it's isolated in the hills, so don't expect to find it in the center of a bustling town. On the upside, on the way there, you'll be sure to catch some amazing views! read more
